A day in the life of a lamptimer

No on the HD, why??? No one listens to FM HD.. look at the ratings across the country, do you ever see the HD2 or 3's show up on FM? :-X Let's see which quarter the capital gets approved on the new rig for next year...

AM HD is garbage, it chops the high frequencies off at 5K and useless with 52 watts.

Some Nautel transmitters have built-in Motorola AM Stereo, and that would be an improvement in sound quality, if anyone still has a old 80's vintage AM Stereo tuner!

I'll be visiting Phoenix in a few months, I hope the "Nautty" is fired up by then.

actually no AM transmitter is built now with AM stereo, that's been dead and gone for a long time, over almost two decades. If the new rig is approved for capital next year the engineer will not know until the owners tell him which quarter he can spend the money.

Imagine the fun we can have guessing when Lumberyard 14~Forty goes fulltime next year! Obviously, the grand prize would have to be the retired lamptimer...but Nurse Jeff and I think some more stuff should be thrown in. How 'bout some suggestions from fans of the All Day Goldmine?

Some call me a dreamer (and an out-of-towner), but I'm still holding out hope for streaming audio. Complete with that funky Goldmine way of signing off (until the new rig gets in).

Hey! I have (minimal) ties to the area. One of my best friends in this world lived in Chandler, until she moved to another state...

No worries! Lumberyard 1440 is a hit among many whom have never stepped foot on Arizona desert soil! It is, after all, Radio-Info's most popular, most loved radio station in the world.

YIKES!

Never has so much been written about so little (with apologies to the Old Gringo). Lumberyard 14~Forty is a unique gem in an over saturated, over rimshot market. It's kinda like rich Corinthian leather, or the way your stomach feels after seeing a '76 Gremlin. The Goldmine is on all day at our little Love Shack here in Buckeye, and the Nurse and I feel sorry for those out of towners who can't dig their 14 in a row every hour.

I have set foot on Arizona desert soil - inside my friend's Chandler home. I helped her replace computer equipment with dust inside it. No wonder she moved far north!

I would be so grateful if someone put up an aircheck of the Goldmine. Say, don't you have this website? ;)

Well, I was looking at the specification sheets of Nautel's 25K and 50K AM Analog rigs a few month ago and both have "Built-in AM Stereo". I need to check the 6K model which is most like what KAZG will get.

And btw there are a few Home HD tuners that can also receive Motorola C-QUAM AM stereo (if you can still find them). http://mysite.verizon.net/tekel/amstereo/radios.htm

New transmitter = possibly.
Night-time power = never going to happen, because it's technically not possible at thee canal-side Lumberyard.

YIKES!

No ground system? Too close to Meh-hee-co? Power consumption would cause So S'dale lights to dim? Tell us more, KOOL Lauren!

A little canoe trip both ways up and down the canal for a mile or so with some copper wire will
make that 52 watts work better.

Maybe even a canoe is too tall to go under some of canal bridges, like the ones on
the near west side over by the golf course. Who's got scuba gear?

Guess no song or Radio Khushi escapes the lamptimer. Those Hindi Hits came to a screeching halt when Lumberyard 14~Forty took a carrier dump at 5:30pm on Thursday. And to make it even more special, the dump occurred in the middle of a paying commercial. YIKES!

Most of the ads during Radio Khushi are for local businesses and range from Indian restaurants to Hindu doctors and real estate. Most of the ads are in English, but some, including one for an Indian restaurant, are in Hindi.

Apparently the question has been answered about what the Lumberyard would do with Radio Khushi during the winter months: Dump the signal right in the middle of the show! I thought that, at the very least, Radio Khushi would time shift their show to compensate for the Lumberyard's peculiar habits. Instead, the show ends at 5:30 P.M. on KAZG, but continues on-line until 6:00. Next month will be even worse when we see the return of the dreaded 5:15 monthly sunset time, the earliest all year. I guess Radio Khushi doesn't really matter all that much to the Lumberyard's bottom line after all if they let the Lamptimer cut the show 30 minutes early!

On a side note, what ever happened to the winter use of the PSRA? I haven't noticed it yet the past couple months like we've seen in years past. Perhaps the gang at KAZG is waiting for the approval of the new Nautel Transmitter! ;D

Correction:

Tuned in this morning around 6:10 A.M. and heard nothing on 1440 except for some static from Funny 1440 out of Riverside, CA. Turned the radio back to 1440 around 6:25 A.M. and boom, there was an ad for the KAZG website leading into "Sealed with a Kiss." What's interesting, though, is that it appears to be the full 5000 watts of pow-pow-power coming from the Lumberyard shack out in Scottsdale and not the PSRA of 500 watts or whatever KAZG has used in years past during the winter months. Now monthly sunrise for November is 7:00 A.M. so KAZG has some "splainin' to do!" with this early power up!

Paging the usual suspects: Catfish with a "C", KOOL Lauren, the almighty Doc of Buckeye and Oldiesfan with an "O"! ;)
