a new pirate? 102.9Fm anderson

yea I was hearing that over the weekend also. I haven't seen it since sunday night. i work over in muncie and i didn't hear it over there at all. so it was somewhere in anderson.

That map is of the 1 mv/m contour. Here's the Anderson radio dial from radio-locator.com.
That places the 40 dB contour (fringe) across the middle of Anderson - the translator would have better signal to the East. That doesn't match the listener report of a 10 mile circle with the strongest point being the north side of Anderson.

Who knows? Just a guessing game! The truth is, you can't judge an FM signal strength without an
S meter. Good car radios may only require 2 microvolts for full quieting. And an overmodulated signal
on FM is the loudest and will appear to be the strongest. We may never know the facts because if
these guys have common sense, they have taken it apart.

I'm sure it's just a coincidence that the person who created this topic also owns and operates a website that promotes malicious activity and hacking.

Yep, just a coincidence.

;)

This isn't the 1970s. So, it no longer requires a whiz kid to be a pirate. All it takes is the motovation.
I could stop by an electronics store here in Lafayette and put together a pirate TV station in
no time. It doen't take a brain anymore.
Who wants to be hunted down like an animal? I can think of more fun things to do.

im getting the WGNR Muncie translator that is on 102.9 fm

Why does WGNR have a translator in Muncie? Won't those 50,000 watts on I-69 make it into Deleware and Jay counties anymore?

I doubt that a low powered translator would provide better coverage in Muncie than 97.9 does,
So you could say they don't need this signal. I think you are right, Ten Four. But, this doen't
justify jamming them!

1) The reports of WHERE THIS STATION COULD BE HEARD centered on a site nowhere near the translator site. If it was a translator hijack those reports should have centered on the translator or at least got stronger toward the site.

2) WGNR probably doesn't 'need' a Muncie translator. EMF (K-Love) does. They are the folks that own that Muncie translator. They probably don't 'need' it right now either ... but they want it for the future. When WKMV gets on the air I suspect we will see the Muncie translator move to a location where it will help boost their coverage. Look at the bigger picture.

3) Nothing really justifies jamming a licensed radio station. Even jamming an unlicensed one would be illegal (unless your legal operation jams an illegal operation).

Very close...look for WKMV to be far enough from Muncie (to keep it out of the population center) that interference to channel 6 is a non-issue and the 102.9 translator will then provide a stronger signal in Muncie. WGNR is being broadcast with permission to hold the license until WKMV is built...a date that I don't have any estimate on.

Absolutely! What the pirates are doing is just plain wrong. I just wondered why they had a translator, and the question has been answered. Didn't realize the ownership of the translator. Thanks!

This anti-Christian bigot gets our attention as broadcasters simply because of his radio piracy. I don't know how many people in the Anderson area actually listen to WGNR and are upset about it.

Would the same non-action happen in Indianapolis if a radio pirate went on the frequency of one of the more popular Indy FM stations? Would anyone notice? Would anyone care?...among the listeners, that is?

WKMV's coverage is directional based on a tower north of Springport and covers most of Muncie with a 60dB signal. (Since Muncie is the named city of license for WKMV they MUST cover that city.

The current CP for WKMV expires in about three weeks on 02/07/2008. They need to get a move on!
Here is the most recent application.

As an earlier post said, I will bet the pirate is reading this, and getting a kick out of how much attention he's getting, regardless of how negative it is. Do any of us here actually support his actions,,,, No, It wouldnt appear so... Now if he was on a clean frequency, and actually used a viable format that may be used to serve the community I wouldnt be so mad about it. :p

what gets me is i havent heard it since sun. night so the pirate must be a weekend pirate. we'll see if he shows up this weekend

Maybe if were lucky his transmitter got too hot and shut down. I really hope he doesnt come back, and if he does, I hope he gets caught. If I put a station that powerful on the air with a Dance format I would be caught in 10 minutes, and I wouldnt be offensive or be blocking out a licensed frequency. It seems that the pirates that really do cause problems are the ones that dont get caught. Lets not give this guy any more free publicity, thats just what he wants, he doesnt want people to actually enjoy his station, he is just purposly jamming the christian format to offend people.

yea, i have noticed that. pirates that actually do something usefull get caught. the ones that are just a**hats ,jamming ect. seem to never get caught. such a shame
