Adult Standards

I certainly would like to start another station. The big problem is finding some station that is run a company where the format will give them their best oppurtunity to make money. They have to be either an underperforming am or a rim shot fm.What was said about sales and how most companies look at them has some truth. A lot of operations just want to do the tried and easy and be the 4th or 5th in a format .I listened to Red 104 on line when they were around and sure liked the music mix.I would ask the thoughts of others on this board, what station would the standards format most benefit?

Any of the stations first broadcasting is "LMAing". FM..wise KNOR.KSOUL,casa la raza or what ever it is ,KRNB,The stations in Greenville.

Do the Greenville stations put a signal in D/FW? Where are they on the dial.

Hey Jack! I owe you an email.

I don't think there's much to be had out of Greenville nowadays. KIKT-93.5 was bought by Susquehanna years back so they could downgrade it and re-aim 93.3 Zone/Merge/Bone towards Dallas. They sold it not long ago to station manager Frank Banda. It's not even a rimshot.

103.3 (former KEMM-Commerce) was moved into DFW, sorta, to create KESN.

KGVL-1400 is the only other Greenville station I can think of, but I don't think I've ever picked them up in DFW. They have to pattern around KBEC-1390, and it makes both station unlistenable in the metro area.

106.9-Campbell was bought up by First, then sold to LKCM, to make "the Ranch" trio of station, I think.

First Broadcasting has done a thorough job of grabbing up every possible DFW rimshot, doing upgrades, and putting them back on the market. The only one I can think of that's still in limbo out there is KBOC in Bridgeport, but I think there's been some recent activity over there (saw some entries here on the board, but never got time to read them.)

If I was shopping for a station right now, I'd save up, and walk into the ABC studios the day Citadel takes over (supposedly in December) and lay down $16 mil cash for The Twister's frequency. They might just grab it.

Hi Mike, Let's stay in touch. Email me off the board ok.Why buy ,how about just a flip? I mean as badly as "The Twister" had done . But I heard they were going to go oldies when the new people come in and you won't believe who I heard was going to be the P.D.

KGVL has a nondirectional signal, like virtually all AM graveyarders. Actually puts in a fairly listenable daytime signal into Dallas And Collin counties, but not enough that it would grab a salable number of listeners. It is of course buried in co-channel interference at night.

KBEC has nulls towards Dallas, but is stronger in Tarrant county.

What's with the coy comment? If you know who the P.D. is, why not just say so? Or are you just engaging in gossip?

Of course I'm just engaging in gossip isn't that what radio really runs on, gossip and equal parts insecurity, and mistrust. Have any of you ever heard the TM productions thing from the early 70's "Tomorrow Radio" ? And that most dreaded of questions, "Seen any new people in the building?"

Jack Bishop, I think you should start a new standards station in DFW. Undoubtedly, you have a following!
What evidence do you have to substantiate your claim?

C'mon now, lighten up... Do you have some kind of proof that JB doesn't have a following?

I agree lighten up on JB. Since Jack posed the question in a certain way,I'm going to venture he meant Brinkman.

I didn't make the original claim so the burden of proof is not on me.

Speculate and gossip all you want, but state your fact or opinion.

Seems a little too cute. So who did you hear was the new P.D.? I'm not sure what your paranoid rant was all about. Maybe you feel radio is run on gossip and mistrust, but this is a message board, not a radio station.

Okay, then why wouldn't he just say so and stand behind his opinion?

Just like you and I, it's his progative, and perhaps he doesn't want to interfere with Chuck's (supposed) negotiations.

Bishop here checking in. Hi,pro4AA. I don't have an opinion because that would mean I would have to care who someone hired and only person who I care about getting hire right now is me. After 40 years in this nonsense of radio sometimes the only interesting stuff you hear is the gossip. The thing I have come to love about this board is that I have gotten back in touch with two I worked with in the past and one of them from 35 years ago!

Hey there Bishop you all rascal ! It was good getting back in touch with you too!
Funny how two guys can know each other ,live in the same area and not talk for 10 years.
