A cathartic moment on the air with Brady announcing it. He knew that this was coming, they said it was announced to them on Friday. He was barely holding back the tears. I know it's business, but it I sympathize with him.
The hint was the retirement of the WCBS News Director, who mentioned the new union deal that combined the staffs. Once that was done, this became easier to accomplish.
Alt is failing in quite a few markets. It neither gets a significant audience nor does it perform well in billings. Same happened with country.NYC deserves Alternative rock as it does Country. We have too many of the same formats in this city.
The format was "pioneered" in 1948 at Radio Reloj in Cuba. Gordon McLendon went for a pre-Castro holiday in Cuba in the later 50's and heard it. By 1959, he was building "Extra News over Los Angeles" on 690 XETRA from Tijuana.I agree, and have been saying this on multiple threads. All-news has historically been stronger in NYC, being that this is where the format was pioneered, but I doubt it's long-term viability amongst younger listeners.
The union agreement was completed last week. When did that occur? Just curious.
Or it could be "1010 WINS on 92.3."
So do I.A cathartic moment on the air with Brady announcing it. He knew that this was coming, they said it was announced to them on Friday. He was barely holding back the tears. I know it's business, but it I sympathize with him.
In this case, they're likely not fired. So it's probably basically "You can say goodbye as long as you don't do anything wrong, and if you do you'll get fired"Credit to them for allowing hosts to say bye
He tracks a few other Alt stations still if I remember correctly. So either they'll shuffle him to one of the other stations, or have him track still based in NYC. Bru, Audacy's CHR afternoon host moved to LA to do afternoons on 97.1 AMP/NOW, and has stayed there voicetracking out since Audacy moved KNX to 97.1Rarely have I heard a host get that choked up, but it makes total sense. Feel horrible for him, but I hope he has something else lined up. Going to a station in Detroit I think?
Of course, as WINS listeners move to FM, that will further reduce the attraction of the AM band. Look for additional losses by WCBS (AM) and the band as a whole. They'll almost certainly emphasize the 92.3 dial position with the "1010" AM references gradually de-emphasized and eventually eliminated (with maybe an occasional "you can also hear us at 1010 on your AM dial" reference).
"WINS Newsradio 92.3"Or "1010 And 92.3" WINS ".
Or "1010 And 92.3" WINS ".
The failure of country, though, was pretty much a New York market anomaly. The format is doing very well elsewhere in both audience and billing, but NY was just too tough a nut to crack, especially in attracting advertising at competitive rates.Alt is failing in quite a few markets. It neither gets a significant audience nor does it perform well in billings. Same happened with country.
Nope. WCBS calls itself "Newsradio 880.""WINS Newsradio 92.3"
"WINS Newsradio 92.3"
KYW makes no mention of 1060 anymore... just "KYW Newsradio" while occasionally adding 103.9 FM
Maybe just WINS News Radio.
Hint: it is about sales. It is tough to sell country in markets like NYC due to the huge diversity of the population and the total lack of lifestyle compatibility.there are 3 or 4 urban stations with dismal ratings, one can take the format and do it right, but is it taboo to flip an urban format for fear of protests...notice a country and rock station bit the dust, the country with better ratings then the urbans.....
