And The Stiffs Just Keep On Comin'

Well, another Saturday night after a day of tearing down drywall just in time to get home and watch the Kentucky Derby. What a horserace! In honor of Mine That Bird, a 50-1 longshot that won the Derby by at least six lengths, tonight's entry features a tri-fecta of not-so-stiff-songs that pay tribute to a great horse.

These Arms of Mine - Otis Redding / You Can't Do That - Beatles / White Bird - It's A Beautiful Day

Treehouse in the Sky - Gus

My favorite deep stiff.

On the Soul Stiff side of things I ran across "Atlantic Unearthed: Soul Brothers" and it has R.B. Greaves doing "Whiter Shade Of Pale" (Atco 1970). That has to fit in here.

Mine That Bird - a mudder

So with The Preakness coming up next, lets go with Muddy Waters, "Got My Mojo Workin'"

Eric Clapton's "Let It Rain"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bk-twMIs85o&feature=related

And The Cowsills - The Rain, The Park and Other Things

http://www.last.fm/music/The+Cowsills/_/The+Rain,+The+Park+and+Other+Things

Different spelling but one of my favorite concert moments was back in '82 when The Who performed Love Reign O'er Me at Rich Stadium and it started raining.

That's a great tune any way you spell it.

The label said "Hot Rod Lincoln", by Charlie Ryan, but when you played the record it was "Swinging On A Star", by Big Dee Irwin with Dee Dee Sharp.

The label on the flip side said, "Swinging On A Star", by Big Dee Irwin, but it was "Hot Rod Lincoln", by Charlie Ryan.

If I am not mistaken it is a pretty rare collectible.

Must have been quiet at the bowling alley last night. Radnowski hasn't injected his wit & off the wall (sorry, bad attempt at a painting pun there) commentary, to keep this thread alive!! Well, it's Saturday...maybe a few cold ones will instill the creative genius to stimulate this on-going concern. Or not...then it's just another digital record of time gone by. ;D

My mom gave me that 45 of hers when I was a kid. I'll have to see if I can still track it down.

I've got a true stiff for you. The follow-up to Cher's first #1 song, which was "Gypsies, Tramps, and Thieves". That song was "Don't Hide Your Love", which stalled at #46.

How much of a stiff was it? YouTube ain't got an original.

Just in case our resident painter is overcome by fumes and/or overdid the Pabst during a pre-Mother's Day family gathering.

And still I manage to sit upright and view the keyboard and screen. At Rox's suggestion, here are two entirely different songs of the same name for and about mothers. First, B.J. Thomas' "Mama" and second, Genesis' song of the same name. Happy Mother's Day!

And for those who have gone seriously astray, Kenny Rogers and The First Edition - Momma's Waiting
Mama Didn't Lie - Jan Bradley
Mama Told Me Not To Come - Three Dog Night (not really a stiff though - how many times did we hear that per hour?)

Roaches - The Court Jesters
Flip it over and you had "The Trial (of my love)" - The Court Jesters

Perhaps stiffer is her pre-Cher release of "Ringo I Love You" using the name Bonnie Jo Tyler. Must be 1964 or so.
I do remember hearing it played in Chicago back in the day. But only a few times.
