And The Winner In Dothan Is ........

hey stewie... the chin is high... I like working with the guys at Star... JB is a great guy. I do hope we get something going... you have to take any increase as a positive direction. I think we could grow Star into a winner... not #1 but a player in the market. One that could generate money for the cluster. I just hope we can keep moving forward and keep the faith... station numbers arn't built in a book... three to five yes. If we go thru the next three books and there is no improvement I'd say make some changes... My hopes are they will keep the music fresh, promote, and generate some programing on the station that we could turn into cash. The ball is really in their court, but I will help in any way I can.... again I'll take any increase as a positive sign.

I do believe a strong program manager should be in place to get all the stations on track.. now keep in mind I'm not in house so I don't really know what is on track in the building. They very well could be working on a game plan for the cluster. I hope they are. Never has there been a group of stations more ready for the picking. The Magic cluster is a new car waiting for a driver.... Nobody has asked me but .. if I were in charge I'd get a veteran sales manager and give him the rope to hire a seasoned sales staff (again I don't know what's happening in house I'm just saying what I'd do if I was walking in the door as "the man") and get a Program manager to reset each station. Start with the cash cow which should be WTVY (in a perfect world) and go from there. I'd think you'd have to fund promotions and promote for about two years before you'd really reap the fruit of a full turn around.

There are some really good people working at the stations and I'd like to add that they have treated me with much respect and I'm glad to be a part of the cluster.

BINGO!

Jerry has got to get the TVY wagon to the top of the hill and I don't think it can
be done with the two fat boys (rick & bubba) riding the wagon.
They are good for a 5 share. TVY needs a good local morning show that is good
for at least a 10 share or better to jump start the rest of the day on TVY.

Great post guys! Think you have hit the nail straight on the head. WTVY was a legendary radio station and how a group could allow the cash cow to fall into such a state! I know they talked to a number of people some months ago that could turn that cluster around and it fell on deaf ears. Do not think they want to hear it will cost money to get the job done it will take time. These stations did not get into the shape they are in over night and it will not be an over night fix! Time will tell if they are players or just playing.

That Lindholm guy has about as much programming and marketing savy as a trained monkey and he appears to be the guy in charge.

Mr. Lindholm has college degrees, including an MBA, from two of the most prestegious universities in the country. In addition, he has run businesses, including a large marketing firm. He also grew up in radio coming from a family that owned stations. I'm not saying that makes him a great leader. I am saying most of us in radio, except for maybe Nuffsaid, would kill for those credentials. Nuffsaid, since you called Mr. Lindholm a monkey, you obviously are an exception. Would you mind posting your credentials?

The stations have the ability to win but have been so mismanagerd there has been a total loss of respect from the listeners and from what I hear the bulk of any staff they have left.

Moonshine, your sources may be better than mine but my sources are usually money and they are saying the morale and excitement on the eighth floor is higher than it's been in a long time and that we'd all be surprised at the people (including former employees) who are reaching out and now want to come to work or come back to work for the cluster. I trust my sources but I'm sure you trust yours.

If only things were as simple on the inside as they appear to be from outside.

Economy, budgets, Salaries, Available talent, politics, bureaucracy and so many other things are involved
in radio. It is never as simple from the inside as it is from the outside.

Continued success and employment to all my radio friends and counterparts in Dothan. Everyone
I know works their butts off and deserve the best.

To what do your sources attribute this new morale and excitement? You are correct that we'd all be surprised. Except for us that are flocking to the gates of the Magic Kingdom. There may be stock options in it for me if I come back on board.

Apparently at least some of it is due to the departure of KVD.

I assume that Jeff Lindholm is Fred's son; Fred and McCoy go back a long way and once were partners. Exactly where did Jeff come from and what is his background?

I saw a guy eating burritos with a BIG SOMBRERO selling those today when I left Guadalupe, AZ when I made a "LATE NIGHT" service call like someone used to do back in the day when I went by another airname and played little sound effects that Stewy used to love me playing everyday around 5:25 PM up until 3 years ago! And I stayed at the now defuncted CANNON MOTEL for 17 minutes at a time! I shall remain nameless.
