Andelman Bros. Phantom Gourmet weekly on WTKK

Didn't Eddie own the parking lot that was next to Foxboro Stadium and the old Foxboro raceway? later sold it

yep...

by the way, it was alluded to earlier but it was Mike Andelman who hosted a short-lived Saturday afternoon show on WEEI ca '94-95 and it's one of the worst shows in that station's history.

Has anyone ever heard the Phantom review Kowloon, the chief sponsor when they were on WBZ?

Eddis has been a shill for the Kowloon for years going back to the old Sports Huddle days on WEEI. He always pitches ads for them

Yeah and he used to own the trailer park behind the old stadium. I know people who really got shafted by Andelman when he sold it to Kraft.

before that, there were ads for China Sails... "it's the Wong time and the Wight place!"... I wonder if it's the same family who own Kowloon

incidentally, in an off-topic, kind of odd aside, Eddie and Red Auerbach both have lo-mein dishes named after them. Both dishes have shrimp... Eddie and Red (R.I.P.) are Jewish and Jewish dietary laws forbid the consumption of shellfish.

I DO miss the old Sports Huddle, as I've said before. I wish I had a tape of that "Yawkey Jeans" fake ad they ran.

Not sure if it's still on the menu but the Coolidge Corner Clubhouse has/had a sandwich called the Eddie
Andelman ("Eddie, we bet even you cannot finish this one"). I prefer the Philly Fanatic (cheesesteak sub;
hey, Morgan White Jr trivia on Monday nights! I can only go when there's a Monday holiday as I work
nights). And somewhere (forget where) there's a place with a sandwich named after Howie Carr (has
been mentioned on his show) but yeah, make your "turkey and baloney" jokes here...

The funniest real ad was the "it happens at Lappens" with Mark doing the accent and Eddie cracking up trying to read copy.
Too bad Eddie is so full of himself and is doing the same routine. It just isnt funny now.

Eddie and Mike concotted the "Sports Rap" concept and then convinced Bev Tilden to add a weekend show for younger 12-24 sports fans. Mike was already working at 'EEI(in promo and sales) for a couple years after graduating from Union so it's not like he was totally green walking into the radio business.

The Big, Fat O took over programming from Tilden sometime in '95 and the Andelmans knew the "Sports Rap" had its days numbered. Then "stripper in the studio" was the last nail in the coffin...

It was no secret Andelman and Ordway didnt get along, it was so bad they couldnt even do the crossover together. I think most of WEEI probably hated Andelman for his contract and those trips to Las Vegas to "cover" boxing matches.

Maybe it was Eddie's general "tude" more so than his contract.
When Eddie was at the Zone I read an article about how good he was for the station and raking in a lot of buck$ for them and then what happens within a year?
He is way too much of a blowhard,I don't know who is worse,Severin with his alleged sexual prowess or Andelman and his alleged gambling prowess!

They should try a show together where Eddie can bet on the number of time Jay gets shot down by Japanese teen-agers at a club. ::)

I do miss the boxing coverage... no current show on the station discusses it. At least WWZN has a time leased boxing show....

Along with Jimmy McCarthy (is that the right name, The Old Sports Huddle Show).

...along with Mark Witkin and a few other guys who were all part of a small investor group that originally bought the Bay State Harness Raceway back in mid-70's. Eddie got a major chunk from the $16 mil sale to Kraft, but the other guys like Mark and Jim did more than ok too.

Radio guys always hated him but sales folks admired him for all his business savvy.
He's a millionaire many times over and could've bought WEEI for peanuts when the Sox and Pats were still living in loserville in the 90's. He can easily buy the Zone1510 but he knows that you could never make any money back from that p.o.s. signal.

I think Eddie's day in the sun, as far as radio goes, is long over. The Zone's poor signal didn't help, but Eddie isn't the draw he used to be (if he ever was). I remember hearing, a couple of years ago, that he wanted to do a TV show on Ch. 56 where he would talk about the topics other than sports. His bright idea was to have Steve Sweeney on the show 'to bring in the younger demo'. True, they would be younger than Eddie's crowd, but talk about not getting it.

How long before someone launches an investigation into payola and the Phantom?

Steve Sweeney? Anytime I hear him, the station changes as quickly as my fingers can reach the tuner... same with the supremely un-funny Lenny CLAAAAHK.

I completely agree with SonicAl's assessment of those two comics especially on radio. Does not work.

Question about brokering shows? Who else does this beside "Whitley"?

Tony Vee is a comic that works on radio. Did you hear him fill-in for Loren and Wally? Bring him back full time (with a better partner) I say!
