Another format change in Pensacola?

Yep it appears another station will soon be switching formats in Pensacola. WYCL (My 107.3) will be no more as of tomorrow. I was listening to the station this morning and they are currently simulcasting WMXC (Lite Mix 99.9) out of Mobile, and Chris and Mary were on. Chris said "For those of you listening on My 107.3 expecting to hear John Tesh this morning, he is no longer on the station. In fact as of tomorrow there will be no more My 107.3 but today you can enjoy us."

I've looked online and haven't found out anything else about this? Anyone want to take a guess on what the new format could be? It looks like Pensacola has every format covered, so I'm wondering could it be possible "Cool 107" could be making a comeback? I guess we will find out tomorrow.

FWIW, in Boston CC is launching a new news-talker, yanking some of their Premiere talent from longtime affiliates--yeah, like Rush--to bring it in-house. Well, "yanking" is probably not quite accurate--presumably not renewing contracts with WRKO and shifting them to their own signal.

They'd be smart to do the same with 107.3, and establish it as the FM news-talk gun for the combined Mobile-Pcola market, but I guess we'll find out fairly soon.

Or Punk Country. Korean CHR. Vanilla Motown.

Well the hint is there. Why would they be advertising to switch to 99.9 if the format's were not close? I'm guessing classic rock as the signal can be heard in FWB.

Update at 3:30pm:

As of this afternoon WYCL is no longer simulcasting WMXC but have gone back to their regular programming. Mark Holiday is on the air now. However, they are running a promo saying something like "My 107.3 is going away forever at 8am on Friday. However listeners of My 107.3 can find their favorite music on Lite Mix 99.9."

So they are encouraging people to switch to 99.9? Rumor has it 107.3 will become a talk station, which makes sense. If they were going to become another music format wouldn't they want to try and encourage people to listen to the new format and not switch to a sister station?

I guess we will see tomorrow at 8am.

To compete with I100? Wow..! Interesting thought.
No more John Tesh or Disco Stu..

That's what I'll miss about MY.

Well, Rob, this I know fur sure...it's ALL that redneck riviera guys (Geraldo's brother you know) fault for ruining
that given frequency back in the 1995's +/- with that dot named thing/fiasco. It never was ever right again and probably the stobeys don't work anyway. It has no chance whatever it does and they should move
the signal closer to navarre and going country is the only way. There are way to many talk and not
sure but probably a few more countries could work. The have a Highway and an I so they could do
an Alley, Cul-de-Sac or Roundabout, but then it would sound like weed killers. Just my four cents.
Wooten will probably turn the power down anyway. I am not sleeping until 8:01 am and this is known.

You can still hear John Tesh on coast 933. 1057 the groove in ATL is rhythmic ac station. If they are going in that direction(and I really hope they are) they won't effect I100 OR WABB that much. But they might Magic 106 which has been really strong in that market.

That's it?

104.1 Jack FM
I-100
Highway 98 Country
107.3 The Groove
and somewhere in there they put K-Love on 95.7

That's all they have to offer us?

Hey, has anyone else in Northwest Florida noticed that WUWF HD-2 has dropped the Folk Alley crap and is now carrying AAA Xponential Radio all day now? Isn't that cool, the only HD channel that has a solid signal over Pensacola is a non-commercial AAA!

Hey I'm just glad it's not another country station or heaven forbid Rush radio like has been speculated. I've been listening continuously while I work. So it's working on me. :)

Hey RNR ~ they are hiring...wanna go back to the good ole days? If I can play Boogie Wonderland once or twice a week, I am there!

It is warmer. I am officially over Nashville cold weather. How you do it, I dunno. Mucho respecto.

Spring break awaits...I am buff....uh...I mean bloated. Hell. :(

Yep, there's a blizzard outside the window right now. Can't see across the parking lot!

But I'm afraid my familiarity with Rhythmic AC stops with EWF, too. Would I have to play Fergie songs? LOL!

I guess they're shooting at bringing WRRX down to earth--looks like they may be pushing XBM for #1 in 25-54, though it's hard to imagine Rhythmic AC has the kind of power ratio (conversion of ratings to cash) that, say, an all-news (my real first choice for 107.3) or news-talk (easier/cheaper than all-news) would have.

But if I were a betting man, I'd betcha $10 that by the time COA's contract with Rush runs out (Clear Channel owns his Mobile affiliate, 710/WNTM), CC could be looking at this frequency again. Splitting an 8 share in Pcola playing Beyonce tunes doesn't sound like a goldmine to this old campaigner.

Ah, Spring Break in Pensacola. Sounds great. But you know, Tibbs, the scenery in March over at PCB tends to be even better...

Look, if Mix 103 can last over a decade as terrible as it is. i think clear channel can give this time to work. Pensacola is a party town a station like this if programmed smartly can thrive in this market.
