I guess KABC picked up Art Bell's new show M-F 10PM to 1AM. Didn't see it posted here....I heard about it on Twitter!
That said, Bell's streaming service, Dark Matter says the show streams from 9 to 12 Pacific (12 to 3 Eastern) yet last night I checked the stream between midnight and 1 am EST and found another program.
I can't imagine why he wouldn't want affiliates to stream the show. It's free on his website and TuneIn. It would seem the more streams the more listeners he'd get. Savage makes a big deal about his streaming numbers which I believe come mostly, if not entirely, from affiliate's streams.
That's because Art is able to account for listeners directly to his stream through simple analytics, which is potentially good for future ad sales opportunities. Allowing radio stations to also stream his show dilutes the listening data away from his stream.
A good ranking on Talk Stream Live gets attention -- ask Michael Savage who makes much of his #1 position there. I'm sure advertisers notice. Talk Stream Live doesn't do their own streaming but instead shunts listeners to other streams. Art Bell's listing takes listeners to his site, other listings are linked to terrestrial radio affiliates. What's the difference? A listener is a listener. That's because Art is able to account for listeners directly to his stream through simple analytics, which is potentially good for future ad sales opportunities.
So why is that a problem? The affiliate streams are free, Art's live stream is free. A listener is a listener.Allowing radio stations to also stream his show dilutes the listening data away from his stream.

It's not sold the same as OTA radio, because some ad agencies will only accept listening numbers/analytic data and unique visitors to your website. This is especially true for banner or other site-related advertising. If you can drive numbers specifically to your site, you stand a much better chance of using that data as an opportunity to sell based on visits or TSL on your site. Obtaining analytic data from other radio station sites mean you may not be able to get the listening or unique visitor data because they control it. Now when Nielsen increases PPM for streams and assuming Art wants to pay for inclusion, then it would matter less. That being said, you still could lose out on advertising tied directly with the Art Bell web page. I sure wouldn't want to go PPM only because it leaves too much potential revenue on the table.
So why is that a problem? The affiliate streams are free, Art's live stream is free. A listener is a listener.
We get far too much off-topic posting from certain people on this board, and it muddles the discussion.
Posting just for the sake of posting isn't really great netiquette.
KM qualifies himself as arbiter of this board by referring to himself as a "Programming Consultant" in market number 2. Well, OK, maybe he is deserving of a little respect and one should overlook his snarky, holier-than-thou comments and defer to his vast knowledge and experience in radio. So, I clicked on his link and checked out his site (mostly filled with 404 errors on the various links) and discovered that he has created an 80s format that is airing on 94.5 KRKE, Albuquerque, NM. Only problem, there IS NO 94.5 KRKE, Albuquerque. http://radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/locate?select=city&city=Albuquerque&state=NM .
