Awkward Silence

Please...Somebody say something!!! This silence is getting awkward. How bout them Vols? How bout that Crossman? Who's fighting Thursday night? SOMETHING!!! It's like we need a music bed in here. Somebody, crank up the Joe Satriani !!!

Oh Joe Satriani! I was at a race in New Hampshire working for MRN two years ago where he performed. Best show I never saw. Speaking of... Shooter Jennings at Talladega in 2 weeks! The Oakland A's are going to the playoffs if they can hang on. How 'bout that Huston Street? *more awkward silence*

Hey, Turd. Lay off for a little while. I'm going through some medical problems right now, and I may have to have surgery later on. My mind is on that right now...if I have to have surgery and all goes well, I'll be ready to take your barbs. Pray for me that all goes well.

Hey crossman...I wasn't giving you a barb that time around. The last time I posted on this board, you seemed to be the topic of much of the banter. I was looking for a conversation starter. Hope you pull through.

hey turd. stop giving crossman such a hard time. he's having personal issues and they seemed to have shut up everyone on this message board. it's all your fault crossman.

Geek, just because I'm having personal issues doesn't mean people can't talk about other things. Apparently there's not that much to talk about. I'm just surprised nobody has mentioned the new numbers. I guess that after the big three there really isn't that much to talk about.

Man, geek you're a real a jerk. I would say something else but god forbid this discussion get moved to another section again! Funny you mention the new numbers crossman. I'm always one of the first to start talking about them but you're right, nothing to talk about this update. I can't get the numbers up right now because Billboard has totally ruined R&R and now the ratings part of the site won't even come up! (J. cusses to himself A LOT!)... But if I remember correctly, WGOC moved back ahead of KROCK into a virtual tie for 4th with Electric, which I believe I predicted after the last book. Other than that, not a darn thing worth talking about.

If you can't pull up R&R, then allaccess.com is a pretty good place to get the numbers, too. With them, you can also access the separate station's websites to see if anything has changed in the way of personnel, promotions, etc.

Thanks for the heads up crossman. I agree AllAccess is also a good site. I just like to {insert female dog name here} about how Billboard has {insert a word that rhymes with ducked here} up Radio and Records! Let's see if that gets moved to another page. Ooooooh!

J-Street --- Don't listen to Crossman --- until AFTER the surgery!!

;D ;D ;D ;D

Gasket, I wasn't trying to make this into a pity party. I was just trying to state facts...which poses the question...why do you need a gasket? Is it just a small flatulence problem, or do you have Appco knocking at your door for gas rights? You want to egg it on, so come on.

Spindoctor...thanks for the support. Here we are, radio veterans, trying to make some intelligent conversation and, in my case, trying to explain that I have a problem which I hope isn't life threatening, and then you get so-called "radio people" like Ass Gasket who try to make a joke out of everything. I will try to keep all those who know me and respect me up with what's going on with me medically. And, as for Ass Gasket, make your posts legitimate ones about radio and about yourself...y'know, things that people would really be interested in reading. This ain't the Comedy Store and the stuff you're posting ain't comedy.

Now, if someone would like to talk about Tri-Cities radio, I'd love to read your posts. I'm not up there anymore, but I'm still interested in the goings on. And if you would like to know about radio down here in Southeastern North Carolina, I'd be glad to talk to you about that.

And by the way --- HVB has been GOOD for me!!!

Too bad you can't work here Spin Doctor --- they want talent!!!

Well, I had my first deleted post on Radio-Info.
If the moderator felt it was too much I guess it was.
It was my half-handed way of trying to bring things back
to a topic that wasn't in attack form. Didn't think there was
anything wrong with that. Maybe I should think before I type, right?

Crossman, take this thing day-by-day. Ass Gasket, my discussing your
days of janitorial service for certain nameless companies will stop.
However, if you think me having talent is correct, you are probably trying to put an elevator in an outhouse...it just don't work.

This is radio and most station ownership is not looking for talent anymore.
The days of being a commodity in the business are few and far between. Let's
face it, if the choice was between a veteran who can actually interact with his or her audience - at a good paycheck... OR a liner reading, just out of high school, couldn't ad lib if Robin Williams was in the headset giving you the lines, wet behind the ears, pay the kid just above minimum because he is still living with Mommy & Daddy rookie... who do we think would get the job. ESPECIALLY IN THE TRI-CITIES! IT'S THE KID!

Have a nice day... I'm off to anger management class... tonight it's RED Kool Aid, ooooooh!

ps Moderator, if I Oh-ffended, I apologize, it shant happen again.

I guess I just had my first deleted post on this thread. I was pretty strong. Ass Gasket...if you have a problem with me, keep it with me. Don't involve my wife in it. She's a wonderful woman and doesn't need to have any backhanded comments aimed at her. She's done nothing to you and, if I have in the past, I'd like to know what it was that has you trying to climb my frame.

SpinDoctor, let me clear up something for you concerning your comment about younger people vs. veterans and "especially" in the TriCities. You could be right in some cases, I know a lot of young people who work over at Niniger, many who fit your definition. But as for where I work, there's 5 stations and out of all of them combined, I'm the only person I can think of they let on the air who's under 30, and I'm not even on air very much at all. It's veterans where I work, maybe it's not where you do. Furthermore, I believe format should have a bearing on the age of the announcers. If the station is a classic format, you have older listeners and want the veterans on air. If it's a CHR of HAC station, younger people will probably work best, but they still need to be talented and I won't get into my opinion on that or we may agree. "Format" doesn't just mean the type of music you're playing. I wasn't offended by your statement and didn't mean to sound defensive, but you shouldn't describe an entire market in one big swooping assesment. You sounded a wee bit disgruntled.

I'm curious what brought on that statement though. People give me a hard time in here because I'm one of those "younger people," but I haven't been posting in this topic much, so I don't believe your post had anything to do with yours truly. I'm guessing you're referring to assgasket? What makes you think he's one of those "younger people?"

Where's SlopJockey? It's time for a classic crossman v. assgasket matchup.

J,
I was talking about radio in general, and believe it or not I am not gruntled or disgruntled.
I just come off a bit terse sometimes. I just get so tired of the big boys making decisions solely based on the bank account and forget there are listeners out there.
If it is different on your station then count yourself VERY fortunate. But no, it was not directed at you or The King of A**. I assure you.

We all need to be nice on these boards. Simple, be nice.
"yeah yeah, now give me my f**kin' change" - George Carlin circa 1984

Gruntled isn't a word! Yeah, the only reason I brought that up is because you made me think there for a minute, I couldn't spell. Which would be very possible! Anyway, that being said, you're mostly right. People give each other a lot of (word rhyming with hit) on these boards; exactly why I care AT ALL if I'm spelling something wrong or not, don't want to leave that door open. Although I didn't totally agree with your example of the big boys making decisions on money, I agree with the statement in whole 100%. I will admit I was so worked up thinking about the simple AGE of these people who are being hired, I missed the point you were making about them working for less, which is a great point. Life's not fair though, business isn't fair, radio isn't fair. We chose this job so we live with it. People are rarely paid fairly based on their talents, but there's so many factors it's hardly worth getting into. All I know is there are "veterans" out there not worth a (hit) who are getting paid great, young people out there who get hired at 16 years old and are allowed on the air with no education or experience, older people who are stuck in the same place for so long, it's impossible for a new hire to be anything other than a board operator, and my favorite pet peeve, announcers who don't know any music other than hip-hop who are working on country stations and vice versa. I could go on and on and on, so in a general sense, I agree with you.

U got htat right Pink. ;D ;D ;D ;D

And by the way HVB IS a great place to work!!! :-* :-* :-*
