b1079 now mix 1079

Radio and Recods has this to say about this new format change:

http://www.radioandrecords.com/RRWebSite/NewsStoryPage.aspx?ContentID=EwNhk1NUKMQ=&Version=1

Are they picking up the old 97.1 air staff?

Yes, This makes a LOT of sense if look at the the old B107.9 ratings. But how can they(B107.9) react so very fast? What kind of lead time did they have on 97.1 dropping the Hot AC format?? Yes, a very BIG welcome to Mix 107.9. :)

Now my head is spinning with all the format changes in Cbus.
Is this some sort of record for Cbus?

I predicted one for once! ;D

Well, you're gonna have some oldies listeners pissed but I bet they stay @ 1079 :) I would think the jocks would move over to 1079 even though there's a signal loss. At least they have a job. And that is a good question... how did 1079 react so fast? I bet they were recommended to flip. Someone was tipped off.

But... I'm willing to bet it's not going to be as well programmed as MIX. I'm listening online now.

I don't believe they were tipped off. Considering I keep hearing the same liner between every song. I think they threw it together very quickly in the last 24 hours.
Alot of the music was already in the system for Sunny, and I'm sure they have other Hot AC's in the company, mp3 or WAN over some music, and voila! You have a new format!

Could we see Saga move the Hot AC to 104.3 when it goes closer to the city? That signal will have much better penetration into the core of the metro

True. I'm hearing the same sweeper. I have heard 3 since I have tuned in. Also their title on the player is Hot 107-5 :: THE PARTY STATION

That means they stole the player from somewhere, lol. It sounds pretty good so far. Good move, indeed. Mix' imaging was fun and everything sounded CHR. We'll see if MIX can do the same.

Okay. I've been listening since the 12:00 hour and here's what I have discovered.

- They have little sweepers.
- They are building their playlist because they play very little power hits (I have heard them repeat without hearing two of the biggest songs in the country play yet)
- I have heard golds repeat.
- It is not as good as the old MIX BUT you can hear them tweaking.

Any thoughts ? :)

They are doing an excellent job for pulling this off so quickly. I'm sure they are using the 5000 commercial free song time to do some tweaking, win over listeners and get the DJs ready to go.

Again, guessing they threw it together pretty quick, as more and more sweepers have been appearing thruout the day.
As the prod/imaging guy gets them done, they make it on-air.

As far as the repitition of songs, it could be lack of a library, but the cume will also be high in the first few weeks of a new format as people sample it. You want to make sure you're banging your biggest songs, be them current, recurrent, or gold, as people get a taste of what you're all about. Gradually open it up over the next few weeks.
They're keeping it safe and playing huge records right now, as they should be.
Only complaint I'd say is some of the segs are mighty loose. I'd tighten up the end points on the songs.
What do they use for otto-mation over there?

I'd love to see some of the BNS-F jocks move over, especially Mark Dantzer. I wouldn't be surprised if they hired several of them.

That's an idea

Who's PD/MD of the new MIX?
And will signal affect this new Hit Music Station? (I'm calling it that because they are CHR-leaning, less gold-based like the old MIX. Well, we'll be the judge of that when the 5000 songs are up)

Back when 107.9 was STAR, they used an Audisc for automation. No clue what they use now.

By my calculations, they should run out of the 5000 commercial free songs in about 13 days. According to my guesstimation I expect they will have DJs and regular programming in place on Monday, February 9th.

And who gets oldies? 103.1? 103.9? 102.5?
