b1079 now mix 1079

New call letters are WVMX. Probably the first really decent and descriptive new calls this market has seen in quite awhile.

Ok, the first thing that came to mind... WVMX --- West Virginia's Mix!
And your point, Mr. Grovetucky (43123) is?

I know, I know. I'll be the first to admit it... around here, we do have some "interesting" folks. At night, when the air is just right and all is still... I swear you can hear the banjos playing in the distance.

;D

But seriously, that was just the first thing I thought of when I saw the new calls. I'm really ok with them (I agree with Nu_Roo_2). I just wish we could pick up 107.9 out in my part of town (actually, I'm in Columbus with a Grove City mailing address). LOL

Actually, the "tucky" part isn't too far off. The previous home of the WVMX calls was CC's 94.1 in Cincinnati, a hop, skip 'n jump away from tucky.

When will Mix1079 have it's new lineup in place? Did they hire any of the Mix 97.1 people?

I know this doesn't answer much of your question, but...

I've already heard Dave Kay in morning drive. Don't know if he's the intended permanent morning guy.

In the Dispatch article about the flip, the GM didn't commit to whether they would have air talent at all, making some sort of "this all happened so fast, still planning" kind of statement. But I'd be very surprised if it wasn't live or voice-tracked at least through PM drive.

Had anyone else noticed that MIX 1079 is trying to imitate the old Mix 97.1? They're even using the same old Mix 97.1 liners except they've interchanged '1079' with '97.1'. It also appears to me they are even using the same Mix 97.1 voice over women that announced the "80s. 90s and now" liners for their own 1079 liners.

They say imitation is a sincerest form of flattery and it looks like that applies in this case.

Yes, I noticed that they appear to be using the same voice gal and they are sounding more like the mix 97.1 liners. I like it, makes it sound more like the memories I have of Mix 97.1, and I'm sure that is why they are doing it. I'm surprised they didn't nab some of the DJs from 97.1 as well. However, it looks as if they are going cheap on personality as they only seem to have to locals and Billy Bush (nothing about him says local to me).

Yeah, it may sound like the old Mix, but the old Mix sounded almost Adult CHR. This mix is straight Hot AC. Personally, I miss the old Mix's Adult CHR sound.

In regard to 107.9 purposely sounding like the old 97.1...in my opinion and from my experience, that may seem like a good idea on the surface but it's a big mistake. In making the "new" station sound like the "old" one whose format you're now grabbing...you're inviting diary keepers to write down the "old" station....because they may think they're listening to the "old" one. The "old" one could get a double bump and the new one could get dumped on. Of course, all this changes when PPM hits town....whenever that is....just my thoughts....

Wonder who would get the diary credit now if someone entered "Mix 97.1?" If they just wrote "Mix" it's pretty clear the credit would go to WVMX (assuming Saga has been diligent about keeping Arbitron up-to-date).

If they're doing it the way they used to, both stations would split the credit...Each would get half, if I remember correctly.
