BAS does it again - Longtime WLEC Sports Director / Announcer CANNED!

Mark has been offered his position back. He is contemplating it and will do so if certain stipulations have been met.

so it boils down to putting the best product on and then selling and servicing to the enth degree. Period!!!!
...all depends on what your definition of "the best product" is. Look who we're speaking of here & take a listen some time. Waitt isn't the radio savior, Kentucky. If you heard it on 1027 I think you'd agree some of the voices are atrocities. I particularily like their pronunciation of MILAN, Ohio(rhymes with "smilin'")...but the way the "voices out of nowhere" pronounce it is like Milan (Mill-on), Italy. There are many more just like that. BTW, when's the move to Fremont taking place?(Another ingenious idea) ::).

I agree that Waitt isnt the safe haven for radio. However if you can get Waitt for the exact same cost as you can get ABC, doesnt it make sense to go with something that can make you sound local when your really not?

As for them pronouncing Milan wrong, that lies in the hands of the person sending them the info. Waitt operates EZLocalize which is an amazing program. You simply voice the towns yourself, drop them in with the spelling and liners and in less than 2 hours, it comes back to your e-mail!

EZLocalize allows you to write promos, schedule games. For example. Perkins takes on Norwalk or whatever, they send the EZLocalize that Wednesday and they promote it saying. " Hey this is Jonathan Steele on Mix 102.7, hope you join us at the Norwalk game this Friday night thanks to Cameo Pizza and the new Mix 102-7, its Justin Timberlake with What Goes Around on Mix 1027"

All I know is who they hired as their Ops manager, and my name is JR ive said that a million times!

According to the Sandusky Register website...Mr. Fogg returned to the Hut after meeting their with "managers" this afternoon. Suppose to return on air soon.....

Here's the Register story:

Mark was rehired as of today, but will return to the air with Friday night's HSFB game. He will also resume his morning duties as of next Monday.
Note that BOTH J.L. and T.K. from BAS declined comment. I don't think that they were prepared for such an outcome.

I think this goes to show Sandusky has a great interest in it's H.S. sports and Mark has been part of that interest over all these years! ;)

Hey "J.R.," you made a previous claim that you worked for BAS Broadcasting in both Mount Vernon and Fremont. I find that interesting that you claimed that, then claim your name is J.R. because no one with that name or those initials has ever worked for BAS.

consulting my dear friend...consulting. look it up in a dictionary

Again Kentucky, you can get upset all you wish, but any consultant who allegedly worked with a paying client and then hopes on a public forum and chimes in with his two cents worth is grossly irresponsible and not worth paying. I wouldn't take your services if they were free due to your gross unprofessionalism, and I think others should consider that as well.

If he did it for free BAS would swoop him up like a seagull on a french fry. Wouldn't be surprised if MF took a paycut to come back!

Hey Nightfly, since you think you know so much about BAS, which is obviously a joke, instead of speculating on Mark's deal, why don't you call him? Mark's not stupid and a good broadcaster, he actually loves the business, unlike you, the article in the Register said he came back as if he just took a week off.

The "deal" was he was not ALLOWED by BAS to mention anything about their, ahem, "Gross Unprofessionalism" on the air or they would have re-canned him instead of giving him a contract. I also know BAS made NO COMMENT WHATSOEVER to the Sandusky paper. Mark's just supposed to act like nothing happened to protect the ignorant, while in the meantime up in the pressbox his peers ask "what the hell are those people doing out there?"
I hear that little "clause" sure didn't stop Shoffner from giving a few hilariously sarcastic tounge lashings to the "good ole boys network".

Just 2 cents worth, heading up to the North Coast Friday night.sounds like the BAS stations had high school football covered pretty well. They had a rather extensive pregame show which apparently rfan on all of the stations. OK, it was unnacceptable for the ee-vil Clear Channel to own these stations and of course we can't have BAS owning them either. So who would you have rather scooped up these stations., You know as well as I do whoever it was this board would be complainng about (Live jocks...they all suck!).

"Let's take a vote: How many of you bemoaning the current state of radio own an XM/Sirius receiver, keep an I-Pod close by, or stream their own internet radio station?

If you raised your hand, consider yourself a d-bag!"

I subscribe to both Sirus and X-M via streaming, own 2 Ipods, and will stream whatever radio station I please among th the thousands out there..

Why should I be satisfied with commercial radio when I can program my own Yahoo listening--for free, or for a small fee--or when I can hear Howard Stern, or O & A, whenever I please..

Am I supposed to be satisifed with the dirvel that passes for programming in Northeast Ohio because you can't grasp the future for what it is?

Commercial radio is dying..faster then some of you might think..

So please, keep depending on high school football and whatever else passes for "local" programming these days..those of us who understand the future will continue to pursue it..and be entertained by it..

I would consider myself a one dimensional d****bag if I wasted my money on IPods & Serius. 1...because half the crap on sat. is the same you hear on regular radio-just more of the SAME MAINSTREAM since there's less ads. 2...Ipods & Yahoo Radio take the fun out of wondering what song's coming up, and maybe even a little ENTERTAINING "drivel" from an announcer. A song sounds much better coming out of a hot REAL radio station jingle or talk up break with a little of that "real on air sound".
Speaker of the truth sounds like the kid who only ever listened to his burned disc of the same 22 songs over & over & being HAPPY not hearing a track when it first comes out, much less a tornado watch.
I'd be willing to bet there are more people on here that like that REAL radio feel than a Yahoo jukebox or the BAS Great Big Giant Voicetrack Machine. Sat. radio isn't real radio either.

If I need to know about a tornado watch, all I have to do is go to weather.com on my cell phone--which is web enabled--or sign up for a text alert from the same website..

The future is here..some of you can deal..some of you can't.

How many of you Ohio School of Broadcasting grads even know the difference between a "watch"--when conditions are favorable for a storm event..and a "warning"--which is issued when a tornado or other event is imminent, or has been actually seen by a trained storm spotter..God knows I had to explain it to enough of you while I worked in Ohio..when you werent outside puffing on cigs, or telling me how you wanted to tell abortion jokes on the Cleveland Alternative station, if they would only hire you, cause you'd already paid your dues..

A little history lesson..when "Before He Cheats" crossed over to CHR, it was XMs "20 on 20" channel that did it first..commercial radio was late on it, as usual..

Please tell me how radio breaks music anymore..because it doesn't, except on Country Radio...the new Metallica single was first released on I Tunes earlier this month.

And..speaking of country radio, check out artist websites, and see how they're using satellite radio to get the word out..rare is the artist that bothers using commercial radio alone..or at all.

I sure hope you meant Ohio Center for Broadcasting, as I am a graduate of the WIXY School of Broadcast Technique, which later became the Ohio School of Broadcast Technique.

I knew the difference between a watch and a warning. It was explained by one of my classmates. I think his name was Marconi.

But the more I read these boards, the more I realize that people fight change with all their being and don't want the better mousetrap.

Once the recession turns into a full blown depression I have a feeling a lot of people won't be wasting their money on "the sunspot network", i.e...sat. radio. Same with satellite t.v. Imagine that...turning a potentiometer & hearing music without being charged for it.
btw I knew the difference between a watch & a warning before Ohio SCHOOL of Broadcast Technique(when it was still on South Marginal) (and also showed the dense teacher's aid how to slip cue a record).
