Bauerle's Mood Swings

I thought Brad sounded right at home, like he didn't miss a beat being off the radio for many months..........I'd much rather have him in his old format, not taking calls, etc. but he did have very good respectful conversations with the callers.

Did anybody else hear it my way?

While listening to Brad Riter filling in for Bauerle, I had to laugh when hearing him talk about how much fun he's having and how much he loves the 'BEN audience and taking their calls, etc, etc. The reason I laughed was because he hasn't delved into anything really political that would bring the core audience out of the woodwork.

Brad doesn't strike me as being a wingnut, which means he might actually NOT think Obama and Democrats are the devil. Ya'think he'll have as much fun tangling with that "fun" audience when that stuff comes up? :D

I heard about a minute of "it's nice to have phones actually ring, and have actual callers". That was enough for me. Then again, I tuned in to WBEN specifically to hear Brad. Otherwise, I would never have been there.

Larry Hunter is on for Sandy Beach today. Where did they dig him up, he's just awful. I had totally forgotten about him. His fill-ins years ago were painful to witness. I can only guess that WBEN forgot how boring he is. I'd prefer more of Dobson, but I'd actually take just about anyone over this. I wish station management cared as much as the people listening. Hopefully this is a one-time thing.

Is it safe to say that Chris Parker called in a favor for his good friend Brad and that allowed Mr. Riter to get some type of personal meeting with Reid or Wenger or Roth and asked for a "tryout" of sorts to be the new Ron Dobson fill-in type for 930 AM or maybe to pitch a new show weekday evenings?

Roth ... ?

Please connect the dots on Brad Ryder. He suddenly appears as on WBEN filling in on the station he was blasing on WECK. The Bills are moving their flagship. Brad is a sports guy...hmmmm. Is it any more clear where the Bills will land?

Brad is a sports guy? Hmmm. As I recall, sports was way down his topic list when he was on WGR. As far as the Bills landing on WBEN, the question is WHY? WGR's got the younger male audience that the Bills want, and they're the SPORTS station at Entercom. When the Bills were on WBEN, the company competed with WGR - which was one of the reasons that they wanted the Bills. Can you really hear Bills players on the WBEN morning show? Puh-lease. John & Susan talking to most Bills players. Heh. Hahaha. Hahahahahaha!

Entercom will jeopordize their relationship with Pagula and the Sabres. The bills games could air on BEN and 107.7 but all the sport shows and talk would still happen on WGR. It would boost the numbers on WBEN big time for gameday and the added sports programming would help WGR. Remember the Bills were on WBEN 13 years ago before they wentt to 97 Rock.

A) Wrong thread

B) How will Entercom jeopardize their relationship with Pegula? Because they have the Bills AND the Sabres? Are you aware that many sports stations around the country have sometimes THREE major league teams on board, irrespective to ownership?

1. Not the wrong thread. Read above, policeman.
2. There are conflicts which happen during the season. Bills coverage, post game will run into Sabres game times and pre-game. It becaomes a problem because the teams feel they are not getting the coverage they deserve. It happened for years when WBEN had both. That's a fact. Name the radio station's and sports teams that have 3 on board and I'll show you how it works. Back your fact with jack in other owrds.

WBEN wasn't owned by the same people that also owned a SPORTS station when they had the Bills. They also had a younger audience, were still playing music, and had a much larger news department. It was a very different station than the current WBEN.

WGR could use the boost over the summer and into the fall before the Sabres start playing. Their non-Sabres numbers are dismal. Greg Greed might want to pump up Sunday numbers in an attempt to stop WBEN's slow but steady ratings slide, but they still won't beat WYRK. Putting the Bills on WBEN would mean building up a whole new set of sponsors who are unlikely to want their demos any other day of the week. It's much easier to sell the Bills to WGR's sponsors - and to expand WGR's sponsor base with the Bills broadcasts.

The humorous part of it would be the boys on WGR suddenly embracing the Bills and having to be supportive instead of constantly harping on their miscues. An improvement in the Bills record would help that, and it could happen if the team gets all of their injured players back and starts fast again next year.

If the station had their way they would love to do them both on WGR. The sports teams will have the problem. This would be a great opportunity to add new younger listeners to at 65+ station. Either way, once the Bills are at Entercom there will be a muzzle on the negative Bills talk on WGR. Count on that.

The easy answer to any conflict between Bills and Sabres broadcasts is simple. The Bills broadcast continues on the FM that WILL be part of the package. WGR can switch over to the Sabres at any time.

You may have hit on something here, Rox. The last time the Bills were on WGR, they went to four straight Super Bowls! Maybe this would be a good fit -- for the Bills and WGR.

Seriously though, I don't see a muzzle going on the WGR hosts. Maybe they'll tone it down somewhat. But I believe they'll still speak out, when warranted. When I hear Sabres talk, the WGR guys can get pretty critical. So, I would think that would continue. The Bills don't have a lot of options here. With two of the three broadcast ownership groups not interested, the Bills may have to put up with some occasional shots if the games do end up with Entercom.

It took me probably 8 years before I stopped putting on BEN to listen.........And, I'm so ingrained with this stuff that I still put on Ch. 2 for the Bills away games, and CBS has had the AFC for about 13 years also!

There are plenty of VERY negative comments made about the Sabres by various WGR hosts, usually when they're doing poorly. I also hear some VERY positive things about the Bills, when they're playing well.

They handle it reasonably and I don't expect that to change.

Brad is on today (12/30) for Bauerle until noon.

Larry Hunter filling in for Sandy Beach the past couple of days has been BRUTAL to listen to.

Where is Ron Dobson?

I am assuming Dobson couldn't do Beach's show this week. I am also assuming nobody else could fill in. How else would you explain the choice of Hunter....for a full week, no less? It's stunning how boring he is. Nice programming.

Thank God for Sirius/XM.

Contrary to popular opinion, esp. on the Bills board, this is very true. GR has been blasting the Sabres, saying things as bad as they wouldn't watch them if they didn't have to, etc. And, they really always have except for the two years when they were so good...........And, they heap plenty of praise on the Bills earlier this year, when they were deserving of it.
