Beasley Ft Myers

WRXK 96.1 Stunting

By the way, anyone outside the Southwest Florida area can listen live online:
mms://bdcast-beasley-whhd-fm.wm.llnwd.net/bdcast_beasley_wrxk-fm

Also, there is a countdown on their website front page
http://www.96krock.com/splash.html
... yet there is still a link to get to the main website, complete with "96 K-Rock" references.

Plus, as mentioned, they're still known as "K-Rock".

I'd imagine there's some Metallica-themed promotion coming to the area, or there's a new morning show.

From what I can gather, The APD is now the PD. The AM show is still in place but, everyone else was let go. On a side note, the PM chick on 99x was let go as well. So, I'm guessing the "PD" will be the afternoon guy and the format??? Hell....I have no idea.
But, they HAD to do something. They really lost their music image when they were Howard in the AM and talk in the afternoons. Plus, the night show talked a lot from what I've heard. WARO has been killing them in the ratings ever since Howard left.
We'll see Friday morning.

They should just rock from 1980-1994. Maybe one current an hour. Safe but effective

my point about the stunting angle is that with the heritage and past success WRXK has enjoyed, it is a sad thing when they have to resort to stunting to get any attention. This is the most buzz I've heard about WRXK since I found this board, so it appears to be the right move. Like Medlin said earlier, we'll see on friday

Got in the car this morning and heard they've added AC/DC to the mix. With the monster ratings "Bob" pulled, looks like they may go the "Everything that Rocks" route.

-Brian

I agree with Medlin.... they're gonna go the "Everything That Rocks" or "Rock Of The 80's and More" route with some new imaging. With 99X playing all the new stuff, 96.1 will stick with the classics but will re-focus on the 80's and 90's leaving the 70's and classic "hits" to Arrow.

Problem with Ratings and Rock or classic rock is...they dont bring in a wider range of listeners. They target specific age groups. What do people in their 30s and 40s listen to? CDs and old Tapes...cause they are tired of hearing the same classic rock tunes you hear in every city in every state every other hour. Upper Management and Music Directors need to look outside the box and make Classic Rock different than what you expect to hear...and thats make it louder and more fun.. and thats whats lacking in all rock music.. Fun Rockin Songs..

And as of today, they've thrown Guns N' Roses into the mix.

My guess is a fourth artist will be added to this temporary playlist tomorrow.

If it's the kind of rock format I think it'll be, remember that Fort Myers actually had this format on 92.5 FM - "The Hog" - before they took the country format from 98.5 FM.

and boy didn't it perform well...mismanagement had alot to do with Real Rocks/The Hogs failure. If Beasley follows the lead of Sagas Milwaukee property 102.9 The Hog it would probably do well, as much of SW Floridas snowbird population comes from the midwest, but it would, in my opinion, make 99X irrrelevant...delicate balancing act

The hog was one and done in Ft. Myers. Good station/logic. Classic rock demo doesn't want to hear "jumpin' jack flash" and "my generation" next to "no one like you" or "evenflow". It's two different audiences. I think 96.1 will do well. Who will be on air besides the rumored Stan and Haney? New talent? Thing is, their talent seemed just fine and the last thing they'd need to change. I hope they just got a free vacation out of this stunt. Too many people out of work already. Beasley doesn't seem too bent on blowing the thing up. I mean, they're KEEPING the same moniker after all!

Confirmed: The fourth artist is Alice in Chains. Now playing at 7:04 AM: "Would".

actually the 4th artist was Nirvana or you can say Seattle Bands....Nirvana,Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, or Alice in Chains and STP... now ok Fine I can "agree" they are popular classic rock bands from over a decade ago, so you have to play them on a "Todays" classic rock station... but arnt they already played to DEATH in every Pure Rock 90s station out there such as, 98rock,JRR,.. actually crap every city? OK. OK, Whatever, But lets not skip the Hair bands and Metal that No City plays like Poison, Winger, Warrent, Slaughter, Whitesnake,Def leppard,Megadeth, Iron Maiden, Savatage,Anthrax, Pantera, etc cause they Are Classic Rock.

Another Program Director afraid to Rock......argh!! Take a chance!!

well I've got an old friend who works at 96.1, she's a single mom and I hope she gets a chance to prove her worth with the new format, whatever it may be

It would be great IF 96 K-ROCK would add those artists to their playlist.

The station was overdue for a change.

So, after four days of being treated to the likes of Metallica, AC/DC, Guns N' Roses and grunge bands, I just turned on 96 K-Rock to hear the likes of... George Thorogood - "One Bourbon..." Then a "96 K-Rock" liner - the same generic one heard all week - followed by Heart's "Barracuda".

Isn't this the same music WRXK was playing before this week? What the hell were they doing this week? Teasing an HD-2 channel? What was the point of that?

OMG ANOTHER STATION(MUSIC DIRECTOR) THAT IS AFRAID TO PLAY CLASSIC METAL.. THEIR RATINS WILL REMAIN CRAP AS ALONG AS THEY PLAY LED ZEPPELIN EVERY HOUR, THE BANDS HE MENTIONED ABOVE, AND ALSO THE REST OF THE 70S AND EARLY 80S STUFF. I MEAN WE BEEN HEARING THIS MUSIC FOR 30 YEARS + EVERY HOUR, EVERY DAY IN EVERY CITY THROUGHOUT AND CLASSIC ROCKS RATINGS CONTINUE TO BE NEAR THE BOTTOM OF THE RATINGS IN EVERY CITY.
OK SO THEY ARE DOING ALL THINGS THAT ROCKED....FINE BUT GET RID OF THE MUSIC ABOVE AND PLAY MORE CLASSIC METAL IS ALL WE ASK AND STOP PLAYING A BAND WITHIN 3 HRS CAUSE THERE ARE MORE THAN 50 BANDS OUT THERE THAT ROCKED ARENAS IN THE 80S EARLY 90S. AS SAID BEFORE, WE WANT, PANTERA,MEGADETH,ANTHRAX,SUICIDLE TENDENCIES, TESLA,RATT,WINGER,WARRENT,SLAUGHTER ARE JUST TO NAME A FEW...AND BTW WHY DONT THEY PLAY ALICE COOPER? AND ISNT POISON THE #1 HARD ROCK HAIR BAND IN THE 80S-EARLY 90S BUT THEY WILL PLAY SKID ROW (WHOM I LOVE). THIS STATIONS RATING WILL GO UP FOR MAYBE THE 1ST QUARTER..BUT NOT MUCH AND THEN FALL BACK UNLESS THEY GET RID OF THE 70S AND PUT MORE METAL ON TONIGHT OR THIS WEEKEND CAUSE EVERYONE THATS BEEN WAITING FOR TODAY AT 6AM HAS BEEN DISSAPOINTED IN THE SAME TYPICAL CLASSIC ROCK.

MEDLIN, COWHEAD, OTHER DJS AND MUSIC DIRECTORS, IF YOU BECOME A MUSIC DIRECTOR FOR A CLASSIC ROCK STATION...GO OUTSIDE THE BOX AND PLAY WHAT WE WANT AND NOT WHAT THE #s SHOW CAUSE THEY WONT SHOW CLASSIC METAL CAUSE ITS NEVER PLAYED.

Most of those artists you mentioned are way off of the map. I know all of them as do most people who read these boards, but the "sheepole" would probably see them as nothing more than a novelty and a novelty station wouldn't be very profitable.

If you had a station banging "I Saw Your Mommy and Your Mommy's Dead" followed by "Unskinny Bop" and "Cherry Pie," 98% of the people would turn it off. Radio is a business of numbers, my friend. And the number of people still wearing their skully over their mullet has really dwindled. Even in SWFL.

we played a good amount of that type of rock when I programmed Rock 106 back in the day, then the wheel was taken out of my hands and a consultant was given carte blanche, and he proceeded to alienate the core we had built with bands like Big Country. Then he went and programmed my direct competitor, 96 K Rock. How bout dat irony. Alot of that stuff you speak of can't be the meat and potatos of a station, but used as a little side dish to keep folks on their toes and put the unpredictable element and attitude back into rock radio that Wall Street has taken away. Give em time, maybe they'll surprise you. Maybe they won't. Yay corporate radio.
