And his rib restaurant at Bethel and Sawmill, a branch of his Cincy operation, failed even more miserably. Which is no surprise despite the fact that the food was great. The Jazz & Ribfest notwithstanding, Columbus is the poster-child for NON-rib-loving towns. (Even as stuff like Carolina pulled-pork BBQ has developed quite a following hereabouts.) E.g., go to a City BBQ location here and you will see few, if any, folks muching on their specialty slabs. But go to one of their non-Columbus locations and lots of the patrons will be enthusiastically gnawing away on the bones. While there are a lot more Columbus diners ordering ribs than 10 or 15 years ago, it still a small number compared to just about everywhere else. Never understood why...

No, Columbus is definitely NOT a rib-eating town despite what many of the restaurant reviewers like to claim (except at the Ribfest, when there is a temporary mass conversion).  About three weeks ago I was at City Barbecue on a crowded evening.  Looked around to see if anyone at another table was eating ribs.  Not a one.  The next week I was in Chicago at a similar type of place called Smoque.  It was also crowded, and over half of the folks were chowing down on ribs, even though pulled pork sandwiches are a specialty.

But obviously in an area pushing 2 million you've got to have *some* full-slab Fred Flintstones around.

One test will be to see if Shane's Rib Shack in the Polaris area makes it.  I know that in Atlanta you see people lined up outside the door to get Shane's Ribs.  You're not gonna see that here, even if it gets enough business to survive.  Outside of the inner-city, places with "Ribs" in the name rarely make it here.  Even Damon's dumped the "Place for Ribs" sub-monicker after awhile.
 
Well WTDA could create a new format called variety talk. In my earlier post it would be Bob and Tom for hot talk, Dennis Miller righty talk, Lionel Lefty talk, Shark on Sports and Dan Patrick Sports Talk, and of over nights it would be Joey Reynolds and Fox Sports. Heck if they want to WTDA should do a local Five AM show. heck if WVKO have Local Live Weekends with local host why doesn't WTDA have a local 5AM news cast?

Lionel used to be on the old liberal talk WTPG-AM 1230 before it changed to WYTS-AM. That is one show
I couldn't stand to listen to on the old WTPG-AM. I'm glad the management at progressive talk WVKO-1580had enough sense not to include Lionel in their live 9PM to 12MN time slot but instead chose to carry the Thom Hartman show on tape delay basis from 9PM to 12MN.
 
Its just a matter of time before Glenn Beck is back on a Clear Channel station in Columbus. He's syndicated, so a station can put Beck on and not have to pay someone else a whole lot of money. Since this is the time of year where CC decides, lets start making cuts, a change will be made.
 
Since this is "race to the bottom" CC, I'm guessing they will get rid of Joel or Corby. I did notice that Carla is gone from Sunday nights. Good riddance.

Well for you it's "Good riddance" but for me it's grief and agony. I for one happen to be a big Carla fan and
hope that Carla decides to come out of her radio retirement and/or CC Columbus throws her a bone.

That said, some of her detractors have said they turn off WTVN radio when her show was on the air but I was
told she retired from WTVN AND she is STILL listed on the http://www.wtvn.com web site under personalities here: http://www.wtvn.com/pages/pp_carla.html
That leads me to believe me may be hearing Cara back on the air soon on a fill in bases during the holiday. I sure hope so!
 
No one in their right mind would like Carla....she is an overbearing shrew....her voice is like nails on a chalkboard.....thank God if TVN actually "capped" her show....
 
Well there is only one ex-junkie on the radio and that is Rush. Carla is nothing more that a self-righteous hypocrite when it comes to her own experience with drugs.
 
Carla had a three hour show on the weekends. I looked froward to her show each week but wouldn't care to
listen to her on a daily basis. Those self-righteous views of her would get old on a daily basis but are the reasons
she did OK with her weekend show. Some of the TVN listens said they would either change the stations or turn
off the radio was on when Carla was on but not me. I liked listening to her self-righteous views as long as it did
not get old. She was known to hang up on listeners that that didn't agree with her. That is another reason some
people didn't not like her show.

WTVN Program Director Mike Elliot stated, “Mr. Beck’s engaging and thought-provoking commentary and content will fit perfectly in our already phenomenal line-up of stars on 610 WTVN. I’m excited to have him back on Columbus’ most listened to radio station.”

WTVN's station line-up will be as follows:

5:00-5:30A News First @ 5

5:30-9:00A The Bob Conners Show

9:00-Noon The Glenn Beck Program

Noon-3P Rush Limbaugh

3-7P The John Corby Show

7-10P Sean Hannity

10-Mid Mark Levin
 
I'm sure CC is happy to save the money, but I didn't see what was wrong with having Beck on live, Riley on in evenings, and Hannity 9-mid or 10-1. There are no other talk stations to speak of, so if WTVN didn't air Hannity, ABC couldn't find somewhere else to put him, so I don't see why they air Levin. Although if they have to run Levin, I don't see why they don't throw him on 1230.

Nothing's wrong with what you suggest - unless - someone from "up above" has told you to cut one salary from the budget...and it sure wasn't gonna be BC or Corby.

BUT why wasn't Joel's producer not willing to mention that Joel is history in the 9AM to Noon time slot when
he substituted for him last Friday? All he said is that both of them will be off next week. There was certainly
a LOT of fanfare when Joel took over this time slot from Glenn Beck almost three years ago.
 
I can't believe no brought up this article from THEOTHERPAPER on Bob Conners aka BC and Mayor Coleman.

Its called:
"MEDIA MORSEL: Conners to Coleman: Correct it yourself"

I think BC is wanting to bring attention to Glenn Beck's return to the WTVN airways by bringing up the fact that Mayor Coleman dose not want to be on his very popular show on WTVN. BC wants their listeners to
remember that very memorable conversation Mayor Coleman had with Glenn Beck a few years ago when Glenn
Beck was on WTVN radio.

Elliot seems to think Conners is being punished for an incident that took place in 2005 during the mayor’s brief, but gaffe-filled, run for governor. Coleman made an ill-advised call-in to the Glenn Beck show hosted on WTVN, where he and the conservative radio host spent a few minutes screaming over each other before the mayor shouted, “Don’t question my manhood!” Long story short, it was not a beneficial conversation for the mayor.

“The issue a few years back was on a syndicated program the mayor called into and, I’m sure you know, didn’t go well,” said Ellliot, in an email to Williamson.

Since then, the mayor’s appearances on WTVN have been, well, there haven’t been any.
