Ben and Skin....Suck

Shaky is one thing, just bad is another. In the 3 days that I have tried to listen I have heard things that college radio jocks don't do. Sorry, but a veteran producer would help them schedule a show, direct them away from bad topics, and help them make bits work, and not bomb. The real truth is they got a position that they don't have the skill for. Period. Seems strange to me that if you didn't work at the station that you would know how hard Eric works, or that P&K didn't get fired, or many of the inside info tips you have only about one station. I don't blame you for trying to cover it up, but it is pretty obvious. You seem to act like this is the first time they cracked a mic... In that situation you would be correct, but it isn't the case. This is big market radio, and any show that is hired here should be better than what B&S are putting out. As I said it is not just a little shaky, it is just bad. Bad is bad.....
P.S. Be careful what you post, Posting here cost Mike S. a gig because Russ is so sensitive ;)

I don't know who Mike S is. But knowing certain people does get me some information that others may not be privy to.

And I'm done. I'll holler back at you and see how you're doing when they've been on for a few months.

Good luck with your show... and that whole mature name-calling thing. ;)

Would somebody be so kind as to shed some light on the MikeS/Russ/radio-info.com scndal? What happened and why? I am clueless.

Someone help me understand!!

...I continue to see this concept that talent isn't visible in new show hosts.....this is simply not true! I remember the first weeks of the ticket - I didn't know Greg and Mike rhyner would be great but I absolutely heard talent, professionalism, a strong direction as to what they wanted the show to become. They weren't polished but the talent and plan was there.

I would love to hear someone explain why talent should be completely void on a new show but maigically become apparent after some time frame. ...who approaches life like that? Would you want a surgeon who says - well I'm not very good at the beginning of the operation but "don't worry - I get better as I go along!!"

so out of pre-med, all surgeons are awesome?

I guess I'm not expressing myself very well.

I'm not saying all new surgeons are great right out of med school. I am saying they should show some promise & talent . They should have a steady hand, they should know what area of medicine they want to practice, they should have the discipline and demeanor it would take to become a good surgeon.

Just being a new surgeon doesn't guarantee you will become a good one! Some folks on the board are saying 'they are new - they'll getr better'...maybe ....My point is there are signs that can be identified sooner rather than later.

I've been giving these guys a chance all week. And I'll listen again tomorrow.
But. So far I haven't been impressed. :'(
They had plenty of practice doing weekends at The Ticket, and I'm sure they knew they had the job in plenty of time to do some prep-work and practice.
It just doesn't sound like it. I was really hoping they'd step up and bring the A game.
Most of the time they talk in a monotone voice. So even when the topic is interesting, they aren't.
As some of the others have said. This is market 5. This isn't where you come to warm up for he big-time.
This is the big-time.
I haven't given up on them yet. But it has to get better quick.

Stinkymess - you hit on a good point - one major problenm is the lack of energy in their voices!

I'm listening to ESPN radio now. Greggo is on the air with RJ somebody and Tony Casias for the first time. It's very easy to listen to - Greggo fell right into the 'pace' of the show - it's not completely polished but it's obvious these are talented professionals.

Nothing wrong with being patient but I dont know that talent will grow..

I have No FAITH in 105.3 anymore..
I love Jagger but since his show has been "best of"
I have stopped listening all together..
I think I am past the DT's.... ;D
It was hard listening to music again after 5 years
of talk radio, but it's kinda nice..
I just hope pugs and kelly find another station soon..
I couldn't listen to BDH and I can't listen to these new guys..
They are really not that good..

One of Ben and Skin's problems (and they had this at the Ticket) they think they are funny.
I've never heard two people laugh at their own schtick, more than these two.
That "prank" they pulled on the salesperson the other day, was lame. And they took multiple segments to tell the story. What makes a good prank, is the reaction of the victim once they find out it's a prank.
They cut it off before that. Not funny.

Yeah, I heard that also. He went right with the flow of things.

First exactly right Rodzilla... Second Come on Trelvis, that was not fitting right in.... Greggo might want to go to one game, or visit the locker room once before giving me his expert opinion...

I think Eric is the only good thing on that show. This may sound weird but I LOVE Eric's voice and his laugh. It's not a "DJ" voice. It's a real person. He's also very smart and insightful. He shines through the crap. I wish he had his own show.

Isaidso...I think you missed the point. We can agree/disagree whether Greggo's opinion on the Cowboys is good or bad. Donr forget, the poin of a talk show is to encourage discussion. But, his ability to sit in on the show & deliver is what the thread is about. You may disagree with the content but it was presented in a professional easy-to-listen -to manner.

After listening to the show for the third time yestersay--this time for almost an hour....I have to agree that they do indeed suck. Here's why:
Yesterday they were talking about Sarah Palin: and I kept asking myself:

1. Why are they going out of there way to preface that this is a neutral show before every point? Why is it neutral? Are we trying not offend anyone...and if that's the case why is the entire point of view of the program loaded with biases. It's like that irritating friend or co-worker who always has to play devil's advocate on any issue...it's essentially a knock-off of the John and Jeff syndicated program, which I'm not sure is on in Dallas or not, only less entertaining.

Even as a registered democrat, which has nothing to do with anything, I sat there and heard them say repeatedly "Is Sarah Palin really the most qualified choice for vice-president" followed by their built declaration of neutrality and a smug comment or two to elicit a couple of barely screened calls to get through the segment. I'm guessing the average hold time was less then ten seconds.

I think this program needs to talk about what they know rather then expose themselves in subject matter they are woefully unprepared to discuss. It also wouldn't hurt if they gave a few more opinions and asked a few less questions. That is gutless talk radio. As for their producer Eric, who everyone seems to have a problem with on the air, I didn't hear him once during that time. However, I can't praise his off-air talents like some have if he can't recognize a trainwreck in progress. My question is, and remember I'm totally neutral here, "Are Ben and Skin really the most qualified hosts to take over the 10:30-2pm spot??? ???
