Beyonce Country Project

^^^ And now because its closed, it most definitely never will get a reply from anyone else. You may as well be saying that only the most well-known singers can be acknowledged here. How is that supposed to help Mason or anyone else who is not on the front burner? I recently started two other chats here about two other country music acts who haven't been on the front burner in years. Does this mean that it's only a matter of when before those two chats are closed up as well?

God bless you and Mason and my other favorites always!!!

Holly (a girl who only loves Mason more every day)

The question that I asked here last night was never answered and, in a way, it does concern the Beyonce matter. Did Dolly Parton submit her rock album for any of the non-country Grammy awards? If she did and her work had been nominated, I can't help but wonder what the response would've been to her being amongst the non-country singers.

God bless you and Dolly and Beyonce always!!!

Holly

Since at least one of the Byrds was in Crosby, Stills and Nash (and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young) I have to point out that some of their music could pass for country.
David Crosby had already been kicked out of the Byrds by the time they recorded SWEETHEART OF THE RODEO. That was the full fledged Country album they made that wasn't accepted by the Country purists. CSNY(and their solo records) certainly had some songs that were Country-ish...

"Teach Your Children," definitely. I've heard it played on the local classic country station as a track from a "crossover artist" even though country radio never played it as a current. Other "crossovers" that get airplay include the Band's "The Weight," CCR's "Bad Moon Rising," "Lookin' Out My Back Door" and "Lodi," America's "Sister Golden Hair" and any number of songs by Bob Dylan. Not exactly your average classic country station, but that's what you get when you're in Market #220 or so.

The Lovin' Spoonful had a top 10 pop hit in 1966-67 with "Nashville Cats." I don't think that ever was sent to country radio, either.

Neil Young songs like "Country Girl", "Harvest Moon", "Are You Ready For The Country" and several others qualify as Country tunes. Of course, "Southern Man" aggravated certain folks for its point of view...
Those folks aired their aggravation by recording a song that eventually joined "Southern Man" in the fossilized playlist of classic rock stations. Both are still there today.

"Are You Ready for the Country" and "Heart of Gold" get played on the station I referred to previously (WCNL), but not "Southern Man."

EDIT at 4:30 EST: WCNL is now playing Bob Seger's "Roll Me Away." Not a song I'd call crossover, but "Against the Wind" would certainly fit.

Yes, both songs are Crispy Critters. The Great Warren Zevon answered with this --

SWEET HOME ALABAMA
PLAY THAT DEAD BANDS SONG
TURN THOSE SPEAKERS UP FULL BLAST
PLAY IT ALL NIGHT LONG...

Zevon is a guy that should have had a closet full of Grammys...

Too smart for his audience, and the voters in these types of activities.

Maybe Bey learned a bit of history along the way...kudos to her for the awards.

I'd like to thank the lovely Beyonce for the inspiration to continue on with my support for Mason Ramsey. I found this clip of his new song through a write up on the song at the US Weekly website. The song gets officially released tomorrow. :) :) :)

God bless you and Beyonce and Mason and his duet buddy Harper Grace always!!!

P.S. How did Beyonce inspire me? Some people think that she should stay in her lane where her newest award-winning album is concerned considering the fact that her album is filled with material that she normally is not known for. Did she stay in her lane? No. How can I stay in my lane when I was completely locked out of it?

That not-country singer and her not-country album took favorite female country singer and favorite country album honors last night at the American Music Awards. Is any radio station, in any format, still playing ANYTHING from that album in 2025?

Do the AMAs matter in the industry?

Award shows might get the artist and or songwriter some money from that royalty the show pays. If it is a Union stage (Grand Ole Opry) a performer will get at least "scale" with a valid union card. Fame can never hurt you on your next release so it's a good thing. I don't know how many folks will pay to download a song just because it won an award but I guess there are some unit sales.

Most Country Acts make the majority of their money from touring. I have never seen a study of how awards impacted ticket sales but it can't hurt. Your booking agent is supposed to get you the lion's share of the ticket money from the venue if you are the headliner at a concert. You will need it to cover the cost of your band. I know one thing the price of concert tickets hasn't go done lately.

Yes they get paid AFTRA fee plus song royalty, which is much bigger for TV play than radio. Plus anything else they might kick in.

But these people are multi-multi-millionaires who really don't care about money. The award shows pick up their airfare (private plane) and luxury hotels, and a lot of artists still avoid them. It means getting dressed up, hair & makeup, dealing with fans, and other annoyances.
