Beyonce Country Project

Beyonce spends another week on top of the Hot Country chart.

In the meantime, another new female singer named Dasha jumps into the Top 10. Here's a quote from Billboard:

Dasha scores her first Hot Country Songs top 10 as “Austin” flies 18-5. The song — which she performed April 7 at the CMT Music Awards in, fittingly, Austin — drew 12.9 million official U.S. streams (up 25%) April 5-11, according to Luminate. On Country Airplay, it climbs 45-39 (2.7 million in audience, up 68%).

Here's some background on Dasha:

Did they make this up or did it really happen?

On "Not Dead Yet" Nell made people mad by changing the channel in a bar where the Chicago Cubs were about to win the World series for the first time in decades. By the time she realize she had changed all the TVs and not just one, the game was over.

Beyonce was performing with The Dixie Chicks on the CMA Awards. However, Nell couldn't find the broadcast and after she messed up, she was running from angry people.

Beyoncé is bringing her fans of color to country music. Will they be welcomed in? It really did happen, according to this.

Meanwhile, back here on planet earth…..

I thought Country music was supposed to be more "authentic", but when I listen to modern Country, I hear the most heavily Auto-Tuned vocals this side of Cher's "Believe".

The #1 song on Billboard's Hot Country Chart this week is a rapper named Shaboozey. Never heard of him? Here's Billboard's explanation:

The track, which interpolates J-Kwon’s “Tipsy,” jumps 6-1 on Hot Country Songs. It surged by 95% to 20.9 million official U.S. streams and 48% to 14,000 sold April 19-25, according to Luminate. As Shaboozey (right) dethrones Beyoncé’s “Texas Hold ’Em,” two Black artists have led back to back for the first time.

That's what happens when streaming controls the country chart. We don't know who these streamers are, or if they like country music. But they like this song, and it is targeting the country chart. So it's now #1.

All I hear is the Auto-Tune. The tune isn't the worst I've ever heard, but I'd rather hear this guy rap than have circuitry turn him into a singer. Can't imagine country radio -- or any radio -- giving this one the time of day, subhuman streaming sheeple be damned.

I just looked at Mediabase, and I see 9 stations are playing A Bar Song by Shaboozey. The top spinners are KBAY in San Jose, KKBQ in Houston, KML Phoenix, and WPOR Portland. Most of the spins are in overnight. A broad range of owners, including Audacy, iHeart, and Alpha. I spoke to a country programmer I know, asked if he was going to play it, and gave me a no.

Interesting that KKBQ is playing it. Did Beyonce's song do better at KKBQ in her hometown of Houston than elsewhere? I see Shaboozey is from the Washington, DC, area. No interest from WMZQ?

i finally listened to the beyonce song.. doesnt SOUND bad, i dont quite think its country.. but ill add it to the automated rotation here eventually

I recommend looking for the clean version. The one without the S word in the first verse.
Although that doesn't prevent most classic rock stations I've heard from playing the "dirty" version of Pink Floyd's "Money." Apparently, nobody's complaining and the FCC doesn't care.

The FCC doesn't care BECAUSE nobody is complaining. I worked at stations that played "Who Are You" and other songs that had fleeting profanities. No listeners ever complained and it was a non issue. I can't imagine any station being fined in this day and age for something so trivial...

Two different formats. In country, it's disrespectful to curse at your audience. Beyonce doesn't know that,
