Billy Bones?

I wonder if Billy Brown is still mourning Whitney Houston's death... ::)

He was on this morning. He managed to get Gerry House on the phone (I'm sure to help ratings) for advice. I didn't hear if he called Billy to see what not to do (joking Billy).

I'll listen again. Nothing made me rant and rave over it, but they seem like a decent group. The energy level is much for 6am, but they seem real and invite audience connection (via phone, FB, etc). I'm certain most over age 40 won't care for them. I'm 25, so they seem to hit that demo, along with social media hard. Imagine The Bert Show with a little more hype, flannel, and hippster glasses. I did hear "Bobby Bones" 400 times today over and over so hopefully they'll reduce all the show IDs.

I listened from about 6AM to the end. I realized a bit in that I had actually listened to them before somewhere else when I was travelling - I guess on some station they were syndicated on because I was not in Austin. I was quite surprised at how much I liked it. Like Gerry alluded to when he called in, they need to be themselves and talk about what is going on in their lives and people will listen. I think people want personality-driven radio. I have tons of music on my iPod. If I only want to hear songs, I'll listen to that. I want to connect to people.

Of course, just hearing Gerry for a few minutes made me realize how much I wish he was still on. I'm 39 - I listened to Gerry for years. I was very disappointed when he was basically forced out, but CC wanted all music and no personality because they can still manage a huge profit with that formula. Then, CC screwed Billy & Karla by forcing them to play a ton of music and have next to no talk and apparently no budget. They never stood a chance.

Now, we're back to something similar to what the House Foundation was in the first place. The only reason we're getting it now is because Billy Bones will be syndicated and knocking other shows off the air and saving CC money that way. But, I do think that Billy Bones, at least from day one, appears to be a pretty good fit for pulling in the younger demo, like NashvilleNative said. And, I think some of us that have slipped into the other demos will stick around also!

Billy & Karla never stood a chance from the new PD/Ops Mgr's first day on the job. Which coincidentally was one of CC's infamous "RIF" days.

Best advice EVER...just do the opposite of what I'd do! Lol. I think this show is gonna do well and I'm really rooting for them. I've always loved WSIX and would be thrilled to see it back on top, where it belongs.

Man, is this a textbook case for whether PPM will kill the radio star. It probably won't prove a damn thing, because the industry know-it-alls will rewrite the facts to suit them, but Gerry talked to much, so Gerry is gone. Rbi g in several new shows to follow in huge shoes, diminish their talk time to fit PPM and create disaster. Fix it with a team that talks MORE than Gerry did and ....

How does Billy Bones actually win??

Gerry House Foundation > Billy & Karla > Bobby Bones
Howard Stern > David Lee Roth > Opie & Anthony

Suddenly, Rocker62's prediction above is somewhat accurate...

Oh, come on...David Lee Roth?! Now THAT hurts! Lol

Taking bets that old cheap channel pulls the plug and sends Bones & company packing in less than two years.

I think it's CC's cheapness that will keep them in place since they announced they will be on 35 other CC stations starting next week. That's 35 stations with staff reductions or other savings (other programming being replaced, etc.). Plus, on the station Billy Bones left, they are just piping in Elvis Duran there now so that makes 36!

Bill Boner is back doing CHR on a country station.

Whoever they hired is getting some money. I heard there were a bunch of Mercedes with Texas plates in the WSIX parking lot.

Don't they forget:
Tennessee is the mother of Texas and always will be.
