Bob Dumas in trouble again...

When we go overbaord with PC, we need to reread Thurber's story about the bear. He;s correct in his motto.
Bobby will always be the kid who, along with Kim-O's now husband, used to schtup groupies in the loft of Bob Orr's bar in Underground during the Saturday night show back in the day. Firing him would merely send the message, "We let pressure groups and special interests run our radio stations." Bad idea. The indian at my house (who thinks the whole PC 'native american' thing is a load of BS) claims she would of been just as lazy if she had of been a white eyes. I never refute her, for fear of waking up dead from a tomahawk wound one day.
 
Well, I have heard the stuff on the N&R's website and those aren't as "bad" (IMO) as the transcripts I saw. The columnist's point is that this stuff clearly is worse in several subtantive ways than the Imus comments. While I am not in favor of getting a rope and hanging BD from the highest tree, I think she is correct. Any other takers on that point?

Agreed, Dick's one helluva good guy. He's also been around long enough to have climbed out of bigger holes than this...

How 'bout a hole like this: the stink being raised about the Showgram, coupled with Kiss having to find a new morning show to replace Whoopi... and don't get me started on 100.7 and 106.1, although The Rooster did do good in moving Keith Todd to mornings...

Speaking of Kiss, Chris Shebel mentioned that the new show would start on Monday--- at the same time the Showgram returns and Randi moves back to her PM-drive slot--- but I couldn't catch who it will be. Does anyone know if the new Kiss morning show will be local talent or another syndicate?
 
Check the Dave Kent site on the Kiss website. It looks like he'll be returning to the am drive slot Monday morning, so local it seems to be.

Capital never would, but Curtis would in a heartbeat. He's not stupid. He knows that Bob is instant ratings. Here's how it would play out if G would ever fire Bob (which they won't)

1. Curtis starts negotiating with Bob
2. Bob will only join up if Curtis will also buy out Mike and Kristin's contracts (assuming they weren't fired as well)
3. Salt and Demetri are fired
4. The triangle rejoices
5. The full Showgram (with the exception of Jon. He's completely dispensable) is brought onto WBBB mornings
6. Success.

You gotta realize.. The audience that Bob pulls in doesn't care at all about top 40. After 10, they split. Curtis knows that a worthwhile portion on Bob's audience would stick around for a rock station.

But this is all a moot point because G will never ditch Bob, unless he stabs someone or develops tourettes...
 
Don Curtis would never hire BD. When was the last time you had an outspoken jock who likes to make trouble on the Curtis airwaves. He's on the board of the N.C. Association of Broadcasters. That means, walk on eggshells people.
One more thing, BD ain't gettin' fired from CC so, he ain't goin' nowhere. Tune him in on Monday. He'll apologize, say he's sorry, have a group cry and then go out on the streets with his stuntboy and tie him naked to the roof of the broadcast van and dump chocolate and strawberries (they're in season now) all over him. Then invite the girly girls who listen to the Showgram to try and see who can eat the most mess and win tickets to the Creek.

Don't be so sure about CC cutting the cord on Bob. Consider the massive amount of talent (some really good talent) CC has put on the beach in the name of voicetracking. While I'm not suggesting they will try to track G mornings, I do think the decision is way above local CC managements heads and I'm sure by today's standards Bob's salary ranks up there with most regional brass for the company. A few years ago I would have absolutely agreed but considering the radio climate and the need for companies like CC to do ANYTHING possible to keep the books in the black so they can get themselves sold off. I wouldn't bet that Bob's "profitability" wins this battle. Think about it, his salary would add another couple hundred grand to the struggling clusters bottom line. For the moment, that's probably more important that saving a valuable talent. The Mays brothers DON'T CARE anymore, their not looking at the long term.
