Yes, I would prefer local shows over syndicated...but any jock worth their weight can hear that alot of times, the local shows just don't measure up. There are crappy national shows (Lia, Countdowns, anything on that True Country station, XM) and there are crappy local shows. It works the other way too...it's just that these days you have to look at a show for what it is, regardless of where it comes from. Is it good? Is it not? Like I said before, I'm for GREAT RADIO...so if there is a show out there better than the one that's airing, it should be on. It forces everyone to be better, atleast it should. Unfortunately companies have given up on developing young talent (so local is suffering) and radio is no longer a destination point for young talent.
But when you say that a show should be on a shift over another just because "it's local," you should hope it's on because it's a good product. Not just because it broadcasts from 50th street or something. If I was a pd I would look at the options, and if my local guy's kicking butt then awesome. If he's not, then I'm looking for something better, and if that is a show that comes out of Yakima, Washington...bring it on.
The problem is, there just isn't enough great radio being done...regardless of it's origin.
GOOD RADIO costs $$$$$$ so, there won't be any good radio for awhile.
