Boom! We're getting classic hip hop...

So negative. If the station is not your cup of tea, why comment on it. You are wasting time typing these words. Let those who may enjoy it talk about it.

Are they still in mono? Seems like it

Nope the FM Stereo light on my 70s Fisher turner is on. Signal for anything that is not a car radio sucks I am on the southwest side close to the loop and the tuner with a junky antenna can not get pick up the station. I am using a Trek amplified antenna and I pick it up just fine. I also have a Grunding portable radio and it can not get a good clear signal it pick it up with a lot of static. if the station fails in 2 yrs one the main reason is the signal sucks cheap radios can not even get the signal.

That's interesting, I have an old boombox on the back patio, with a dial (no digital read out) and can pick up Boom! with little effort. This is also with KUHA two doors down the dial, and within fairly close proximity of my home, just north of the North Belt. Of course, the farther south you go the better Boom! comes in, but it still puts a very serviceable signal up here on the north end, in the car units, or any of the three home receivers. It actually doesn't sound as murky as it did in News 92's mono output, to me.

One thing I have noticed like 5 tracks they are playing these really weird crappy remix versions

This is their 60dbU contour (usually good for car radios or outside radios..inside table tops may have reception issues at the circle) from the current licensed main site: https://maps.google.com/maps?q=http...ABROOK&state=TX.kml&output=classic&dg=feature

So the station continues to have the coverage problems that it had as News 92 FM.

Maybe this will be remedied by CBS when they buy Boom and switch it to classic hits, since the 'Boom' registration belongs to them.

Using that map, I am basically underneath the line at the top of the circle. That map appears to be pretty spot on, with respect to the real world application of KROI's signal. Around FM 1960 is about as far as the actual signal is still reliable in a standard car unit; I can't verify how a home receiver would fare that far north, but it's pretty safe to say it would be nearly impossible for a basic run of the mill listener to tune in.

Who said CBS is buying KROI? That sounds far fetched, at best! They need to fix the mess at KILT-FM, and figure out where Hot 95-7 ends and Mix 96-5 begins, prior to any other acquisitions being entertained. CBS has not shown they are capable of maintaining a successful cluster with what they've currently got, let alone attempting to add another facility to it.

First-time poster, long-time lurker on this board and the old Radio-Info board.
I'm not in the industry and never have been, just a fan of this medium of broadcasting we call radio. :)
I'm excited for this new radio station as I fit the target demographic (I'm in my early 30s) and having been longing for a station like this.
I would like a little more classic R&B from the 90s thrown in as well, but I realize that would step on Majic's toes a bit.
In terms of the negativity on here regarding the flip, get over it.
No, there's no oldies station here because there's no real market for it.
I enjoy classic rock and pop music from the 70s and 80s as much as the next person, but that's what I have my iPod for.
I have noticed the playlist is already becoming a bit repetitive and I've heard songs like Baby Bash "Sugar Sugar" that I really never cared for.
Hopefully, once they get on-air jocks and a PD (if they don't have one already) the playlist will improve.
This station won't last forever, but I'll enjoy it while it's here.

I totally agree they need a min of 2500 to 3500 tracks in the total playlist once the station goes online and some more R&B for 1986 to 1999. Another thing is this station need to get about another 250 to 350 tracks from Houston artist I could help them with that. Currently the playlist is like 70 to 80 tracks way to low

You must be joking.

The signal is OK. Shouting black men is not my cup of tea - not my demographic so it doesn't make my presets. I wonder if there are enough fans of the format for the station to make a go of it. Thank goodness they aren't running HD, so I still have a clear signal from 92.3.

How long would it take to spin through 2,500 to 3,000 singles?? With commercials, Disc Jockey banter, etc., it'd take nearly a month to hear the same song played twice. I don't know about you, DJ, but I can't imagine many people sticking around for something that wide.

Goodness, my flea power only has 1,100 tracks in total and that takes 4 days before a song repeats, without any commercials and extremely limited banter.

I am talking about total not play in a row like the main rotation would be more like 300 tracks

I luv this station plays all my favorite jams from back in the day...Glad we got something like this here in Houston, the signal is great where I'm at over here in Pearland. I am part of the demographic (age 30-50) this station caters to so it fits me great. Hope this station doesn't change.

I heard Geto Boys Mind Playing Trick On Me twice in 12 1/2 hrs not good. The main rotation is 70 to 80 tracks currently should be 300. I have heard 3 artist in there promos that they still have not played onr track from. First 30 hrs the station seemed pretty good last 48 hrs they are playing tracks way to often this is not a station playing stuff that is 3 yrs or newer that needs to play the same track 3 or 4 times a day.
