Boortz returns to Pittsburgh

No, I would call the radio show a thing.

So, how many angels can dance on the head of a pin?

Well, just as I'd trade Boortz for Limbaugh any day- I would also NEVER trade Boortz for Clark Howard.

Even if you wanted to go left- you've picked up Hartmann. The QUALITY of Boortz's show (and again, I'm not much of a Boortz fan) and the name recognition is so much greater, combined with the free pub- I just can't see why you'd make that trade.

Post Gazette: One possible candidate for McIntire's show is KDKA sister station WRKZ-FM. Former WDVE-FM host Scott Paulsen will be hosting a talk show there starting in April, when the non-compete clause in his contract expires.

Scott Paulsen, O & A, Kidd Chris, and possibly McIntire. I think something may change at WRKZ. What it might change into, I have no idea. Eric O'Brien of PBRTV is wondering if WRKZ might become another FM News Talker. I would be with him on that, though I couldn't see Paulsen talking politics. And if it became FreeFM, I couldn't see Mcintire not talking politics.

As for Cullen, I like her (though I don't always agree with her) but I agree with a lot of you that she seems tired, and worn out and grumpy. Though I guess her ratings are still good. But if I were management at WPTT I would consider someone a little more fresh and upbeat to possibly succeed Cullen if she ever decided to hang it up. I was hoping they would have given McIntire a chance when he subbed for Lynn when she went on sabbatical but I guess not. By the way, Tom Hartman was brought in to WPTT after the station used his show to fill in for Lynn Mon-Wed when she went on sabbatical and after she came back listeners requested his show on the station. I think he is rather boring.

I am not arguing it was a smart move, just the reason they did it. And true, Hartmann was first used as a sub for Lynn when she was on sabbatical, afterwards he was moved into the old Michael Reagan slot, and subsequently moved again when the Boortz/Howard thing happened.

Actually Westwood One is jamming O'Reilly down KD's throat. Truth be known all involved should just walk away from the show and let someone else clear the wreckage.

So....is Gary Dickson still there? Haven't been able to listen to the station for a while. I never have been able to get their streaming audio to work on my 'puter.

I can't resist...

'Realist', I've read quite a few of your posts. I think you're a very smart person. Logical, non-emotional about the biz. I respect your candor. And with over 1800 posts, it's evident you have a lot to say. But when I read the exchange between you & 'fromtheinsideout' (and countless others), I can't help but chuckle...

'fromtheinsideout' is throwing out data & history, and even making reference to Arbitron numbers. You're just coming to the table with one thing: Opinion.

Hey, maybe that's what these boards are all about, and I don't appreciate their true nature. Maybe. But I'd bet there are a lot of guys on this board who would rather here inside scoop than dismissive opinion. Personally, I wish 'fromtheinsideout' had the 1800+ posts. But he probably doesn't have time. Too busy.

Hey, maybe that's what these boards are all about, and I don't appreciate their true nature.

That is an accurate statement. There are different venues for different things. If you want just insider information and facts, there are many, many blogs out there for just that content. Forums like this are for discussion of those facts. In other words, for presenting opinions based on the facts and interpretations of what the facts actually mean.

Anyone can cut and paste Arbitron numbers (except in here, where that's against the rules). The discussion comes with using one's experience, both from the industry and from life itself, to attempt to explain and understand why the results are what they are.

For example, a perpetual topic in some radio boards has been over whether its better to be live and local, or to carry a satellite feed, or to split the difference with remote-recorded voice tracking. One can repeat the facts about which option beat the other in one town or another, but what really matters are the observations on why one option might work over another and when one is preferable and when the other is preferable. And such discussions are mostly opinion.
