Boston's WRKO-AM 680 to Debut The Grace Curley Show

Before falling victim to one of the IHEART layoffs,Jarred was the Assistant Program Director and fill in producer for Crazy Kuhner at RKO.

After graduating from Bob Jones University the ultra right wing religious college in South Carolina, Graham worked as a stand up comic and political consultant before finding success as a talk show host. Graham managed Pat Buchanan's run for President in 1992.

Enjoyed a brief blast from the past this morning as Jeff Katz host the Glenn Beck show

apparently she's filling in for howie this week. I lasted about 12 1/2 minutes, Can't say I didn't try.

Especially remembering back to the RKO days, I think she did a good job as a guest host yesterday.

That said, it will be interesting to see how she transitions from being a supporting character to the lead. I think she will need to develop her own brand in order to make the 12-3 show work.

I didn't realize she was filling in....didn't listen yesterday, chose to listen to fill in for hannity.....turned on howie today and as soon as I heard her voice saying she was filling in, that was it for me!

She's dropped the balloonhead persona this week; I think she used to ham that up as a supporting member for entertainment purposes.

The monologues seem to drag on a bit, but she's been handling the interviews quite well. They get decent guests, she asks decent questions, and she lets them speak.

Howie used to have an intern named Trish (or "Mish" at times) who played a ditzy headed girl. They'd do "stump Trish".She later moved to another part of the country. But her voice is still heard in the Chumpline tag at the end: "That was your last message.Thank you for calling Howie Carr...you chump!"

Heard Grace say today that her show would indeed be on several Binnie stations in NH including WEMJ 1490/107.3 Laconia. Various sources online say the station now simulcasts
WJYY with music, but is a flip to news-talk coming? Two months ago it was said Binnie hired Jack Heath to be on its news-talk stations
including WEMJ, 9 to noon. Now add Curley's show.

I noticed they've said WEMJ a few times as well. Last I knew, it was playing pop music, but perhaps they'll change it over next month? It's a weak signal, but it does cover a portion of the I-93 corridor.

Jack Heath had a syndicated weekend show on Howie Carr's "network" following the demise of the Curt Schilling Show. I wonder if they still have some sort of relationship?

Should be interesting to see how Curley's show does. I don't think they're going after the Rush audience with it. She seems to work well with advertisers, which seems like an important component in that model. If they can appeal to a different market than Howie (while maintaining some overlap) and attract advertisers with that, then it may be able to open a new lane, even if it doesn't have strong ratings.

If news/talk WRKO hired Grace Curley to reach a younger demographic, IHeart should also move WRKO to a poor performing FM signal, which is what WPRO in Providence does. Moving to FM would also solve the reception problem for listeners west of Boston. 'WRKO FM'.

iHeart has WBWL 101.7, WZLX 100.7, WKAF 97.7, WJMN 94.5 and WXKS-FM 107.9. Unless
they wanted to sacrifice 94.5 or 97.7...Kiss and
ZLX would not be likely and they may make half
decent money with country on 101.7....not
sure how cost effective it would be to give up
94.5 or 97.7.
No "FM translators".
Beasley ran FM talk on 96.9, 1999-2012 with
the "Hot" format launching the first week of '13.

Howie has Worcester affiliate WCRN 830.
Also, for those who have trouble getting WRKO (in the car etc)---"there's an app for that"--one which they plug
constantly.

I've tuned into this show for a few segments most days and have found it to be decent. She's a good interviewer and seems to be developing a flow.

Grace is doing just fine in my opinion.
But my listenership depends on if I can get Rush, or if Rush is actually on.

Howie has had some talented help since he went independent.

He has come a long way since the days of Butchie, Trish and a sophomoric Virgin Boy.

RKO is still running promos in the overnight hours that include VB. The fact that they share a PD with BZ and I believe the RKO Assistant PD position was eliminated shows.

I lasted about 3 minutes after tuning into the new guy at 10:00pm. I like to listen to the radio when going to sleep so I am now trying to get to bed before 11 so I can listen to Dan Rea. I also have to set the alarm since I don't have the sound of Crazy Kuhner in the morning which is incentive enough to get out of bed and turn on the TV in the morning.

Yeah, not a fan of that guy either. I've been listening to WROR, or audiobooks when I go to bed. It took me about a month to get through Connecticut Yankee, I would fall asleep 10 minutes into the book.

I've listened to Grace a few times when I've been in the car between 1-3 and I have no other Pags podcasts to catch up on... She wasn't horrible, certainly better than when I first listened. I wouldn't be able to get through 3 hours of it, though.

I am going to have to start listening to John Batchelor online via WABC or PRO. Dan Rae is fine one night a week but that one night goes a long way. Not that Rae was ever mellow but the older he gets the nastier he gets.

Good thought about WABC (can't bring myself to listen to WPRO any longer, the hosts are insufferable kissasses to local politicians) and Batchelor's program. I may start doing that. I actually learn stuff listening to him, even though his delivery is drier than a martini and always knocks me out faster than propofol.
