This past Thursday Kuhner said his goal this year is to take his show National. He mentioned that IHEART is the largest owner of radio stations in the country. Which begs the question why haven't they added him to any of their talk stations.
Krazy K00nah's been saying he's "GOING NATIONAL" for years. He used to have a promo of a caller saying "I can't wait till you go national!" which ran for, oh, had to be a year or so before they relegated it to the dust bin. It's become more of an "inside joke" now between Tired and I, who both were listeners back in those days.
While currently the majority of Kuhner's show focuses on national stuff due to the election, enough local politics creeps in. He would have to cut all of that out. Someone in Bumpork, IL isn't going to know who Charlie Parker is.
To be fair, in a sense, his show is already "national", with internet streaming. He does get callers from around the country, if not from around the world (he's had callers from Israel and Italy).
A caller was making reference to a theory that Dominion Software was storing election results in the Cloud. After the caller hung up Kuhner said I have no idea what he ment by the Cloud.
Likely playing stupid so he doesn't get sued for a billion dollars as well.
Kuhner has being doing his program from his basement for months. This makes following the format clock very difficult for him.
Help a non-industry person out... why does location make a difference? A clock is a clock, right? If you know you have to break at 15 seconds before the top of the hour, how hard is it to have a clock somewhere synced to the USNO and shows you the time in HH:MM:SS format?
Doing his program from his basement is likely the "new normal" for him.
My wife works for an accounting firm in the Boston area as an IT auditor. The firm is going to be downsizing their office footprint going forward and have people to work from home. The days of going into the office to work are coming to a close. They will continue to have an office footprint for meetings with clients, etc., but gone are the days of the "cube farm" of accountants sitting around working on spreadsheets. She has an interview later this week with the hiring VPs at a firm in NYC for a position which is 100% remote work with occasional travel to client sites.
In the past year, I think I've been in my office a dozen times.
I believe you're going to see a lot of similar situations with businesses that do not require direct interaction with customers at a point of presence. This will allow companies to downsize their facilities footprint and associated fixed overhead costs (like paying for a huge internet pipeline, electricity, etc.) and 'offload' those expenses to their employees.
Why does RKO even need a studio in Boston at this point? Kuhner is their only "local" show AFAIK (do the finance dudes @ 10am use an RKO studio or do they pipe in their feed from a remote location like Howie?) If Kuhner is their only local show, why pay for the overhead of a studio when he can be hunkered down in his basement?
