Boston's WRKO-AM 680 to Debut The Grace Curley Show

A few points here, if y'all don't mind; apologies if this is not news and/or is blatantly obvious to some of you.

Before 'BZ moved to Medford in Aug 2018, Kuhner had Dan Rea on one afternoon as a caller. Kuhner made a big deal out of the fact that he and Dan were going to be using the exact same studio for their respective shows. (I had the impression Dan might have been underwhelmed by this notion.) I suspect that's how things hummed along until the pandemic, when air talent at 'BZ and 'RKO started working from home.

I just wish some of the AoIP links from the homes of the 'BZ traffic reporters, AccuWeather folks, Bloomberg reporters, and news anchors had better audio quality. The frequency response and dynamic range are now so restricted the audio no longer sounds "professional" but downright cheap. (Yeah, I know it's only "voice", but still...) I tuned in Dan one evening last week; it sounded as if he was broadcasting over his cell phone. We frequently hear on these boards that Howie Carr has been "phoning it in for a while", and dang, it's actually come to pass, if not for him specifically, then for lots of others!

The Financial Exchange, going back at least eight years to 2013, has been originating from their Needham headquarters. Michael Graham used TFE's facilities, as did Howie immediately after his big break from Entercom in 2014.

Gentlemen,
Please remember that WRKO continues to be a top 10 station, enjoying the best ratings it has had in a long time. I know it has older and undesirable age demographics but Jeff in the morning and Howie in the afternoon is why the station is doing relatively well for a talk station. Hard to provide a fact based argument on Jeff’s success. Like Howie, he should keep doing exactly what is making him successful. Same with Howie.

This past Thursday Kuhner said his goal this year is to take his show National. He mentioned that IHEART is the largest owner of radio stations in the country. Which begs the question why haven't they added him to any of their talk stations.
kuhner has been "going national" for at least six years and he's still not "national" in the sense that his show is over the air not streamed.

It's become more of an "inside joke" now between Tired and I, who both were listeners back in those days.
Waaaaaaaay back ...when kuhner first came to Boston he had an hour show from 11 to noon and he was riveting, hard to believe based on what he's evolved into now, back then there wasn't any time for stupid voices, hysterical laughter or name calling, AND, he actually did show prep back then.

When RKO got rid of the morning show they put kuhner on from 6 to 9, then the financial guy from 9 to 11 and then kuhner again from 11 to noon. When they rearranged the schedule to put kuhner on from 6 to 10 that's when he started going off the rails, stupid voices, hysterical laughter, name calling, no show prep, back in IIRC it was July 2015 RKO moved him to noon to three, that's when he started the "we're going national baaaaybeeee" nonsense..he said RKO told him if his ratings were up by the end of December, he'd "go national"......on his last day doing the 6 to 10 show he apologized to his audience for not doing show prep and actually blamed it on his "bambanos", SMH, he threw his kids under the bus and said when he goes noon to three he PROMISED he would give 100 percent......while doing the noon to three slot he used to constantly complain that he needed an extra hour (because he wasted the other three with hysterical laughter, name calling and stupid voices.) I listened to him in the noon to three slot for about a month give or take and it was obvious he still wasn't doing show prep and his stupid voices etc. were using up more and more of his time.

The program director said that kuhner's ratings in the noon to three slot where higher than Rush's...I LMAO...I found that difficult to believe, limbaugh has about 3 million+ listeners a day, I seriously doubt kuhner had or even has to this day, millions of listeners every day...I haven't listened since 2015. And....speaking of limbaugh....he's fighting lung cancer and hasn't been on the air since February 2nd.....

Please explain why Jeff’s ratings are the best WRKO has had in many, many years?

Kuhner's ratings is like being the biggest banana in the strawberry patch. His 55+ plus numbers are good and if you sell dentures, erectile dysfunction, retirement or home improvement products his loyal audience is an efficient buy. I can tell you for a fact that his show is not sold on ratings. For listeners looking for hard right wing content in the morning that is light on facts and heavy on conspiracy theories to confirm your beliefs Kuhner is one of your only options.

I have a press release from 2010 that Kuhner issued saying he planned to take his show national. Kuhner hopes Trump starts his own Trump TV Network along with a national newspaper because newspapers are doing so well these days and Kuhner could run his column in this Trump national newspaper rather than having to beg people to read it on the RKO page or in the Boston Broadside. Kuhner actually urged people top go to the WRKO site to read his column before Google and Facebook takes it down.

AND...let's not forget....Trump's people listen to his show...LMAO.....I don't recall kuhner flying on Trump's plane (like howie did), I don't recall kuhner opening for Trump in NH (like howie did), and I don't recall reading that kuhner had dinner with Trump at Mar a Lago (like howie has, multiple times) this weekend most recent dinner.

Kuhner also said back in 2016 that he told both the Trump and Cruz campaign that he was not interested in joining their administrations. Just before this years election he said he was feeling tremendous pressure to join Trumps staff in his second term. Where this pressure came from is anybody's guess.

Kuhner also said two weeks ago that his Executive Producer Nancy "Sandy" Shack spent many years working on Capital Hill before getting into radio. I remember Shack producing for Dick Syatt and Jerry Williams back in the late 80's. Considering she was in College and Law School at BC in the 80's she must be a lot older that I thought if she also spent many years working on Capital Hill. Or Kuhner was lying.

BTW, Shack's law license was suspended for failure to register with the Board of Bar Overseers.

Obit for her dad:"Tom practiced political diplomacy, international litigation, and communications law for more than 50 years. Before Lynne's death in 2012, they resided in Bethesda, Maryland with vacation homes in Sarasota, Florida and Centerville, Massachusetts. ...He is survived by his daughter Nancy Jo McKinstry Shack and son-in-law Rod Morrison"

She had mentioned living in and/or working in
the DC/VA area before

She might have been a waitress at the Hawk & Dove, a bar across the street from the capitol. That would qualify.

Not possible for Limbaugh to have 3 million listeners a day in Boston. Best estimate might be 800K.
1200 AM has a cume of 47,000 persons and the AQH in middays is 3,300.

Speaking of Grace Curley, I haven’t seen a column from her the last two weekends in the Herald. She had been writing a weekly opinion column.
I think walking and chewing gum is a challenge, I can't imagine hosting a show and writing a column at the same time is possible.

Yes ... but wouldn't you know it has devolved into another "we cannot stand Kuhner yet we listen to him every day to report on everything he does and says" thread.
PLEASE NOTE: FOR THE RECORD, I DO NOT LISTEN TO KUHNER, REPEAT, I DO NOT LISTEN TO KUHNER, CAN'T STAND THE MAN.
