Yes, people delivering the news may sometimes be there as much for their looks as anything else. That said, being an attractive person does not automatically negate one’s abilities, and to dismiss someone solely because they are attractive and on TV is every bit as superficial and shallow as putting someone without talent on the air because they look good—and it is a credit to organizations that don’t cast aside older staffers simply because their looks have diminished.
Many of us (collectively) respond more to attractive people. Such is life. I happen to be extremely unattractive (ok, ugly), and even if I was the greatest journalist the world had ever seen, I wouldn’t belong on any TV station, anywhere. I’m not bitter that people who hit the genetic lottery have certain doors open to them that I don’t. I have my own God-given attributes, and choose to use those to the best of my ability.
