Holladay's got the cash to fix all the towers in AL. But, you are right about those add-on expenses. Actually, I bought a station
years ago that cost more to maintain and rebuild than the license itself. Strong and painful lesson learned. Explains why it was
so "cheap." Still probably only worth $500,000, but whose counting???

He will be counting very soon. Yeah, for everyone except Holladay and Woof 450-500K is about all you could afford to pay and come out right side up anytime soon. To TRP and Woof it'd be worth much more if you wanted to gain more market control and share (expecting to sell in the next 5-7 yrs).

But let us count a little on our own here right now, 1.1M for RJM, 1M for tower "fixes" and to move the studios (oh yes they will), that adds to 2.1M. Now let us add in on air salaries from the folks downtown in the process of moving from the clouds to the burbs......120-140K(?), now the number is 2.24M for rebuilds and staffing. If you've got the cash on hand (and Holladay does) it makes sense strategically and economically........especially after you whittle down or OUT some salaries (which will happen). I still say the biggest and most hurtful loss for Magic is the number one sales person in the cluster going to TRP (didn't count that in the costs 'cause sales pay for themselves).

Rick and Bubba now on 95.5 wtvyfm . that was the news at 5:20 boy i was hopeing for Don Day

May get your wish for Don back in the market. Don was at Woof long ago, TSU grad, etc. TRP just bought RJM (news talker) but I expect that format to change and the news to go to 105.3 where Don may appear (remember he was in Mont as long as Holladay was). Further, rumor is that TRP will have three countries in the market.....smoke screen.

Oh yeah, I think credit goes to Preem for first telling me it would be R&B (maybe it was phr8 or p-rox). It does follow the "saving us into a profit" cheep channel mind set to leave R&B on the big stick.

As mentioned by Herbert in the Dune series many times, "there are wheels turning within wheels turning within wheels" in the dothan market right now. There is lots of bitterness, lots of hopefullness, lots of expectation from Magic for the "new" start, TRP bringing Ammie back (she was there before going to TVY), and all the players involved on all sides. Also, we mustn't forget the entertainment value that 192 is providing for the rest of the industry and to hopefully provide more for the audience, I offer you the lyrics of a song. They apply several ways simultaniously to all involved. They are at once, lament, thankfullness and caution. Don't know if these will be as accurate (especially last verse) an allusion as the words from Elegy On The Death Of a Mad Dog might turn out to be, but here goes, hope you enjoy:

All I ever wanted to be was a wooly muffler round your naked neck
Double wrap me when it's cold
But you pulled a little tight just now
And I'm afraid I feel a choke hold comin' on
Yeah, I'm afraid I feel a choke hold coming on.

All I ever thought it would come to was second dates and flirting eyebrows
Or maybe even phsychic friends and we could use a secret language
And almost definately make more of it than it was
But everyone around us would know, everyone watching would know.

This is not a walk with walking wounded
Here's the ball, here's the pole
where's the tether, where's the tether
Hands can't grow together if your not tethered together for whatever
And I never cared much too much to begin with.

I will not take your possibilities under my care
I will not see you on the bus
You want me to hold your hand
It's a courtship I can't stand
And here I thought you were crying
Because you were happy, but no.

Friends will turn against you
People dissapoint you every time
So if you've got greatness in you
Then do us a favor and keep it to yourself.

A labored ex-pat fantasy
Quit your job and move away with me
Oh what bliss it would be
to pretend that we never met
I'm elated now, elated now.

Song - Wooly Muffler; Artist - Harvey Danger; CD - Where Have All The Merrymakers Gone

Good literature means many things to many people of differing circumstances simultaniously. Sorry about all the mis-spelled words, don't feel like correcting, have at it!

what now? automation city?!

as we don't have enough of that. Are there still jocks there? The signal is weak here. (due to 95.7 QRM)

I see they have RICK AND BUBBA. So much for morning (local) shows.
Last I checked, they had a local jocks when we had strong morning tropo.

RICK & BUBBA on mornings, trying to replace a LIVE, LOCAL "community-oriented" morning show, whether you like them or not, POLLARD & K.C.will DOMINATE again, BIG MIKE CASEY replaced with the co-host of the KMX morning show, K.V.D. against a tremndous talent like DAVID SOMMERS, Wild Bill up against Miss ELIZABETH?! You have got to be kidding? Also the fact KATO from ISLAND 106 on KMX, Jenn Wilde replacing the TARD that was there for 10 years on 97X is just how TRAGIC is cheating everyone, especially the listeners. I suppose the only way to make your "bottom line' look better when you can't bill anything is TRIM all the salaries you can and work those you do have to DEATH. To think in 2005, you had "Double-Digit" stations on all I have mentioned. The mighty falling so far is TRAGIC, they wouldn't have it any other way.

Best wishes to Amie Pollard. K.C., Big Mike, David Sommers, Miss Elizabeth, may all of you have a VICTORY PARTY from HELL when you slaughter the downtown Country station. Maybe I will don the "LATEX MASK" on his head again and come raise some hell with you!

By the way, one more thing, I want to personally apologiize to Stewy and Tibbs2 for any negative comments I may have posted on here and I am a fan of you guys. You all know who I really am.

The "OLD MAN" has spoken

Accepted though not necessary. I understand that sometimes the things to which I allude take the fullness of time for realization and may be easily misconstrued.

There are way too many instances to quote on this thread, where everyone seems to still follow the queen. I have a question. Before I ask it, let me give this background. I HAVE worked with her, I saw her firsthand backstabbing, (YES, even her defenders on here have a dagger in their back placed by her), I saw her create "community-oriented" events only if it made her look good, I saw her create a panic...the list goes on. My question is WHY? Why do so many people follow her? Am I missing something?

Thank you Stewy! It is so amusing in ways as I saw how dominating the PC and Dothan clusters were under the Styles Media banner. I even told my current employer that if things had never changed, I would have left there. I love Dothan and truly miss it If The BIG DAWG, 937 WRJM, ROCK 1025, anyone ever needs someone, I would be there to help Jess Bailey, Amie Pollard, Big Mike, David Sommers, Miss Elizabeth, Brett, Misty, Skip, Frogman, whatever I could do to help those guys, they can count on the "OLD MAN". But, the sad thing is, the TRAGIC bunch has already destroyed not one but TWO great clusters. At least of us, mostly former Styles Media alumi have moved on and didn't have to lift a finger, all we had to do was sit back and laugh! Good luck to all the aforementioned and I hope our paths cross again.

Yes, you're missing the fact that she's harmless.

Lets see... the listeners love her (check the numbers), the advertisers love her (check the dollars), the non-profit community loves her (check who they go to first), even the politicians love her (check where they would love to be on the day before an election in Dothan)... It seems to me that the only ones that don't like her are people in the business! I only did a little work in Dothan but I witnessed her work, her devotion, and her emotional contact with her audience. I have not seen very many like it. (Moby here in Atlanta and thank goodness on my station!) If you don't think she and the crew were that important, just watch what happens to her old station and her new one. I'm betting she is on a 100K country station within a very short time.

BTW... Not only was the programming walkouts a big deal... but the hidden gem in the entire thing was the sales diva that went with her. The two of them work great together and will bring tons of dollars with them when they walk in the door. I worked with her and saw how she could sell. Wish I could get her to move here.

Anyway... it sure is fun watching all this happening. If I could take the time off I would drive to Dothan, get a hotel room, and just watch and listen for the next few weeks. I guess I'll just have to keep coming to this board to keep up.

"listeners love her (check the numbers)" I just did and in the Money Demo she was not number one in A.M. Drive.

"the advertisers love her (check the dollars)" Hmmmm that's why the commercial breaks were only 1.5 - 2 mins long with hardly any local in the set.

"the non-profit community loves her (check who they go to first)" Amie will only do for the things she can benefit from which is very little.

And yes you are right Pnut she does do the backstabbing thing just ask David Sommers about when she first came to TVY and while he was at DJR how she constantly wanted to be on the air.

I've been a broadcaster in Oklahoma for a long, long time, and it has been my experience that when people do their walk outs, they are "heroes" for a week and unemployed for six months or longer. All of this makes interesting drama, but it will have marginal effect on the radio station. They will voicetrack it, or find people willing to fill in. The only people who will really be hurt are the "walkers." Don't let this sort of thing become a habit. You might get by with it once because you were truly wronged in your work situation, but be careful with this sort of thing. Sitting here in Oklahoma I don't know your circumstances, but you must, you must, protect your career and reputation in the business climate of radio today. It is too easy for owners to track the shows or put it on satellite.
Take care, people. Protect your job.

Radio55, I have to disagree with you. The people that walked were part of the community and still are, the listeners and advertisers are family and lifetime friends. Radio in markets this size are based strictly on relationships, there are no more big National and Regional budgets, local sales and relationships are key. Amongst many other things, they were told to "kiss up or lose the job". So they walked. Watch the fall..it will take a few months... the station will never again be what it was. The people that walked will be taken care of. This was not a knee jerk "be a hero" act, they formed a plan to protect their future.

I find it very amusing that you morons are arguing about radio in DOTHAN ALABAMA! Let’s shoot for the stars!!!

Market 193…LMAO

:D

Just to clarify, and I'm by no means entering into this rumorfest. I just like things to be factually accurate.

I have been on mornings in this market the last 3 books.

Most recent we were 2nd to them by a small margin in the demo
2nd most recent we were beaten pretty handily in the demo
3rd most recent we were the #1 show in the market by a wide margin in the demo

So I don't know where all this talk of domination comes from, I just thought I would
set the actual numbers right on here.

Best wishes to everyone in this market who is in radio. It is a diffucult but rewarding
job and I hope every succeeds and continues to be employed. I like most everyone
in this market and wish them all nothing but the best.

Well whatever happens I wish all the guys that were at 955 the best of luck I know you will do well. Brett and Misty have a great show Amie and KC have a great show.

If Clay Holiday is adding the former 955 crew into his already great staff then its a win win situation for TRP.

If you guys ever do another Urban or CHR Holla at ya boy ;)

The Shady Nation

I do not find rick and bubba amusing. Guess it's a "southern" thing.

Despite the fact, I think radio is going downhill and fast. you folks who work in this field are probably more hard working then the station owners who sit on their ass all day trying to determine what to "cut" too boost their "ratings"

Radio is a business the business is ENTERTAINMENT.

I know PD's read this and.. I got one word for you guys especially in the NWF and SW alabama areas..
LOCAL JOCKS.

Down here, our WWAV went to an all automated format. great music but no flair. I miss radio from the (late) 70s and 80s.

Look up KPIG on the web, they have local in studio jocks 24/7 and, I think it's the #1 station in Freedom, CA.

This is just some of the best stuff I've ever read...... I vote we all start calling Dothan "Swingtown"

wow

Ah, Dothan. How you entertain us all with your stories of backstabbing and collusion. I guess history does repeat itself :p

Anyway, Anyone else think maybe the big winner this next book may be WOOF?
