Look up KPIG on the web, they have local in studio jocks 24/7 and, I think it's the #1 station in Freedom, CA.-Rob

Freedom is their COL...part of Monterey, CA market...where they are #6 12+
personally, I think they sound llike bad college radio...with a "smartest person in the room" attitude

Hello AttackPoodle,

Hopefully everyone will find an opportunity. It has just been my experience that many "radio people" tend to get too emotional about things and fly off the handle, stomping out of the studio. If this was a well thought out plan for these people, I wish them luck, but I would not want to be pegged with the "Oh, you're one of those guys/gals that walked out." It is still touchy territory.

Good luck to you all.

Hey Radio55

You are correct. Most of the time it is count to ten, write a letter hold on to it for a day before you mail it, I agree. Usually when conditions are so bad only a few leave and move on. The one in charge makes up some excuse as to why it is a good thing they are gone. Which is exactly what they are telling themselves now (I know from an insider)

For some reason in our industry the swill (in smaller markets) remains in management. Often they are rejects who were fired from their last job for some "not eligible for rehire" reason. Market 192 has had their share of doozies, stories that would make any owner shiver. But there is no budget for background checks, etc etc. Just fill the position so I won't have to bother. They have the "this new guy will do what I tell him to do" mentality. New guy gets the "gig" hires his buds and the dysfunction just moves to another poor unsuspecting market. It takes a few years but the same bad habits fester and the cycle starts all over..

All that said, the people who have bailed will never be "one of those guys that walked" rather "oh you were at THAT company, need not say anything else."

My heart goes out to sincere broadcasters who are in this business because they love it and want to do great things...if there was only a way to filter out the swill and send them to another industry.

Are we still discussing the “brilliant” and “compelling” radio of the booming metropolis known as Dothan Alabama?

Ah, Dothan. How you entertain us all with your stories of backstabbing and collusion. I guess history does repeat itself :p

Anyway, Anyone else think maybe the big winner this next book may be WOOF?

whodouthinkur I agree I think WOOF will do good on this next book,as well as the one we are waiting to see the results on.
I have noticed the past few months at how full thier stop sets are compared to others, alot of local mixed with national which is good. WOOF is consistant from the Employees,Promotions,Etc to the Building they are in to the grass on the front lawn (you get the picture). Listeners and advertisers like consistancy

I am thinking WOOF will do well in the 18-34 demo this time because of all the changes in the last book at KMX.
DJR and WOOF should do well in thier core demo with TVY playing musical disk jockeys due to KC and Mike being out most of the Winter/Spring book. I think TVY will be a # 3 this time.

In defense of Magic, I think that using Rick & Bubba as a replacement for Pollard & KC is an excellent move. For two reasons: 1.) The company is bleeding red and Rick & Bubba is a cheap show to run, and 2.) Rick & Bubba are somewhat "hickish" and are a good fit for a country station...they fit their target demo well. (ex. WZZK Birmingham)

If someone in Dothan is planning a format change, they could just read these 1,000 posts on a loop until they flip to the real
format. This is certainly more entertaining than any radio in a long time.

Worst part, I actually agree with ROBFWB on his stance of local radio. WTH? I haven't listened to the Monterey, CA station,
though...sorry Romer, I can't play along until I check it out.

;D Tibbs, I was just thinking the EXACT same thing, then I saw your post!

Between Tragic, WJEP (on the Georgia forum) and Oldies 700, who even needs a format?
