That's not the point. You said there were less than 100 stations. I'm pointing out that you're wrong. Instead of just admitting it, you counter with "you can't hear them nationwide!"

OK...you can't hear XM in most buildings where you can hear HD. See, I can play that way too.

It will be shortly. How much were the XM radios when they first came out? Wasn't $30...that's for sure.

Again, come on back when you want to debate with facts. Otherwise, you're trolling about something you don't know a whole lot about.
______________

ok i meant in one market there arent many. ok there are almost 700 nationwide. still thats not many! i was wrong. i admit it. but you are wrong one something also. xm does work inside of buildings. i am listning in my house right now with no problems. the only building i have any trouble with is the one at work. a concrete and metal building.

the radios are fairly cheap. its the box that goes with it that makes the price so high. 269+250..thats not cheap. i am against hd because it will be the same crap thats on fm. 100 or 200 songs over and over again. with 20 minutes of commercials per hour. where will the metal hd stations be? all 60s? all 70s?
blues. all available on xm. not hd. and why else do i hate hd. because people like the NAB helped reduce the bandwith on xm so you people could brag aboout how good hd is. if xm had the same bandwith it would sound just as good. but it scared you so you petitioned and probably paid off the fcc to stop xm and sirius from sounding that good by cutting their bandwith
______________

You're right - I am incorrect for the most part with XM, at least in large cities.

XM uses ground based repeaters in several areas to help with in building coverage.

At any rate, you are correct. 700 is not many, but there are stations signing on with HD every day. This is still very new. I expect that you'll see that number doubling in the next year, and climbing for the next several. This is really the first "big year" of HD rollouts, and it's starting to gain momentum.

You'll also see the price of radios come down.

All I'm saying is don't be so quick to dismiss HD. I have an HD radio in the car, plus XM. I can tell you that the audio quality of HD blows XM out of the water. Just like XM hasn't killed FM, HD won't kill XM. It will simply force them to be better than they are now.
______________

ENOUGH! Unless you can prove those accusations, do not make them. That's simply immature, and what you state simply isn't true.

Second, did you not read the comment that most HD-2 channels will be commercial free (and will be VERY different from their FM counterparts)?

Listen, enjoy XM. I do. But don't think for a minute that XM is going to kill FM, or that FM has fought to stop XM. They will co-exist forever.

Plus, some people won't pay for what they can get for free.
______________

but the reason xm doesnt sound as good as hd is because of the NAB and FCC..they had to split the bandwith. they were both suppose to have what is allocated to both when this first came up in the mid 90s. i will support hd if it doesnt just copy fm radio. i am sick of whaty is on fm i have been since about 1996. fm is just awful now. i admit i listen to some terestial radio. 650 wsm nashville. 1130 kwkh shreveport. and i aircheck regularly. usually listning to each station for about 15 seconds to see if they have changed :)
______________

Well, I would direct you to research done by the FCC, and the companies who are actually implementing HD.

Yes, 50 miles is pushing it for HD reception, but just like anything else RF related, a good antenna will do wonders. I know I can often pick up the IBOC carriers (though I can't lock to them) in my car pretty far out from the transmitter. I could probably get a lock with a good antenna in those places.
______________

No, the reason XM doesn't sound as good is that they are trying to cram all of those channels into what bandwidth they were given.

If they stuck to 50 music channels, XM would sound great. Instead they try to cram hundreds of channels (including traffic) into their stream and hope nobody complains. Or they blame it on "the NAB".
______________

originally xm was suppose to be 100 channels. not 50. and yes the fcc is to blame. they cut the original bandwith from waht it was suppose to be in the late 90s.
______________

hd is not free. you have to buy a special receiver to get it. it cost you at the very least 300.00..so no its not free.
______________

No, I paid $285 for a full HD Receiver. Nothing else needed. Likewise with the $70 receiver, though that one is only HD1. As many others have told you, the price will come down and rather quickly I imagine.

I still dont understand why you are so hostile towards broadcast radio. So you dont like what is on radio. Other people do. If I want 40's and metal, I would play a CD. Most of what I listen to is radio. And I enjoy it too.

I find XM audio too harsh to listen to.

i am hostile to broadcast radio for several reasons. 1. the deregulation bill of 96 ruined radio. and btw at the time i thougt it would help it. 2. broadcast radio is hostilte towards sat radio as noted by the hatred spots being run by every radio station in the country for free. compliments of the NAB-the national arogant broadcasters. 3.my music is not on fm. so why listen to it.and the big 3 will never play it. because they cant sell it.

When I drove through Kenosha, I could pick up the following HD stations:

AM
WTMJ
WSCR
WBBM (though they have turned HD off for now)
WKSH

FM
WKKV
WKTI
WQBW
WMYX
WXXS (your favorite)
WJMK
WUSN
WNUA
WTMX

I am sure there are others, but I could not scan too much while driving. I have not tried HD2 yet.

My final thought on hd

HD is free. Free to receive. No subscription needed. To say otherwise is a straw-man argument.

I guess free TV isn't free either. Almost nothing is free by your definition. Fortunately, most everyone else can grasp the concept that you are otherwise missing.

And stop with the $300 radio argument. It has been proven to you that not only can you get a radio for under $300 if you try, but that there will be lots of under $300 in the very near future.
______________

but how many consumers are you going to convince to pay for another radio that they already have for free. they have to buy an expensive other radio to get what they alreay have for free. btw i checked there are 2 stations near here with hd. both in new orleans. and both are independant stations that harly anyone listens to. ok i will stop now.
______________
