Bye bye Indie. It was nice knowing you.

david indie as someone pointed out was a very niche format 4500 people at any given time well goes to show you even in los angeles just like my hometown of louisville ky people like the tried and true do not like listening to unfamaliar music plus as you know the 103.1 is abad signal but still as someone said the sound sould start adding some indie rock like vampire weekend and the like to get those listeners.4500 ain't alot but even asmall chucnk is something.

Then why was it 45th with an average of 4,500 persons listening at any time?

Lousy signal. I really want to see if the new Spanish format does any better considering their signal.

David, I am just curious to know, out of all the formats that have come and gone on the 103.1 signals, which one has been the highest rating? I realize that it is a pretty broad question, as each audience has been different to the previous, but as I said, I'm curious.

As for the comment about The Sound trying to take listeners, I can't see it happening. The Sound is a very "safe" (or boring) format. So it won't happen.

Finally, I am thinking that the down side of the Indie demise, will be the lack of diversity on LA Alt-radio playlist's.

Honestly, I can’t say that I’m surprised about the change at “Indie.” Personally, I think it should have happened a long time ago. I don’t think many people listened to that station, as seen in it’s ratings. But then again, I’m bias; I don’t think Alternative music makes for good radio. Personally, I say, goodbye and good riddance “Indie 103.1!”

However, with all the Spanish language stations the LA area has in general, I must question whether another Spanish language station is the magic trick that will cure the 103.1 signal’s ratings problems. I guess time will determine the answer to that question.

I Am Recording The Final Hours Of Indie 103.1 But The Siginal It Not The Best But It Has Little Static

It's the same few songs over and over again with that same message in between all of the songs.

El Gato (The Cat)? Kind of a strange name for a station.....

Oh well, spanish most likely comes back to 103.1.

Or....they could go back to dance ;D

Just kidding :D

Yet another Spanish language format for LA? Here in New York City, the percentage of Hispanics in the population (according to the New York Times) has actually *decreased* this decade, and the steep recesssion we're currently in will probably strengthen that trend, so does it make sense demographically even in Los Angeles to sign on yet another Spanish language format?

Hispanic Population NY MSA 1998 18.2%
Hispanic Population NY MSA 2008 20.9%

The Times, like almost all newspapers, tends to talk about cities and not metros. While NY and the boroughs may have declining Hispanic population, much of the change is because of the increased afflueance of the Hispanic consumer and a tendency to move to the suburbs.

With such a significant percentage of the NY Hispanic population being Puerto Rican, and the fact that recessions hit harder on the Island than on the mainland, where would that group go? They are already in their own country!

In LA, the Hispanic population is over 40%, and in 18-34, it is over 50%. Much of the growth is fueled by birts exceeding deaths, not immigration.

No more strange than The Eagle or Fox for and English station... La Pantera, Radio Lobo and such are common names for Spanish language stations.

Entravision has used the name in Dallas (where they sold their cluster) and just put a Gato on in El Paso about 10 days ago.

Great station, though it lost its way the last few years.

The "not playing the corporate radio game" voice sounds somewhat insincere, I must say. Kind of phoney. Quite annoying to have it replay so much. They should have made a nicer farewell collage, but maybe they didn't have time.

I think I'd like to thank the guys who did Feel My Heat, Rob Zombie and his great show, Henry Rollins and his wildly eclectic and daring show, the excellent Watusi Rodeo, the great morning show host Joe Escalante, and most of all Steve Jones. All "4500" of us Indie fans (at any one time according to Arbitron, LOL....) really appreciate it. It was really delightful, loose radio that lasted a lot longer than anyone expected.

I really hope Steve Jones either shows up on another station (I'd say KCRW but they are too conservative) or that they put him on the internet a few times a day like they used to.

I also think Indie made KROQ sound a little better. I doubt very seriously if KROQ would have ever played Modest Mouse, Death Cab For Cutie, Franz Ferdinand, Arcade Fire and many other bands had it not been for Indie.

The Sound needs to drop a lot of their classic rock music and move toward a younger end AAA sound.

Maybe the Sound will try to go "Alternative Gold," which is basically what Indie was doing during the last month or so.

I notice The Sound has dropped it's Wednesday album play idea.....

On a different topic, can the people running the online Indie put Watusi Rodeo back on?

When Is The Flip Going To Happen

IT Would Be Funny If They Go Dance Or Top 40 I Think It Will Go Spanish Before It Went Dance

They Need To Fix The Siginal Problem Plus When It Was Dance It Came In Perfect For Me And Now The Siginal Is Crap
And That Why There Rating Are Bad

All sign's point to a Mexican music format.

There are perhaps 20 kinds of Mexican music, ranging from rock to folk.

This is sort of like saying "An American music format..."

There is no signal problem. They are licensed as a pair of class A FMs, with limited power. That's all they will ever be.
