Oh abcboy, or girl, whatever you really are, I'll bet you are the champion of the people at E-com!! They probably make a special point to walk by your cubicle to high five you for your unbridled courage to take on the tough talkers of radio-info! Why I be Brent himself (unless this is Brent... Hmmmmmm?), probably even throws you a bit of restaurant trade for your valiant efforts. Before you run out to Lane Bryant and buy a black dress for the funeral of your country competitor, consider a few things..
1) Spring was a good book for PAW and bad for TQR, but Wi was good for TQR and bad for PAW, Fa was good for paw, bad for TQR... Anyone sensing a pattern here? If you've spent any amount of time in this business you'll look at metro's like Charlotte and realize some books will go TQR's way, some will go PAW's.. It will really boil down to how many books get into places like Alamance County where there's a clear geographic advantage for one station..
2) It's fun to spike the ball in the end zone when things go your way, but try not to sound like an idiot.. A couple tenths of a point these days could seperate number 2 from number 12 but it's still a few tenths of a point. And the real PAW success is in the slightly better TSL (with honorable mention to some dayparts where TQR is suffering). Ratings still show WTQR still has more ears tuning in but they simply aren't hanging around as long. While that's a problem, it's a better problem than your cume saying bye bye...
3) Your
client told you a TQR rep was dogging paw?
CLIENT??? Oh, I'm sure it was a close and personal friend too right?? Ya'll probably lay around in stretch pants and your favorite racecar driver t-shirts watching Lifetime on the weekend together..

First off, for cred-sake don't say a "client" told you... You think clients don't minipulate their reps?!? You think client's don't court more than one rep and dish to one about the other.. Rule of thumb Greenhorn, clients don't tell you the good stuff about TQR, only the bad and vice-versa.
Since you challenged Atticus to spill what clients he's heard comments from, I think it only fair that
you go first, since you brought it up and all.. I would LOVE to hear what you've heard from what clients? Since you brought it up and all...
4) Success is all relative these days. paw and legends could turn their transmitters off today and TQR would never enjoy the 12, 15, 20 shares they once had. For that matter TQR and legends could shut down their operation and paw would never see the likes of shares in that range either. The media world had changed over the last 10 years and I'm fairly confident most everyone gets that so try not to sprain your arm patting your own ars about paw's tenth of a point slaughter. :-*
There are 1.5 million people in the Triad and arb surveys 2,000 people to determine what stations are most listened too. Difference in number two and number 9 is 3 tenths of a point. Is TQR what it used to be? Nope. Is paw the next best thing? Not in the ear of this beholder but I wasn't one of the 2,000 they asked. ;D The interesting thing is TQR hasn't played all of their cards and paw has so we'll have to sit back and see what tricks TQR will pull out of their hat now that they know what their dealing with.
On a personal level abc, relax a bit... You do sound stressed and angry... Buy a big bag of Funions, take in a Valerie Burtonelli movie on Lifetime and forget about radio. You seem a bit drunk off the company kool-aid. Sober up and remember the next report card from our FAULTY rating company will be here in three months. I'm sure they'll dredge up another 2,000 people to keep
accurate minute by minute detailed station usage information. The country stations will trade licks here and there and it's going to be a long-long battle. I give credit where credit is due. paw has done a phenomenal job establishing themselves in this market and TQR was obviously not prepared for a competitor like paw. There's clear differences in the two stations but your average joe listeners will just flip back and fourth. I don't think however TQR is going to roll over and die and I think the early success of paw gives e-com the ammo to continue to battle. By the way, when I'm not a blogging programming expert I am an out of work announcer doing some underwear modeling on the side to make ends meet. Call me if you need some weekend partimers..
