CBS owned CW affiliates to drop CW affiliation and go independent

My guesses for where the CW goes in each market:
Philadelphia: WPHL 17 (Nexstar owned)
Atlanta: WPCH 17 or WATL 36
San Francisco: KRON 4 (Nexstar owned)
Seattle: KONG 16 or KZJO 22
Tampa-St. Petersburg: WTTA 38 (Nexstar owned)
Detroit: WMYD 20
Sacramento: KQCA 58 or a subchannel of KTXL 40 (KTXL is owned by Nexstar)
Pittsburgh: WPNT 22

My guesses...

Philly: WPHL 17 (your right. If so, MNT is gone in Philly.)
Atlanta: WANF 46 (Gray probably wants to give CBS up. They've hinted at dropping CBS since they've been giving it up on brandings and promotions, except for network ones. If so, WUPA becomes CBS. WATL will still be the home of MNT.)
San Francisco: KRON 4 (I'll give you that one as well. MNT goes away completely in the market.)
Seattle: KIRO 7 (Ironically enough, I say KIRO because they've done a news-intensive schedule before as a UPN affiliate. They can do the same as a CW affiliate with KSTW getting back CBS. MNT stays on KZJO.)
Tampa Bay: WTTA 38 (you're right about that too! If so, MNT goes away completely.)
Detroit: WMYD 20 or WADL 38 (It depends here. If WMYD gets it, WADL stays MNT. If WADL gets it, WMYD stays Indie, and MNT is gone completely.)
Sacramento: KTXL 40.2 (The Nexstar-owned factor matters here. MNT stays on KQCA.)
Pittsburgh: WPNT 22 (I believe you're right about this one too. I don't see WPGH giving up FOX. MNT is gone from Pittsburgh completely.)

Here's Nextstar's delimia with both KRON and WTTA: Their Prime-Time Newscasts are a cash cow with decent counter-programming ratings (The My Network TV hours air in the third shift in San Francisco and at 10pm in Tampa). If competition does come in September, does Nextstar throw in the towel right away, or do they have a go at CBS in these two markets, and demote the CW to a subchannel?

Wow...Seattle losing CW along with these other big markets. I guess we get to have "CW16" on KONG, or they try to entice Fox Television Stations to add CW to KZJO, Fox 13+. There is *NO WAY* KIRO is getting CW after the UPN craziness back in the mid-1990s.

I wonder if channel 11 will bring back the old "KSTWashington" branding?

Also KSTW's operations are run from the KPIX/KBCW offices. I wonder where this is going now that they are losing their affiliation.

Hearst does have CW in Orlando, Piedmont Triad, NW Arkansas, Portland Maine. maybe KQCA?

Actually, here's what I'm assuming from September 1,

Philadelphia:
3 - KYW (CBS)
6 - WPVI (ABC)
10 - WCAU (NBC)
17 - WPHL (CW/MyNetworkTV)
29 - WTXF (Fox)
57 - WPSG (Ind.)

Since WPHL airs MyNetworkTV programming, weeknights from 2am-4am, my guess is that they'll air The CW in it's recommended primetime slots, replacing syndicated reruns.

Atlanta:
2 - WSB (ABC)
5 - WAGA (Fox)
11 - WXIA (NBC)
17 - WPCH (CW)
36 - WATL (MyNetworkTV)
46 - WANF (CBS)
69 - WUPA (Ind.)

San Francisco:
2 - KTVU (Fox)
4 - KRON (CW)
5 - KPIX (CBS)
7 - KGO (ABC)
11 - KNTV (NBC)
36 - KICU (MyNetworkTV)
44 - KBCW (Ind.)*

Since KICU is owned by Fox, my guess is that KRON will drop MyNetworkTV in exchange for The CW, and KICU will pick up MyNetworkTV.

Seattle/Tacoma:
4 - KOMO (ABC)
5 - KING (NBC)
7 - KIRO (CBS)
11 - KSTW (Ind.)
13 - KCPQ (Fox)
16 - KONG (CW)
22 - KZJO (MyNetworkTV)

Since KZJO is owned by Fox, my guess is that KONG will more likely carry programming from The CW.

Tampa/St. Petersburg:
8 - WFLA (NBC)
10 - WTSP (CBS)
13 - WTVT (Fox)
28 - WFTS (ABC)
32 - WMOR (MyNetworkTV)
38 - WTTA (CW)
44 - WTOG (Ind.)

Detroit:
2 - WJBK (Fox)
4 - WDIV (NBC)
7 - WXYZ (ABC)
20 - WMYD (CW)
38 - WADL (MyNetworkTV)
50 - WKBD (Ind.)
62 - WWJ (CBS)

* = 44 might change it's call sign from KBCW back to KBHK.

So does Kansas City, Vermont, and Southern Maine. We'll see but at this point in time, I highly doubt it. I think Nexstar will take advantage of this and have The CW on a KTXL subchannel.

Actually, @itsTheRolyPoly

Philadelphia: I'm thinking WPHL 17 will keep the MyNetworkTV programming from 2am-4am, while the syndicated reruns from 8pm-10pm would be replaced by programming from The CW.
San Francisco: You're right, KRON 4 should be carrying programming from The CW, but I'm thinking MyNetworkTV would move to Fox-owned KICU.

The Paramount owned soon to be former CW affiliates would have to be renamed as CBS Bay Area +, CBS Sacramento +, CBS Pittsburgh+, given that they are used as extensions of the Primary CBS Affiliate in the area.

but for WUPA, WTOG, and KSTW not likely given that their primary CBS affiliate is owned by another party.

I totally forgot about KICU. Fair point. But also, KICU has never been outside Independent in its history so... I don't know.

Actually, I think Bay Area could be TV44 and Sacramento could be TV31. Pittsburgh will be more difficult to rename it.

The rest depends on what happens.

Yuck. They could of course, but they can carve out independent identities, too. WPSG in Philly could link to its Philly 57 identity, with no issues being where extra local news, or that pathetic excuse for a 10 pm newscast CBS rolled out nationally, live.

unless theres enough off net sitcoms and first run syndies available also Hearst does clear Liv Golf and KCCI and WLKY are the only Hearst own CBS stations, maybe they can swap it for Seattle station KSTW.

Hearst is not in the business to sell. Ever since selling WDTN and WNAC back in 1998, they have only sold once... KITV and its satellites back in 2015. That's a 25-year span. Hearst doesn't sell. Hell, they're buying WBBH and taking over WZVN LMA operations, which is Hearst's first purchase since 2018 (WPXT and WCWG).

they're also half owner of A+E and 20 percent owners of ESPN, I thought Disney would be an easy target?

What worked in past decades won't work anymore in this decade though. How to explain how this works in 2023 when CW Leaves stations like KMAX and KBCW is interesting to think of.
