They still count...for now. Unless and until Radio One buys it from Davis to take it dark so they can up 102.5's power.

Or to make use of a signal you paid for, simulcast 102.5 on it and you could do both... covering the northern counties!

Atlanta's Hispanic market is way too large to have only AM signals....... ???

Three possibilities:

#1.
CC is having trouble selling El Patron because CC is "pushing numbers" instead of "beating the streets".

#2.
Maybe Georgia's Illegal alien law (kinda like Arizonia's) is working.

#3
The local "depression" (last time I looked Atlanta's unemployment was worst the Detroit's!) has accomplished what #2 could not.

They're seeking people for El Patron right now...I don't think they will get rid of the format in Atlanta.

Maybe CC is going to put some effort in El Patron, based on Tropicanamedia's post. CC has made some "interesting" moves at the Atlanta cluster. (94.9 to country during Christmas, Taking 105.7 away from WGST, the whole 96 Rock mess.) I can not believe CC would let things get this bad. I will give CC credit for being patient with the Bull. With the success CC has had with CHR in major markets, and cheap PC available that they did not go CHR or Talk on 96.1. I personally would rather see a music format on 96.1 than talk but with the the ability to chip a few dollars away from WSB, I would not be surprised soon we will hear WGST AM FM Atlanta legal ID's.

I don't see see 96.1 going anywhere with it's current Active Rock format. No, it's not doing as well as other stations but for an active rock format, it's doing about average. Understand that Atlanta is a major metro area. If Atlanta drops it's active rock format, I would argue that Atlanta would be the only top 50 markets without an active rock station which just does not make sense.

My beef with Project is the same that I have with most Atlanta stations and that is too many repeats. They play the hell out of songs for about a year than kick them off the playlist forever. This reduces the playlist set. I don't know if that is an Atlanta problem or a big corp problem. CC, in my opinion, has an awful active rock format.

Note that the dj's on Project are also simulcast on other active rock stations including the Buzzard in Greensboro, NC, Rock 105 in Chattanooga and those are just the ones I have come across online. Check out the bio's of these stations and you will see what I am talking about. Almost seem like WKLS is the active rock headquarters for CC active rock stations across the eastern half of the country.

Which implies 96.1. I'm more expecting a return of the "WGST Atlanta/Canton" ID (not legal I know, should have been WGST Atlanta/WGST-FM Canton, but that's how they did it before), or "WGST Atlanta/Bowdon".

Or we could get the convoluted "WGST Atlanta/WGST-FM Canton/WWLG Peachtree City" with the occasional "W222AF Marietta" thrown in.

But it still beats the ear-grating "WCNN North Atlanta" ID. With the current incorporation effort going on for the Brookhaven area in DeKalb, maybe they could finally convince the FCC to let them change their legal ID to Brookhaven, a city that might actually come to exist (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brookhaven,_Georgia )

Talkers online:
Rumor: Strong FM Signal Coming for WGST, Atlanta. The Atlanta Journal Constitution’s Rodney Ho is reporting that Clear Channel may be moving toward a new FM simulcast situation for news/talk WGST, Atlanta. The station is currently simulcasting on a translator at 92.3 but the signal does not penetrate the northern suburbs of Atlanta. Ho reports Clear Channel is quietly cutting the staffing at Regional Mexican “El Patron” – WBZY-FM at 105.3 – possibly with plans to move the station to a different signal and simulcast WGST on the 105.3 frequency. Ho notes that WGST had an FM simulcast at 105.7 in the 1990s but that ended in 1999.

Side note: 92.3 was unlistenable all the way down I-85 to Spaghetti Junction today. You just lost about a third of the metro during drivetime.

I'm starting to wonder about all of this 'GST to FM talk. It's been going on forever and nothing has materialized. If nothing happens by Monday, I don't think it's gonna happen.

I don't know...we might be hearing spots soon for a major announcement coming.

If so, this weekend is the best time to tease it. I'd do the launch on Tuesday, personally, but what do I know. Would be a good way to start off a big election year.

What if 640AM and 105.3 swap? Except where 100.1 and 102.3 have coverage the listeners of Patron will "have no choice" but to go to AM. Could CC "save" most of Patron's revenue?

You know, I've thought about that. However, I don't know if such a flash swap would work - each station would need a week or so to advertise on-air that they're moving. Patron on 640/96.7 maybe? Hispanic formats still do decently on AM.

I drove to Chattanooga yesterday from Gwinnett and 92.3 really wasn't listenable until I hit PIB on the Perimeter. From I-285@GA 400 to the Marietta loop it was clear, but it went downhill quickly and was unlistenable again around the I-575 split.

We're really looking at a station that isn't very viable OTP...not much different than 640 at night.

You heard WDEF "Sunny 92.3", didn't you?

Yep...clear as a bell from Lake Allatoona northwards...maybe even around Chastain Road.

I can hear it in South Forsyth! "Clear as a Bell" is right!
