Changes at the Buzz 1057..

Another format change is on the horizon. Their change to compete with B95 has bombed. They are re-formatting soon. Glen Stacey has been let go due to budget cuts and another full timer is leaving as well. I was asked not to mention who, so in respect I won't. You'll find out soon enough.

Glen has irons in the fire. mmmm..

Thoughts??

I heard that Brian, Ellen, and Big Ray were signed to save The Buzz.

Coming from you it must be the most distant from the truth. I'll believe it when it happens.

Honestly they have run out of things to flip formats to at this point haven't they?

That won't happen...They are co-owned with WGNA! I suppose that going after WTRY would be a possibility though....

That is something I would love to see, 105.7 going after 98.3. Plus 105.7 could add reverb similar to what CBSFM used to have if they wanted to and add a lot of the CBSFM jingles. I know 105.7 would be first on my presets if they did go this route.

Any idea when this flip is going to take place???

Chuck and Kelly had a two year contract - and that two year mark arrives mid-September which is when they began on Buzz.

Considering that "Reporter" has had a history of wild accusations and tall tales I highly doubt there is any truth to this rumor.

If there is a format flip it will be purely coincidental.

As much as I'd love to see a "CBSFM" style station I wouldn't hold your breath. I don't think it has been done here simply because it isn't profitable. WKLI comes close and already has their jingle package. Besides if Regent were to do it, you can expect half ass sloppy work.

I'd like to see classic country. They could simply take it off the bird from Jones like 93.7 did a few years ago. That could hurt their big money maker WGNA though and I highly doubt they'd do it. They could have done it on 1300 when they owned it but didn't it.

Simply put this station is in deep crap. There isn't a format that is really workable in Albany nor out of the select few there are is there one that Regent could do right. Their best bet would be to LMA it to WMHT so they can have an in town signal for their abomination on 97.7 that they call "The Exit". Or sell it to Chartock. He'll buy anything that transmits. Hey Alan! I have an iPod modulator for my car, would you like it for another relay for WAMC?

I suspect that you are probably right. Glem disappeared from the website on Monday, as you said he would. If the morning show contract is up in September, and there is one more full timer to leave soon ( a quick look at the website strongly suggests who, through the simple process of elimination) that doesn't leave anyone from the present air staff does it?

Question for you or whomever..The last I knew, C&K were 15th in ratings. Their following of people never transpired from B95, whom in which Ric & Laura I believe are #1 in the demos...25-54. Respectively.

C&K are making a great coin!

What will happen??

Interesting conspiracy theory but Regent didn't hire Chuck & Kelly with plans to fire them. It hired them on the belief that a significant percentage of their listeners would follow them across the street to the new signal and provide a nice morning drive cume injection for Buzz 105.7. Unfortunately for Regent, they weren't able to get control of the 105.7 signal in Sept '06 as planned and had to wait until Jan '07. Rather than investing in keeping Chuck & Kelly top-of-mind and creating curiosity about where they were going to turn up, management made the mistake of waiting until the new station launched. Consequently, non-radio geek C&K listeners were clueless about what happened to the team, shrugged their shoulders and learned to accept the new B95 morning team. So, rather than launching in January '07 with a Chuck & Kelly morning drive fan base
which had migrated with them over from B95, they were stuck with starting over from scratch.

Given the company's current financial difficulties (the last time I looked, the stock was at the $ 0.55 level),
it won't be a surprise if Regent doesn't renew the C&K contracts but it's not because the intention all along was to screw them. The intention was to hurt B95 and protect GNA's hold on the 25-54 demo.

Meantime - lots of unhappy souls at WGNA. Still number one, but at one of the lowest numbers in many many books. They are MAD and may call for a look-see, as they believe women 18-34 were SEVERELY UNDERSURVEYED, accounting for FLY's leap, everyone lese's fall, and the diaml numbers garnered by WGY, WROW and Talk1300. Nothing adds up like it should!

AND rumors of another cut at WGY

Stay tooned!

Regent does nothing right. They never, ever, ever do even something simple right.

It has been long speculated that C&K fell victim to the Mason and Sheehan $$$$$ trap and I'm more inclined to lean toward it as the theory behind their departure from B95. BoomerBuzz makes a good point as well that fits better with how Regent operates - half ass. Why attract and sign a morning show long before you have total control of a frequency? Even before any construction had occurred on the new tower for that matter? They could have done this a hundred different ways but instead did it the Regent half ass way - and it has failed. They also have moved from 104.5 to 105.7, tweaked the format, tweaked it more, outright changed it and it continues to fail. They've advertised the hell out of it too and that has yielded zero results. Hey Regent - you keep calling it Buzz. People hated Buzz years ago on 104.5 and no matter what you play or who is hosting mornings you are still asking for failure keeping a name that the public associates with a bad station. Should have called it The Bone and you might had better results. (sarcasm)

As for Ric and Laura nobody is listening to them either. They are not number one in ANY demographic and C&K leaving B95 did take a major toll on the 12+ as well as target demos. Now nobody is even close to WGNA and even if Buzz 105.7 ceases to exist it'll do nothing to help B95 unless they bring back C&K, which will never happen.

Actually as I recall, Regent did start C&K in September '06, but it was on the former "Buzz" 104.5-WABT. WBZZ finally powered up late in the fall, and then there was a simulcast of 104.5 and 105.7 for a few weeks, until 104.5 was flipped to ESPN, in mid-December. Your over all points do seem valid though...
