It's all about more advertising, less on-air talent, poorly copying whatever fad is out there (MIKE FM / IPOD) - I didn't think two satellite radio companies could survive facing the eventual Internet onslaught, but radio is just handing the new competition the whole thing on a silver platter. As for the Wharfield situation (Situation being one of Bill/Harvey's favorite words), WZLX didn't treat him fairly. Mike Harrison (of Talkers Magazine) might've been the P.D. (I forget - long time ago) that got rid of "Give Us This Day Our Daily Doors" - which was something to look forward to. Now Chuck Nowlin hasStairway To Seven, but the point is, Harv should've been on the station all this time, Chuck should've beenmid-days, Carter as M.D. Interesting how Nik has met Harv only once, everyone's an authority, but since I was there back in the day (indeed, Jimmy Mack from WZLX - (NOT WBCN's Jimmy Mack, though I was friendly with both), WZLX's Jimmy Mack took me to lunch to (in a good way) raid my vast record collection for the station when they first went on the air. So I was somewhat involved pre-Wharfield days. Bill Smith brought Harvey onboard. But I know the reason Harvey left - and it was a vendetta by jerry Charm. The original letter read something like "Harv, we are thrilled to have you on the air and want to renew your contract" (paraphrased).Harv decided to negotiate a different deal and we both ended up at WCGY, but originally ZLX wanted Harv to stay. When the negotiations went South the station went South (I believe Chuck was down the coast) and got Nowlin specifically because he had replaced Harv at WAAF. They also gave him more $$$$ to rub it in and made sure Harv's wife knew. So there you have it - WZLX wanted to keep Harvey - he wasn't happy with the programming or the general manager and they couldn't meet his terms. Had Harv kept it status quo it would be logical to say he'd still be on the air in the afternoon.
