Changes Coming To CBS News

Jeff Glor now named to co-host CBS This Morning Saturday edition.

After being removed from CBS Evening News, Jeff Glor has decided to stick with the network as co-host of CBS This Morning: Saturday. He will be co-hosting with Dana Jacobson and Michelle Miller.

Glor also has been named CBS News Special Correspondent, in which capacity he will report feature stories and investigative reports for the network. He starts his new gig June 22.

In the coming weeks, Glor will begin a new ongoing series for all CBS News broadcasts and platforms under the banner “Who We Are,” CBS News chief Susan Zirinsky said in today’s announcement. That franchise will feature stories similar to his reporting on Gold Star families and people across the country who are “defying the odds,” the announcement described. And, Glor will work with the CBS News investigative unit on reports such as his recent examination of the National Flood Insurance Program, which sparked congressional action.

It's a return for Glor, who hosted the show in 2012.

I guess he replaces Anthony Mason. Plus he gets "Special Correspondent" title.

Maybe he realised, it's better to have any gig in the current news climate. The days of Walter Cronkite are long gone...

For whatever you think of people with "short attention spans", surprisingly the Eye Opener on CBS Mornings has huge numbers. They even feature it as a morning video podcast that also does huge numbers. The problem seems to be, that viewers stick around to watch the Eye Opener, tune out, then head off to work and their lives right after.

This is quite interesting. I fit the observed pattern well. In Phoenix, the CBS affiliate has a "Final 10 Minutes" of local news at 6:50am. I often start watching at 6:50am to seethe local news headlines, weather, and traffic and then watch The Eyeopener on CTM. Then, I get ready to go to work, casually listening to the rest of the first half-hour of CTM (which ends at 7:19am). I'm out the door at 7:25am.

I only watch CBS during the 7-9am slot. I can't take the constant happy patter on NBC and ABC. Nobody is that happy at 8 in the morning! Seriously, CBS does a good job with their morning show. It doesn't pander, it treats viewers like they are intelligent, and offers a very tight mix of serious/hard news combined with some light stories. A great combo for this viewer.
 
I don't like her. I could, but only as a substitute. It's like when Katie Couric was there. She just doesn't seem like the successor to Dan Rather.
 
I always watch Steve Hartman. I have the show set to tape each Friday. I liked the man who introduced him. They hire a new anchor and she's already getting a day off?

I agree today show has too many gossip type stories and stuff people other than housewives dont really care about. As for evening news I say bring back katie couric. She has a way of connecting with old and younger demographics.

CBS execs may be the only ones surprised by the downturn. When "CBS This Morning" was launched with Charlie Rose at its core, Norah O'Donnell and Gayle King played second fiddle. Unfortunately, the show now comprises second- and third-string talent. Let's face it, a "news" program built around Ms. King yields a broadcast that is neither informative nor entertaining. We can expect similar results later in the day after Ms. O'Donnell has taken her seat at the "CBS Evening News" desk.

Not to say that CK was a ratings success. By the late 70s it not only had Today to compete against, but also Good Morning America. One of the reasons the show went away was because of that competition.
 
I find nothing compelling to watch either Gayle King in the morning nor Zora O'Donnell
at the CBS Evening News. I'll be sure not to watch from July 15th onward.

Would you rather watch hoda kotb and that other girl umm savanna guthrie ? Not that much better. I say like best for news in the mornings is either morning joe on MSNBC or GMA.
 
How long before CBS News makes another executive change at the top? Will they give it more than 6 months if the Evening News doesn't rebound?

I think what cbs should do on the morning show is bring in someone kind of edgy like a howard stern or don imus would attract a broader demographic of audience i think.
