I see two call sign changes in the works for Johnstown. 101.7 WCCL will flip to WOWQ and 990/105.9 WNTI will become WGGI. So it looks like 7 Mountains will flip 101.7 to a WOWY simulcast and Make 990/105.9 a country station with the Froggy name.
We reported on the WCCL to WOWY simulcast when the Altoona changes were made last month...I see two call sign changes in the works for Johnstown. 101.7 WCCL will flip to WOWQ and 990/105.9 WNTI will become WGGI. Why is this company obsessed with moving CHRs to AM like it's 1962?! Barely one can hear it! It's 2023. Keep CHR on FM where it BELONGS!
WNTJ is going POP! Friday at 10am
The AM is merely a feeder to the FM translator on 104.5. Business decision. They believe they can pull in more money with the CHR format and focus on Johnstown with the signal. Why is this company obsessed with moving CHRs to AM like it's 1962?! Barely one can hear it! What is W283CX then? Why is this company obsessed with moving CHRs to AM like it's 1962?! Barely one can hear it! It's 2023. Keep CHR on FM where it BELONGS!
It is not a huge coverage difference when targeting Johnstown.Moving the CHR format from Class A 92.1 WJHT to an AM/FM translator combo is definitely a downgrade. They're keeping the format but shuffling it off to a lesser signal, just like they did in State College and Altoona. It remains to be seen what they're going to do with 92.1
Coming from someone who lives near Johnstown and has been listening to 92.1 almost my whole life, the 92.1 signal isn't that great in the area. It is filled with static due to tramsmitting from atop a mountain and broadcasting to an area that essentially is a valley. The class A signal makes it fade out in alot of places that stronger stations which transmit from the same location do not. 104.5 transmitts from a different location and is actually clearer than 92.1 in most places. On a map it looks like a big loss in reality it's not much different.Moving the CHR format from Class A 92.1 WJHT to an AM/FM translator combo is definitely a downgrade. That's what I've been saying about this regarding CHR in State College and Altoona.Moving the CHR format from Class A 92.1 WJHT to an AM/FM translator combo is definitely a downgrade. You keep forgetting about translators and their contours to serve small, yet mostly clustered in one spot, populations in a valley in a state that has a heavy mountainous terrain. (Regardless if the format’s on a full-powered stick, the terrain will be a hindrance.)Why is this company obsessed with moving CHRs to AM like it's 1962?! Barely one can hear it! It's 2023. Keep CHR on FM where it BELONGS!
That's also my point it covers 2 people. You keep forgetting about translators and their contours to serve a small population in a valley.
