Chicago Bears games on Monday night football

Once again, the reason why it's this way is money. The NFL makes money, the local stations make money, the teams make money, and ultimately the players make money. Everyone makes money. That's why it happens.

and the local station carrying it gets lots of eyeballs viewing it ;)

Not sure how local tv stations make money on showing a game locally even through it is really stupid since most people expect for you and others that don't have cable.

Its not stupid. Its called EXPOSURE

While other sports are going cable only the NFL is still on local TV for the local team. Local stations make money by carrying the game...getting eyeballs and selling local TV spots

I guess you didn't see when I posted that "As of July 2016 16% of Chicagoans are OTA only".

And I think the cable company has to black it out in those two cities.

ESPN is blacked out in the two teams' home markets, but I'm not sure that NFL Network is. Most of those games are also on CBS or NBC, and NFL Network isn't blacked out then. Maybe a local blackout occurs when a TNF game is NFL Network exclusive.

I think that's correct. But the NFL Network doesn't have anywhere near the clearance that ESPN has. Plus, at least in my case, people pay extra for it.

Well if your in Chicago you will know when the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers play each other on Thursday night football and of course if you have the NFL Network.

I know last year when the Vikes had 2 nationally televised games (one on ESPN, one on NFL N) the games werent blacked out on the cable station (at least on satellite). Both games could be seen on the national outlet and the local affiliate (WCCO carried both)

must piss you off when the Thursday Night games are mainly on BOTH CBS/NBC AND NFL Network ;)

The Bears/Packers game on 10/20 will air nationwide on CBS and NFL Network. The game will not be blacked out in any market.

I predict more people will watch on CBS than the NFL Network. In fact it will likely be the #1 show on all of TV that night.

I would think so I don't know how many cable stations that even carries the NFL network

Yep but it just like I said I don't know how many cable companies that carries it, but fans won't be missing out

This Thursday's game, Dolphins at Bengals, will be the first of six (5 Thursdays and one Sunday) that will be on NFL Network exclusively. The only broadcast outlets that will air that game will be those in Miami and Cincinnati (not secondary markets like Dayton and W. Palm Beach). Everyone else will have to have NFL Network, watch in a bar that does, or listen on radio.

Actually the NFL Net has 8 games this year exclusive

4 Thursdays (weeks 4, 8-10)
2 Saturdays (week 15 & 16)
1 Sunday (XMas afternoon)
1 Sunday (NFL London game week 7)

Yes, you're correct. I missed those Christmas-week games and counted one too many Thursdays.

This Mondays game (Vikes/Giants) is going to be carried in Minneapolis on WCCO 4/KCCO 7/KCCW 12
WCCO is the "mothership" (Minneapolis)
KCCO (Alexandria) and KCCW (Walker) are satellite stations.

Thats why when CBS O&O does something and you see "16 stations in 14 markets" thats why...we are special and have 3 stations ;)

and by the way....games being simulcast in the local teams markets has been going on since the 90s...it aint going away

Actually since 1987 when ESPN 1st got a share of the NFL contract with Sunday Night football games for the 2nd half of the season. A historical look at cable network broadcasts of the NFL shows this(with local simulcasts occurring since then as well)

1987-89 ESPN Sunday Nights(2nd half of season
1990-97 TNT(1st half of season Sunday Nights ESPN 2nd half Sunday Night)
1998-2005-ESPN(All Sunday Night)
2006-13-ESPN(Monday Night) NFL Network (Thursday Night)
2014-15-ESPN(Monday Night) NFL Network(Thursday Night 8 games with CBS)
2016-ESPN(Monday Night) NFL Network(Thursday Night CBS and NBC split Network Simulcast games)
