CHR in Orlando

With WXXL doing quite well with a 6.2 share, would love to know what numbers WONQ (Party FM Orlando) is pulling in as a bi-lingual CHR. Unfortunately they must not subscribe to the ratings. The market is over 36% Latino and Party FM has plenty of English language music, announcers and commercials so they must be sharing a lot of listeners.

It's nice to see XL continuing to do well when you see other CHR stations in similar sized markets with 2 and 3 shares out of the Top 10. I too would be curious as to how Party is doing (and if they're taking much of XL's potential audience)

Party's signal is very spotty in my area (Apopka-Clarcona-Hiawassee). Their signal is also spotty in Kissimmee (not sure why they advertise that), but at least they are getting Sanford. Since XL's numbers are going up, I doubt they are taking much of their measured audience. They might be taking Mix's numbers instead, because I notice that they play a lot more music from the 2010s than currents. They would also be taking some of Rumba, Hits, or even El Zol's numbers if they were doing well, but it doesn't look that way in the public ratings. Kaliente has the better signal, but look at their numbers. If you put Party on 103.1's stronger signal, then you might have something competitive there.

I, too, am curious about Party's ratings, since I also play some of what they play, both current & classics, on my own radio show. The new engineer (of Z Family) at WPRK completely took away the encoder from the studio.

I'm disappointed that Party doesn't have any mix shows.

WFLZ could definitely have some listeners. In the past WFLZ used to reach more of Orlando, but with translators, it is mostly restricted to Osceola County. Orlando certainly has an unusually high percentage of people listening to CHR compared to other markets.

As for stations from out of the market, I would think that country music listeners would be more likely to listen to out-of-market WPVC than CHR listeners listening to WFLZ because their signal is quite strong over most of O-town.

I cannot get FLZ anywhere in West Orlando. There's adjacent WFLA on 93.1, adjacent OK 93.5, & Gospel on 93.3 coming in from Sanford. Once I get near Disney, then FLZ starts to come in, so they are not a factor here in Orlando.

WPCV is quite a monster of a signal. I sometimes get the HD signal coming in my area. If they ever flip to CHR, then they might be able to take a little of XL's numbers away a lot better than Party's spotty translator signals.

WPCV does have an amazing signal. I doubt they would change formats any time soon. Although Lakeland-Winter Haven no longer has its own book, WPCV has been so dominant with their country music format.

When I lived on the Disney side of town in the pre-translator era I could pick up the majority of the Tampa FMs as if they were Orlando locals no matter the weather or time of year. FLZ, Mix 100.7, 101.5 (it was still The Point), US 103.5 and The Dove all came in crystal clear and were on my presets. Plus Hall's WPCV and Max 98.3 in Lakeland.

Q105 and The Eagle were also on my presets, but I usually only could get them in certain conditions, but they would be crystal clear starting around the Haines City exit on I-4.

Funny enough, there's a very specific stretch of 434 in Longwood from the old Winn-Dixie that's being renovated into an Aldi to the I-4 ramps where I can pick up Q105 out of Tampa crystal clear almost any time. For about a minute and a half until I drive past that stretch.
