Chris Krok

Musings:

Krok? Boy, that name lends for some fun-making, as in Krok-of-s***.

So will KLIF change calls to KROK?

The guy (see link) looks like a 20-yr old board op. He might try wearing a suit for the next photo shoot. Sure would go a long way in establishing some credibility, unless his only focus is to try to convert GenXers into neo-cons.

You can tell he wrote his own bio..."That’s when KSTP/Minneapolis called, only to be followed by WSB/Atlanta stealing him away." And now he's "thrilled" to be in Macon, GA? Umm, that's a step backwards, I would think. Will the website soon read, "until Dallas stole him away." Penny larceny, considering the station, if you ask me. (Then again, will he be syndicated to Dallas from Macon? Sure would fit with the Dickey-ing around that's happening at Cumulus. Fire Wells, pocket the cash.)

Bio also mentions, "'Talkers Magazine' named him as one of the 250 most important Talk Show Hosts in 2007." Umm, I don't think there's even 250 talk show hosts out there.

"And Krok has just been listed as one of "Macon's Most Influential People" in a poll of 75 "movers and shakers" by Macon Magazine." Umm...are there even 75 movers and shakers living in Macon?

The bio mentions that he's done fill-in in Dallas. That's probably where Theodore has heard him before.

And this resume trumps Wells'?

All of this is not even for me to say. I don't listen to 570 and likely never will. This is obviously another conservative talk show host whose sole purpose is to tell you what to think. Yawn.

You said a bunch of things I was gonna say. No fair.

I have heard Krok aon a number of occasions and always thought he sounded like he had gone to "talk show host school". He is about as cheezily hackneyed as you can get, political activism and all.

Of all the *major* market stations to go to, I cannot imagine being less excited about one more than KLIF. I almost question whether moving from Macon is a step up! The top-of-the-hour ID at KLIF should inlcude "is there anyone out there?"

Aww, come on Mike, this is just what North Texas needs: someone to take on the communist/socialists, atheists and democrats. Someone willing to 'out' the homosexual agenda. Someone who will call for the government to get out of health care and to stop regulating the financial industry. What a breath of fresh air. I just wonder why no other programmer has tried this 'New Direction' before.

Gentle musings?

Notice what demo Gen-xers are? 25-44. What demo are the baby boomers? 45+. Might be helpful if you were trying to draw in gen x-ers to have a Gen- Xer insted of some 50 year old hosting your talk show. Perhaps there's a valid reason to have someone younger hosting the show...

Sure would fit with the Dickey-ing around that's happening at Cumulus.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't KPLX in the top 3 persons 25-54 and the Ticket #1 (by a mile) in men 25-54? If the most money is to be made in 25-54, they've got 2 of the most dominant stations in town.

Bio also mentions, "'Talkers Magazine' named him as one of the 250 most important Talk Show Hosts in 2007." Umm, I don't think there's even 250 talk show hosts out there.
I can probably name 15-20 talk shows in this market. Multiply that out over multiple major markets, hundreds of small markets, and there are thousands of talk shows out there...

"And Krok has just been listed as one of "Macon's Most Influential People" in a poll of 75 "movers and shakers" by Macon Magazine." Umm...are there even 75 movers and shakers living in Macon?
Are there 75 movers and shakers in midland -Odessa or amarillo??? Macon is bigger than both of those cities...

And this resume trumps Wells'?
Maybe not. But the thing you don't seem to understand (which probably has a lot to do with while you're not really employed in the radio industry anymore) is that it's not about a resume, it's about the ability to draw ratings and create revenue. KLIF is languishing in 29th (6+).

All of this is not even for me to say. I don't listen to 570 and likely never will. This is obviously another conservative talk show host whose sole purpose is to tell you what to think. Yawn.
Again, his purpose isn't to tell people what to think, his purpose is to draw ratings and create revenue. If telling people what to think does that, great. More power to him.

It cracks me up when some of you people complain that KLUV is playing classic rock and not oldies, or that the Ticket doesn't really talk sports, or that Jagger should have quit rather than let them fire Dean and Mondo. . Like playing oldies or talking sports is the job description. Their job is to create ratings. If playing different music, or talking about something other than sports helps get ratings, great. And if you have 2 (or more) sidekicks and you're NOT getting ratings, well, sorry to see Mondo and Dean go, but they're not doing what they're supposed to do. GET RATINGS!!!!

...the thing you don't seem to understand (which probably has a lot to do with while you're not really employed in the radio industry anymore) is that it's not about a resume...

ouch!

He was on at night here in Atlanta on WSB-AM.

Sounds like a punk kid doing talk radio.

A conservative punk kid.

Really, he sounds like he's about 22. Although I believe he's quite a bit older than that.

I know he was loved in Minneapolis. Made the leap to WSB AM in ATL, got downsized, landed a gig in short time in Macon and is now back up in the Major Markets where he should be.

To the geniuses at KLIF - AM...you get rid of a right wing, neo con, talk talent...to put in a right wing, neo con, talk semi-talent??? Brain trust at Cumulus strikes again.

Note to the KLIF think tank....people don't want anger and hate speech rhetoric as they motor on home. A little is good, blend in some entertainment and you have fairly palatable afternoon drive. May I suggest you stream WLS and Roe Conn some afternoon....he's not perfect but a heck of lot better than what you are shoveling out to these poor folks here in Dallas.

You're either Chris [EDIT], cause I listened to some of his "show" online to check it out...Freshman year college radio, at best.

[EDIT-vulgar content]

Mike Shannon pretty well described Krock. He tries to stir things.
Sometimes successful. On the Georgia board no one has commented on his move. What does that say?

Is he actually moving here or being syndicated?

I remember this guy filled in for JD a couple of times. I was not impressed. Found him to be reckless, irresponsible and unprepared for "big boy radio". Geez, KLIF, of all the talent out there...

Somewhat disturbing piece on Krock in the Macon GA newspaper. Apparently they're all happy to see him go:

http://www.macon.com/2010/03/27/1074179/krok-leaving-macon-for-texas-radio.html

Interesting that he's already part of the Cumulus family. Wouldn't want to make any fresh hires from the local area, of course. In the article, this guy sounds like part Marty Griffin, part Bill O'Reilly.

Pay rate? Sheesh, get real. Hopping from market #156 to #5, he probably is paying Nicholl for the airtime. Afternoons spewing the same thing that Hannity is, but getting 1/20th the ratings? I'd say $40K tops. This IS Cumulus, remember? (Good thing the hype is all about the MARKET and not the STATION, right?)
