Christmas Music

I *might* possibly consider listening to radio again if some one would just format a two-month marathon of Burl Ives a "It's A Holly Jolly Christmas"!

98 is knocking it out of the park with their Christmas music. MUCH better than 92.9 or the Fish! I'm actually staying awake listening to it! They switched our intercom to 95.5, as 92.9 tends to get static off and on all the time (we're in a concrete building with a lot of RF interference being generated). I'll be switching it over to 98 sometime today for everyone.

Like so many things that get bandied about here, it's a ratings thing. Stations go all-Christmas because it works and, based on years of results across many markets, it seems that earlier works even better than later. I have a personal bias against launching into Christmas before Thanksgiving, but I've always been amazed at folks who actually have a chance to have a career on the radio, and then whine endlessly about being tired of the songs they play or about repetition. It's a job, they are tools, you should be trying to win. You are fortunate.

Ahem, most of us are no longer in radio, and even when we were, we weren't having to play Chri$tma$ muzak for six weeks straight!

I still remember the time I went into Fantastic Sam's for a haircut a couple of days before Christmas, and they were playing a Garth Brooks CD because they were sick and tired of all the Chri$tma$ moozak being played on the radio, and that was 19 years ago!

I enjoy the Christmas music on the Fish but the telephone voice at the end of each song drives me crazy!!!
Probably a fairly good sign that they are voice-tracked. I remember a voice-tracked FM in west Tennessee back in the early '80s. One unintentionally funny back-announced title from back then: "I ran from a flock of seagulls"! ;D

One song an hour starting at Thanksgiving then gradually increase. Wall-to-wall 6PM Christmas Eve til Noon Christmas Day. That's how it used to be. When radio was relevant.

Hope Everyone has or had a Merry Christmas in 2011. When 12 Noon Christmas day rolls around, put those Brenda Lee and Burl Ives tunes back on the back shelves (or back file on computer play lists) at least until after Labor Day. I was talking to a Friend in Canada. Same thing in Canada. Radio starts playing Christmas tunes a few weeks before Thanksgiving! I did hear some really cool Christmas tunes that probably would not make 92.9 Christmas rotation. Leon Russell's "Slipping into Christmas". Does anyone remember Patsy Ray and the Beatniks Christmas song? Very cool.Or James Brown's: Santa Clause should go to the Ghetto? Another fav is The Kinks Father Christmas. Greg Lake's: "I believe in Father Christmas". Just a few cool Christmas tines that probably will not make the 92.9 Christmas play list anytime in this lifetime. or a thousand lifetimes for that mater. ;) Again, Merry Christmas and Happy new Year!
