There's several scenarios that could happen with this new translator-
1. Move the current format on X106.7 to 680 AM & 104.9, in hopes of stealing listeners from 104.5 KZEP. Thus, launching a new format on 106.7.
2. Launch a new format on 680 AM and 104.9.
3. Activate their HD-2 with a new format and simulcast on 104.9.
4. Simulcast Classic Country on 104.9 which is currently being reported.
IMO, they will target the 18-34 demos with either Alternative, Top 40 Dance or Hip Hop. Cox currently doesn't have station in SA attracting this demo. My vote is for Top 40 Dance. Dance music has been on the rise for several years and now has become mainstream. This will also create havoc with Top 3 stations targeting the 18-34 demos.
Cox tried Top 40 Dance as 1067 Jamz. The Top 40 market in San Antonio is oversaturated. Dance usually is placed on your HD subchannels.
Cox will probally do some frequency swaps, and station reimaging but probally the later part of 2012 if not 2013. KONO is doing good, KISS isn't, KCYY doing well, KTKX is not. I would probally think that Cox will try AM 680 to simulcast on 104.9 at first while keeping tabs on KTKX, and KISS. X1067 will be on the chopping block that is almost certain. KISS will go Classic Rock (look at their playlist) 106.7 will probally simulcast KKYX AM, and for 104.9 simulcast 99.5 KISS HD-2 which will be Album Rock if the Heavy Metal channel on 107.1 HD2 in Austin stays, or the HD2 will be Alternative. That is assuming Cox is looking at Austin markets and comparing that to San Antonio.
99.5 The Rock of San Antonio, Classic Rock/Rock (not really a change but reimaging.)
99.5 HD-2 Album Rock or
99.5 HD-2 Alternative No Control Radio 99.5 HD-2
104.9 simulcasting 99.5 HD-2
Your Classic County Favorites are back on the FM Dial KKYX 106.7 FM and as always on AM 680. See the 106.7 calls are basically cursed since Cox aquired them.
Of course they could sell KTKX to Univision or Liberman if they want to enter the San Antonio market with the La Raza format. Liberman could buy 106.7, AM 680, and the 104.9 translator to expand to the San Antonio market. They have Houston, and Dallas.

I don't see Cox messing with KISS in terms of imaging. Lots of places would kill to have those call letters. Perhaps this is a second coming of format tweaking that will not be in favor of the people of SA like when they flipped the station to oldies in the early 90s. Look how quickly they went back to rock. I really don't mind the classic rock mixed in on KISS as it sorta reminds me of them back in the mid 90s. However, they should keep with the harder edge rock and nothing too slow or soft. The problem is that active rock has declined sine the oversaturation of butt rock in the '00s with Nickleback and Buckcherry.
However, if KISS was smart, they would do away with most of the classic rock and start spinning alternative gold and new stuff like Black Keys, Cage the Elephant and Foo Fighters alongside active rock gold and currents. I know people have been dying for an alternative format, especially those who used to DX 101X out of Austin back in the 90s.
