But Dude..... regardless of the CR Format, or how it leans.....

THEY ALL PLAY THE COMMERICAL HITS.

So, that Sucks no matter how you dice and slice!!

I love the hair bands. When you see the crowds at Rocklahoma this week, some interest has come back. You have bands like Bret Michaels, Def Leppard, and Motley Crue having some success on the charts. And even though he is not really a hair band he is a big influence, Alice Cooper's upcoming album on July 29th I hear is doing very well on preorders because it has an old school sound. There seems to be a group of people who want to hear this type of music. However, I think the classic rock audience is different than the hair band audience (though I like both) You can throw in a little of the old Alice Cooper, Sabbath, or Judas Priest and it will be fine with classic rock fans but if you put in too many Poison, Motley Crue, etc. some people will turn the channel. There probably is a market for some straight up hard rock stations these days.

The top rated Classic Rock station in Pittsburgh, WDVE at 102.5, basically plays "LaGrange" over and over and over and over and over, along with a handful of other old songs.

There's a new station in Dllas called RISE. It's on the HD-2 channel of KVIL 103.7.
They play upbeat and rockin' songs in the Chrtisian ROCK vein.

I have listened to RISE on different occasions. And six out of even times, I heard something I like. IT'S FRESH !

I also think that the engineers at 103.7 have got the dymanics tweaked to enjoyment, rather than ear fatigue.... but I'm no engineer, and no bench test has been perfomred on their signal.... But I Love the way it sounds.

IT RAWKS !

They plan on streaming the HD-2 station, as well.

Actually there are more people...thousands per city..that would rather hear a poison tune over a Doors tune for example ...well cause... you hear the Doors tune every 3-4 hrs in every city in America. People are tired of the same songs and the same bands on a classic rock station. Yeah a few people would turn the channel....but alot more would be listening in the first place cause they want to hear music you dont hear anymore on the radio that was big in the later 80s-early 90s. Safe recognizable music kills a stations ratings. And it shows on most 70s-80s classic rock stations and alternative stations that play the same bands over and over. The alternative stations play Pearl Jam and Stone Temple Pilots 5-7times per day. Its like....ugh...not again!

Todays rock bands are simular to the hairbands of yesterday...just not the glam image. They are just as rockin as they are in the 80s-early 90s. Bands such as....Disturbed,Shinedown,Fivefingerdeathpunch,AnotherBlackDay,RevTheory,JetBlackStare,PopEvil,Slipknot,AvengedSevenfold,
BulletForMyValentine,BlackStoneCherry,SixxA.M.,Lynam,Buckcherry,SavingAbel,DrowningPool, + Many Many more. Even Hinder is more of a 80s sound now with their new album.Lips of a Angel is more of a 80s ballad from 2 years back and many bands have good ballads coming out. Oh and btw the radio stations that are playing this music above are doing very well on the ratings......KHTQ,WRIF,WJJO,KZRR, and many more. If you havent heard of more than 3 of these bands... you need to call out your Alternative rock station MD and raise some hell... and I bet your stations ratings are under 3...infact the average alternative rock stations ratings in America is 2.4 and average active rock station is 3.7

I think a good Pure Rock Station would be Mostly New Rock of a Active Rock format while mixing in 80s hardrock/metal 1-2 times per hour. Sure every once in awhile you play a big hit from the 90s bands..but the stations with the worst ratings are stuck in the 90s playing them and people dont want to keep hearing the same tunes over and over again. You play alot of New Pure Hard Rock with some 80s Metal mixed in with yesterdays big hits from Disturbed,Godsmack,Shinedown...etc.

I just can't get behind a station that is so dedicated to playing c-r-a-p. To cal them and raise "hell" just so they can play --one-- good song, in between a mountain of $%#*, is no "Win" situtation for me.

What radio ought to be doing, that want to serve the "rest of us", is NOT playing all that c-r-a-p in the first place.

There are hundreds of albums to choose from, and from those hundreds of albums, you can, with just "a little" discernment, pick MANY cool and groovy songs, (not--wierd and way out eccletic songs....) to play all day long, Without, playing the "hits" that have already been run into the ground.....

Let the listeners who are actually satisfied to hear the same old songs.... hear the same old songs.... on some :eek:ther" station.

There's enough people who would listen to "something other than" what is aired on those kind of stations, to market and advertise to. It may not be the HUGE numbers and INCOME of "HITS ONLY" radio station.... but then, that's just the ISSUE.

Many, many of us DO NOT want to hear "The HITS".

I know from where I speak.

If someone can do radio for the sake of the music, AND, make a living, well that, should be possoble...

But I think that Congress and the FCC have a much different idea about what is of "worth" to the American people. They think American Idol is what's worthy. The same parallel to radio.

What is worthy to me, is NOT American Idol. That's POP, and I want something other than POP. That's what FM raadio was about in the beginning....

But oh.... how it has all come back to being throw away pop.... that's all there selling, but that's not all that the public is buying.... Just the "Largest Numbers" buy it..... And the serach for most doolars today, rules what worthless media you see and hear, today....

Thanks Congress.... You're a REAL friend to Business.

You have No Soul, just the the corporations you Serve !!

Your right about congress doing the playlist. Clear Channel is probably the worst when it comes to ROCK playlists selections.

Hits from Yesterday though that arent being played on the radio over the last 10 years is a welcome change to the hits from yesterday that are being played nonstop....

Then again...yesterdays hits to 1 person may not be a hit to another...but should be based on top 20 back in the day 85-93.

I see and feel exactly what your saying Rover....

A lot of the older AOR stations have since migrated to "classic rock", (WAXQ New York) while others have since kept up with Active Rock (WHJY Providence)

A few suggestions I'd like to make for any Hard Rock station be they terrestrial or internet would be to feature the following special programming for at least a half hour a night or per week: the first would be inspirational or 'white' metal (besides Stryper, groups such as Mass or Whitecross could qualify). Another show devoted entirely to women. This could and should include women who front an all male band such as Lorraine Lewis, Doro Pesch or Lita Ford as well as the all women bands like Vixen or Phantom Blue. May I suggest the names "Queens of Metal" or "Rockin' Queens" for such a show.

Southern Maryland has a Classic Solid (hard) Rocker: WYRX '97.7 The Rocket' out of Lexington Park. If ever 92.7 out of Prince Frederick is ever sold, I hope that the owners of 97.7 will consider buying the station and moving the format there. http://www.977therocket.com/
Bad News: this station just switched to Top-40 this past weekend.:(

I just want to move somewhere, where radio music playlists for alcoholics does not regin supreme.

But wait, Big brother.... I mean Big Business.... likes it that way.

Music for alcoholics.... across all socio-economic barriers.....

Sounds like Big Brother to me.

Remebering when radio was a force for Good, Musically.

It's now become completely "The Dark Side", Musically.

Big Business has it's mouthpice for the masses.

I'll sleep better knowing that the music playlists acroos all cultural barriers, are in their consultants fists.

I resemble that remark ,hey do you know how to spell remenber or is it remember.
by the way its THE RESON FOR HEAVY ROTATION IS THAT AOR DOES WORK ANOY MORE.THERE RATINGS ARE HORRIBLE ALONG WITH TODAYS ACTIVE ROCK STATIONS AND THIS IS UNFORTINATE. I live in Fresno we have 2 classic rock stations one 1965-1989 and one 1970 -2000 and it now plays NICELBACK AND 3 DOORS DOWN both with tight playlist KJFX and KKBZ the blaze is the latterThe FOX does well with Bob and Tom the Blase does okey.We have 2 Current rockers KRZR and KFRR there ratings have fell in the last year KFRR is a little more ALTERATIVE and has pasted up KRZR for the first time. We just lost JACK-FM 105.9 KFJK this week to A NEWS TALK FORMAT KMJ-FM. I'll say more tomorrow IT TIME FOR A NOTHER BEER. IT WOULD BE GREAT TO HAVE TRUE AOR RADIO AGAIN.

I just want to walk into a CC or CBS radio station and say this...."I'm here to clean house...everyone is FIRED....now here is what needs to be played on radio again"

If you'll spell reson as reason.... then I can remenber to spell remember :)

If I slow down typing, I can spell.... really.... Taking my time, I can probably out-proof read most of you.... But I'm not taking that time .. ;D

I understood what you meant, even with your intended/unintended mis-spellings !

Rock radio is like the Newpaper Industry to me.... Dying and unecessary in it's present form.
