Pretty Much mostly the over-played CR songs, with a few "other" thrown in.

Sorry, but if could reverse the mix, to have only a few of the over-played songs, then it would worth my time to listen.

Im' INSULTED with over-played songs. Would you do that to a friend ? ?

I THINK NOT ! ! ! !

After months away, I return to these boards only to find The Rover posting (almost verbatim) his same ole argument about oversaturation.

Rover, you've fallen into a trap that catches most first-year PDs out there. Haven't you learned anything from these boards yet?

If you're going to compete with other rock programmers in your market for high ratings and developing the best CPP for your sales department...redeem your objectivity. Stop downgrading the merit of a song just because you're mad at radio for overplaying it.

Isn't "Kashmir" one of the most overplayed CR track? Yes.

Isn't it a great song? Yes.

AND, 20 years from now, and another 10,000,000,000,000,000 plays later, will it still be a great song? Yes.

It's why Bach and Mozart still live on thru classical stations.

But all of this is moot to you if you're not working in radio...otherwise, if you don't like it just delete it from your ipod.

Hate the game (radio) all you want, but not the player (artist).

Mmmm, can you do better?

Here's a chance for you to show us your chops!

Let's say you are a rock PD at K-Rover in a top-50 market...your P1 target is a 34-year old male.

Give us two hours (say 10am-Noon) of what your programming would create.

I look forward to reading your post.

Ahhhh let me put a shot @ this... 10am-12noon.. my playlist of about 24- 25ish songs in that time frame.

"Smells Like Teen Spirit" Nirvana
"Plowed" Sponge
"Only" Anthrax
"Beth" Kiss
"Talk Dirty To Me" Poison
"Under The Bridge" RHCPs

Long Time No See Wang Chung !

The only thing oversaturated is the amount of same Classic Rock songs played on variuos stations in the same market.

My beef is that there is no place for music, other than the songs of Classic Rock. Of course, there deserves to be a station that plays all those Classic Rock songs. Not that I'd listen.

But, for those of us that don't use I-Pods or Sat Radio, we, would like to be able to turn on the radio anytime, day or night, and listen to something other than Classic Hit Rock Radio.

We're baby Boomers, and some of us have not sold out to the commerical crap of Classic Rock Radio.

I hate, the fact there is not a home for other than Classic Rock Radio ANYWHERE on the airwaves of the Dallas-Ft.Worth Market. Not even on one, of the HD sub-channel.

IT'S A CONSPIRACY, I TELL YA ! !

If I am in the mood for hard classic rock I listen to the stream of KGGO/Des Moines. They are a "classic rock that really rocks" but they don't play too much hair band stuff which I'm not a fan of.

KKBZ 105.1 in Fresno plays a lot of Hard Rock and Heavy Metal 70s and 80s and does play some hair bands like Skidrow, but stays away from the so called Glam hair bands like Slaughter and Winger, they mostly play Metallica, AC/DC, Whitesnake, Dokken, Ozzy, Krokus, and all hard 70s and 80s Van Halen, Pink Floyd, and Led Leppelin. they stay away from Elton, The Doobie Bros that plays on cross town KJFX 95.7 The Fox.

Is KJFX harder at night? Sometimes I listen to their stream (usually late at night) and they are rocking hard.

KJFX is harder at night ,during the day their "office safe" format is more on the line of the softer Eagle songs,Elton, Jerry Rapperty, Jimmy Buffet and Paul McCartney and Wings mixed with the big so called rock gods. The Blaze is hard rock 24/7 and plays more tracks from the big rock groups and plays more metal than the FOX. They don't have a Stream yet so nobody can compare them outside this market. Since KKBZ THE BLAZE went on the air I have notice some improvement to the FOX, they went from 200 songs to 300 songs,I guess competition is good.

I guess its really hard to distinguish who is glam and who is a hairband back in the 80s-early 90s. While I would say Poison,Enuff Z Nuff,Tuff and a couple others that used alot of makeup to look like girls were glam....I would say Slaughter,Whitesnake,SkidRow,Europe,Tesla,Firehouse,Def Leppard, Lita Ford...etc etc were Hairbands... then there was the metal groups like GNR, Accept,Anthrax,Megadeth,Metallica,Slayer,Pantera....btw yeah GNR was more inbetween Hairband and Metal...very commericialize. Anyways going back to the Glam.. I wouldnt mind hearing that once in awhile on the radio then hearing the same STP or other 90s grunge tunes that are played 8-10times a day on the radio per station!

Good point on that one ,what is glam,KKBZ does play Poison "Every Rose' and Nothin' But a good time", but won't touch Warrent or Winger, One thing about the Blaze their owned by Lotus a smaller company that owns stations in only a few cities, their programmed locally ,not like those big companies that begin with the letter C. They do have more of a distinst playlist than the usual Classic Rock Format, a few others they play Queenryce, Tesla, Great White and L.A. Guns.

I hate to be a downer here...

All of those alleged "overplayed songs" are "overplayed" because people like them.

This is a mass-appeal world. And the masses couldn't care less about how deep their radio station is. They want "teen spirit" & "crazy train."

I'm not saying it's a good thing. I'm saying it's reality. Most of those "cool" songs you love hearing, result in no audience.

That's not good. No need to get long-winded. I agree we're in a stagnant area musically. But, until the consumer decides we need to change...and they haven't yet...we will continue to feed them what they ask for.

..and they ask for what we're playing.

Sad, but true.

Your correct from a person that works in radio...and yeah radio shouldnt play songs that never made the top 20 in any year.... but people usual will request a song from a station cause they know they will play it...and its on their rotation schedule already :)

People will continue to request Crazy Train and Teen Spirit, cause they know they will play it. If they know they will play Slayer... you will get people requesting that also... same with the Poison crowd... if you play it..they will request it!

Scott, you're FIRED for playing two grunge cuts back-to-back on a classic rock station.

You also countered your own logic by putting 'Master of Puppets' first. I thought you wanted to spin stuff that wasn't already frequently played.

But most of all, you're fired for continuously posting these lists.

The only redeeming quality in any of this is that you included Panama. I guess a broken clock is still right twice a day.

WangChung, thank you for speaking up. You are the voice of reason among these programming n00bs.

Sorry Adam... but maybe you should just pretend to know what your talking about by giving a list of what you would put on the radio... is that why your on weekends only?

Here's a station you all should check out, KKBZ 105.1 they just started steaming at 105.1theblaze.com. they playing classic rock mixed with heavy metal 80s and 90s, along with the traditional classic rock.they play more album cuts than the cross town station KJFX like I mention in earlier post.

I read that the KKBZ PD was let go a couple of days ago. I would guess for bad ratings since they are in or near last place. If only they had more passionate fans like you.
