Clear Channel Must be Doing Something Right

And there's nothing stopping another media company from owning as many stations CC has in this or any market. There are FCC cap limits in place to regulate such things based on number of stations in each band in a market (based on market size) and percentage share of audience. So as to ownership, there's no monopoly at work, just a company that's spread itself across the country.

I guess there's no complaints about CBS Radio owning as many outlets in the major markets? Or maybe Entercom's 4 FM & 3 AM stations in Kansas City or Greater Media's 5 FM stations in Boston, for example? Or the soon to be Cumulus/Citadel company?

An argument may be made that the cap limits should be tightened a bit, but you can't blame the big dogs for taking a bigger piece of the pie when it was made available.

Now might CC be, uh, somewhat leveraged these days since they might be spread a bit too thin? Different story. How each company runs its business is a different matter - I'm sure there's many differing opinions amongst radio professionals as to which radio company handles things the best. Can be quite subjective.

i`m prety consistant.i think its bad when any company owns too many stations in a market.i think it should be one am station, one fm station and one tv station max.that would be best for diversity of sound and editorial content,

When those rules were in place, you instead had multiple stations all doing the same format. At one time, there were four beautiful music stations in NYC (WRFM, WTFM, WPAT, and WVNJ), all with different owners, and all were doing well. How did that help diversity of sound? They were all playing the Living Marimbas and Ray Coniff?

Ray Conniff -- hey, maybe that's an idea for a stunt. "Beautiful music" from the days when dinosaurs were still roaming parts of New Jersey. It would probably be so repellent that no one would be willing to try even something that silly, but it would be kinda funny.

That is what you get when you own too many stations in one market. It's called a "MONOPOLY" and ClearChannel Thanks Bill Clinton for passing the bill! Go light up another cigar and maybe you can share one with Ryan Seacrest this time around

Clear Channel is the one who paid Bill Clinton to pass the "bill" But he wasn't alone..A ton of people in Congress were paid off as well.

As for Ryan Seacrest, I have duct tape to tape his mouth shut...HE SUCKS as a radio personality and on air TV talent.

I would rather listen to Harold Camping than Ryan Seacrest.

Really? Ted Kennedy got paid off? Bob Dole got paid off? Proof?

Oh trust me - there ARE complaints about Cumulus! Just wait until all those chr stations bought by Cumulus also adopt a top 20 or so current hits playlist instead of the traditional full top 40 and you will see people in the chr section start posting on these boards as if posting on these boards is going out of style!

Still wondering if "super bass" by Nicki Minaj will ever be added to all the Cumulus stations? Or will it remain unplayed, the same way Danity Kane and Metro Station were?
