Cleveland TV Revolving Door

Some changes at the anchor desk at WOIO/WUAB. Brian Duffy is now co-anchoring the weeknight newscasts, while Tiffani Tucker is now only on late afternoons and early evenings.

Duffy really has been a Swiss Army knife at Reserve Square for nearly a quarter of a century.

At various points he's been a sports reporter, weeknight sports anchor, morning news anchor, news reporter, and now evening news anchor

Damon Maloney is out as morning co-anchor at WOIO CBS 19/WUAB CW 43, as he is moving on to greener pastures.

For now, traffic anchor Jamie Sullivan slides over to the big desk alongside Shannon Smith, and Kelly Dobeck, who has been a Swiss Army knife on the morning show since it expanded across 19 and 43 this summer, is handling traffic duties.

Investigative reporter Hannah Catlett is out at WOIO CBS 19/WUAB CW 43 to take a job as a spokeswoman for First Energy.

While we're on the subject, here is a list of the designated investigative reporters at the 4 Cleveland TV newsrooms:

WKYC NBC 3:
Marisa Saenz

WEWS ABC 5:
Jonathan Walsh
Tara Morgan
Scott Noll
Sarah Buduson
Joe Pagonakis

WJW Fox 8:
Ed Gallek
Peggy Gallek
Carl Monday (contributor)
Tom Meyer (contributor)

WOIO CBS 19/WUAB CW 43:
Sara Goldenberg

While they're at it, they should rename Fox 8 to I-Team News, seeing that there's always an I-Team report in progress every time I turn them on.

For a while after the change to 3News, there were four investigators at WKYC. Now it appears to be one.

WOIO had three or four investigators at one time as well. Recent attempts to have a third investigator back in 2019 and '20 didn't work out.

WEWS and WJW are the two that are more committed to having a team.

Did WEWS and WOIO/WUAB do some really good coverage of the snowstorm last week? I only tuned into Fox 8 for a bit in the morning and saw that the only people doing any sort of coverage of it were Todd looking at the ODOT cameras - Patty Harken was off - and Stacey Frey was hanging out at the Airport. (My prediction was that Kenny would be at the standard spot of SouthPark Center, Stacey would probably be down along I-271 by Pinecrest, and - maybe - Jessica Dill would be stationed down in Fairlawn off of 77 or 8 overlooking Best Buy. You know, the standard Fox 8 coverage spots... Maybe they would have someone out in Chardon, too.) Alas, because it was the holiday weekend and everyone was off, there wasn't the usual wall-to-wall SNOW WATCH OMG IT'S THE END OF THE WORLD coverage that a storm like this would usually bring.

WKYC, on the other hand, only had poor Austin Love out in Garfield Heights for a couple of live shots, in which time he'd poured a beer out into a glass and timed how long it took to freeze. I think Austin's segments are up on the WKYC YouTube account, if you're interested in watching them. (Honestly, it's not much.)

A little of column A and a little of column B.

Lots of folks are on holiday break, plus there really wasn't a lot of snow...it was just insanely cold and windy.

The Gallek's on Fox 8 are on way too much and repeat the same old material constantly especially the Deshaun Watson material.
The I-Team has been front and center on TV 8 for nearly 35 years.

From Carl Monday to Tom Meyer to Tom Merriman to the Galleks...this is nothing new.

And whatever your feelings on the matter, when the quarterback of the Browns had going on what he had going on, it's gonna be mined for all its worth

Carl Monday and even Tom Merriman were way more interesting compared to the fluff that they call I-Team now. The tag team approach is a joke.

In it's earliest I-Team days, you could tell Monday and Merriman spent a lot of time researching, recording and following up. It was rare to see a new I-Team story within a month. Also, I wonder how much was scrubbed if the story just didn't seem to go anywhere. When I turn on Fox 8 news at 10 today. And see the Galleks are featured as the first story, which is usually underwhelming. It's obvious that Fox 8 is just trying to use the I-Team as a vehicle to make it's Newscasts look fuller and credible, and it just falls flat more than not. I'd rather see the days headlines first.

That is the problem with Fox 8. They have way too much time to fill. Weather segments every 5 minutes that tell us nothing drives me crazy. That is why I opt for a half hour newscast, usually WKYC.

Fox 8 and CBS 19/CW 43 have too many newscasts on in the market. A lot of the content is repeats, and for Fox 8, extra material that is "fun." A lot of times it's too much.
