Cleveland TV Revolving Door

WOIO has added Mike Mason from Alaska as an investigative reporter. He started last month.

Meanwhile, Jim Nelson hasn't been on 19 since August.
Nelson's gone.

Caitlin McCarthy has taken over as weekend evening anchor.

Mason joins Sara Goldenberg on 19/43's investigator team.

Free agent.
He seemed like a good reporter. I wonder if he left on his own. I've been watching more of 19 News at 10:00 as opposed to Fox 8 as I can't stand some of the I-Team reports which seem to repeat the same old stuff and try to make it look interesting.

Guess there was a bunch of layoffs at Scripps stations again according to FTVlive. Wonder if WEWS lost more?
I don't even bother watching News 5 at 4, as it's nothing but a bunch of Scripps News produced stories replayed with the News 5 branding. Guess whoever anchored that time slot was cut during the last set of layoffs?

Katie Ussin has been anchoring the 4p news for awhile now (and also does the 5p with Delaun Dillard).

The 4p news does cover local stories, but it is filled out with Scripps stuff as well.

I would hazard to guess Scripps does that with all their other stations that have 4p newscasts as well.

Remember also, TV5 (and other Scripps stations) also simulcast The Debrief - Scripps News' signature nightly newscast of record - at 7p with Scripps News (seen in CLE/NEO on WVPX 23.4),

More new blood at WOIO CBS 19/WUAB CW 43:

Meredith Garofalo has been brought in as a meteorologist/science reporter.

She's a local (native of Parma, graduate of Trinity High), has the AMS seal, came over from NY1 in NYC (their version of Spectrum News), and cut her teeth in small markets before that.

For now, she's a Swiss Army knife, filling in and tag teaming at the weather desk to get her feet wet, plus doing some science stuff on the side.

How many people do they need over there? Good heavens!

Does Meredith's hire mean Kelly Dobeck moves to news anchoring full-time?
Dobeck has been anchor first, weather on the side for awhile now. She only does the weather every so often these days (probably just to keep the skills sharp as a fill-in).

Reserve Square - as of this moment - has 6 full time meteorologists (Jason Nicholas, Jeff Tanchak, Samantha Roberts, Jon Loufman, Erika Paige, and now Meredith Garofalo). and if you count Dobeck's occasional turns at the big wall, that makes 7 in the weather office.

I'd say they're well covered.
