Coming This Fall on Local TV?

With "Anderson Live" cancelled, maybe 43 should drop it and bring back "Family Feud." If not, drop "Anderson" and a second "Maury" to bring back some of the sitcom reruns on latenights back in late afternoons/early evenings. I think The Block would have a better 5-8pm comedy line-up than 55.

WUAB was set up in it's current formation so as to be purposley subordinate to 19's news/game show block from 3-8 p.m.

I was looking forward to watching Barney Miller on Antenna TV (channel 8.2) on Sunday evenings starting in September. Unfortunately, the morons are pre-empting both episodes in the 8-9 pm timeslot with Big Chuck and Little John skits. Does anyone know the reason for this? As far as I know, no other station in the area is showing Barney Miller. I contacted Fox 8 via email, but they have not responded.

Well, you should be happy to hear this--in January "Barney Miller" will be seen Tuesday nights from 9-11 p.m.

...or not - saw Big Chuck & Lil John shows in place of BM last Thursday on 8.2. Though I didn't watch the whole 2-hour block, so maybe they didn't pre-empt all 4 episodes?

I wonder what station could have the rights? - I don't think BM has been shown in local station syndication around here for like 20 years.

I like the Sunday prime-time airing of "The Big Chuck and Lil' John Show". I'll bet there are very few other markets that have had locally produced entertainment programming that lasted as long, and therefore have such a wealth of material from which to put together half hour retrospective programs from. I wonder how many 1/2 hours WJW-TV and the stars were able to make.

I bet a season's worth of all those brief intro segments BC & LJ do for the skits are knocked out in 1 day.

There's probably enough skits that can make 100 1/2 hour episodes...and that's not exaggerating.

Big Chuck has been quoted as saying over the years that they made over 2,000 skits, so 100 half hour episodes is probably on the conservative side. Some of the skits won't get shown on tv because of "political correctness" and some are so old they havent been converted to a usable format for airing (not to say they won't be in the future)

100 1/2 hour episodes would do well in a M-F late night time slot on Fox 8.

I think it was WEWS channel 5 that aired reruns of BM weeknights at 11:30 pm back in the 80's. I have not seen the show on any other local stations since then. If ch 5 still has the rights, I wonder why they don't air it?

I recall a few years ago WUAB (2005-2007) aired classic sitcoms from sony who holds the rights to Barney Miller. I know they first aired All in the family, the jeffersons. and BM as it was usually aired last. Then a few years ago they aired classic shows from CBS that included andy griffith, Laverne and Shirley, and Happy day's (which they still air). They aired these shows on either Saturday or Sunday afternoon between 3-6 PM. The funny then is antenna TV airs all in the family, and ME TV airs happy day's

"Happy Days" and "Laverne and Shirley" were from the same producers and they both originally aired on the ABC network in their prime-time runs.

What I was referring to was the fact that a WUAB had purchased the rights to air the show from CBS-paramount distribution and that Weigel broadcasting acquired the rights to air the show ME-TV which in Cleveland airs on WOIO 19.2.

What is funny is that despite then airing on 19.2, happy day's air's on Saturday afternoon before that 70's show. I am wondering how long did 43 buy cash syndication rights to shows like happy day's as it seems that they have been running at least one show a week since at least 2008 as weekend filler which is better than paid programs. Even though lately they pulled the old classics for basketball as just a few months ago I did see one happy day's show.

Antenna TV has kind of a "showcase" block from 9-11p M-F with different shows every night.

Mon and Wed - "Diff'rent Strokes" (Mrs Garrett and Willis are now the only ones left standing...whoda thunk it?)
Tue - "WKRP"
Thur - "Barney Miller"
Fri - "Good Times"

And of course, 8.2 still does their hour of "Big Chuck and Lil' John" on Sunday nights which preempts "Barney Miller", but is now a moot point with the Thursday night block.

Digital TV is giving all kinds of great classic shows new life on the various subchannels. There's networks like Antenna TV on 8.2 and Me TV on 19.2. This TV on 55.3 has a few classic shows mixed in with their movies, Bounce TV on 43.2 has "Fat Albert" and "Soul Train", which haven't been on TV in forever, and even WDLI-TV with TBN on channel 17 and Smile of a Child on 17.5 has brought back "Lassie" and "Davey and Goliath", which too have been MIA for many years on local airwaves.

There's plenty of good stuff out there.

The subchannels have gotten pretty good. Lots of better options nowadays. I still would like to see WBNX do something else along with the religious shows on 55-2 instead of a slide most of the time.

Speaking of programs, I think WUAB is going to have to fill a lot of holes for next fall. Jeremy Kyle's US talk show is not coming back for another season. Perhaps add some more sitcoms during the day is what 43 needs to do in my opinion.

I'd like to see something better on 3.2. That radar screen 24/7 is a waste IMO. I believe there is yet another "retro" network that is appearing on some NBC stations. Maybe we'll see it on 3.2 eventually.

Arsenio is a slam dunk for fall on WJW, which originally aired on the station from 1989 to '93 before moving to WOIO until his first show's cancellation in '94.

The rest is wait and see. I'd assume that most of the new offerings are coming locally this fall if not all.

You can also add Baggage as a show not carried in Cleveland.

That is correct as baggage does not get cleared in Cleveland.

With Arsenio, being from Cleveland this is a bonus for FOX 8 as they get a hometown guy who made it big as Drew Carry is on 19 (including the everywhere segments on 19 action news) and Patrica Heaton on the middle which airs on ch 5, it seems almost all of the major stations in town have a native son or daughter on network TV. With hot in Cleveland going into reruns in 2014 what are the odds it to will go to ch 8 as both it and Arsenio are distributed by CBS so if they can land Hot in Cleveland it will be a slam dunk for ch 8 and they really will be CLEVELAND'S OWN Fox 8

Fox 8's gonna have to fill a hole for fall. Ricki Lake's new show just got cancelled.

I wonder if they can plug Judge Joe Brown back at 3PM.
